Not sure Fink, can you remember a time when they mettle in the business of law? I mean take Rae Carouth for instance, guy knocks off his wife/girlfriend and he goes away for life, obviously they step in at that point.... They need to have something set up like the NFL, where if you do it a few times then a suspension happens, but no way is the union agreeing to a "first offense=suspension" policy.....I cant see it...
It's a shame if something doesn't get done, I mean especially in ST you heard about at least 5 or 6 players getting DUIs. Just silly. I mean they have PED testing and suspensions, why not for DUIs? I guess it's worse to take PEDs in the minds of MLB officials.
Pretty obvious to dude like this kid and/or others who are there for a look but have no real shot of making the opening day roster, dont really take it that seriously you know?
I wouldn't say they don't take it seriously. The problem is there's a lot of downtime during ST, so more of an increase of people getting into trouble. I mean it's not like only minor leaguers are getting popped for DUIs, major leaguers are too.
Dude this guy has been "hitting off a tee" for 2 years now....I wonder if he is done, like DONE done... At this point it is a valid question to ask...
Honestly, I wouldn't bet for or against whether he's done or not. I don't think anyone truly knows, him included. He's still young and hasn't had any major injuries to his legs, which his whole game is based off of, so I wouldn't be shocked to see him rebound. But man what an awful contract he has, even if he does rebound, 20 plus million a year for him, yuck. And the scary part is he's probably a platoon player at this point and if his legs ever go south on him he's Juan Pierre. Still can't believe the Sox were able to make that deal and get RDLR and Webster back. But the good thing is now neither Crawford or Gonzalez can blame their poor years or other excuses on Boston, after awhile you need to look in the mirror. EDIT: I still really want and wish we would find out if all those big moves (Lackey, Gonzalez, Crawford) were really Theo's moves or the front office trying to get fans excited about the club. As good of a GM Theo was he really sucked big time at signing FAs to long term deals.
Yeah definitely sad news about Ryan Westmoreland having to retire. It would have been a hell of a comeback story. Wishing the kid all the best, such a shame that he never was able to really play pro ball as by all accounts he was the real deal. Here's hoping he has a great post baseball life.
Doesn't seem like his achilles injury from last year (the same one that Bobby Valentine claimed was faking) is still bothering him.
Aceves was a main players in that brawl last night, got his *** kicked pretty good...... Suspensions have to be coming...
He got into a fight with Aceves. Nah I'm kidding, got hit in the head by a pitched ball when batting. Last I heard he should be cleared to play soon by MLB offices.
Like Tex this might be worse than first reported....I mean if these parts are hurting right now, they are going to be barking by June, nevermind Sept/Oct....
Jackie Bradley Jr. is killing it so far. I don't think he will make the team out of spring training but after the cut-off date I expect to see him up.
He'll only be up if he kills it in Triple A and/or if there's a spot in the OF open for him due to injury. It wouldn't make sense for him to come up and not get his regular week's worth of at bats. It's great he's having a great ST (so are Allen Webster and RDLR too) but let's not forget these guys still have some work to do in the minors first. They're close though. I do think JBJ's career path will be similar to Ellsbury where it looked like he was ready during the spring of 2007 but the Sox held be him in the minors (rightfully so) and once there was an injury they called him up in June and let him play.
Yup, the big question with Webster was control and command. Apparently the Red Sox worked with his pitching motion and where he sets up on the mound and its really making a big difference. Both RDLR and Webster have that ace/2nd potential, hopefully they continue to build on their solid springs when the season starts. Having a future rotation of Lester Buchholz, Webster, De La Rosa and either Doubront/Barnes/whoever doesn't look too bad on paper. The Sox haven't had 3 legit pitching prospects since Papelbon, Lester and Buchholz and those guys turned out ok.
I'm surprised he hasn't complained about Boston yet this week. Talk about someone who's completely soft skinned and really can't handle playing in a pressure filled location. While I still do feel bad for him but again, like Adrian Gonzalez, at some point you need to look in a mirror and blame the person looking back at you and not everyone else. I really don't think the blame jumped on Crawford as much as he says, maybe he should ask John Lackey or Josh Beckett if they think Crawford even got a third of the crap they got. I do wish Crawford and Gonzalez (and Beckett especially for 2007) the best though. They seemed like good guys who worked and tried hard, unfortunately they just didn't perform enough or how they should have. It just didn't work out in Boston for them for whatever reason and they just weren't good fits for the team or city.
Those 1st two years, I really thought we had something special. I hope he can rebound from this and become a great player. I wonder how much time he still spends in the cages hitting?
He is still young enough to bounce back from it though.....IDK I always had reservations about him however.... Fink why does Rizzo play for Italy?? Duel-Citizenship?
Again he's still young and TJ surgery isn't the end of the world but like Manny Banuelous, Kelly, if he has TJ surgery, will have missed 2 years of development. So while you can't write him off, you just have to lower expectations of him. I doubt he hits anymore though. He's definitely better off on the mound. I think if your last name ends in a vowel you can play for Italy. I actually don't know, as I don't really care much about the WBC, but it probably has something to do with if his parents or grandparents were born there.
Not if Lester, Buchholz, Dempster, Doubront and Lackey were healthy. I think Morales' role, if healthy, would have been emergency starter/long man/LHPer.
Good to see Tito having fun:
