I don't see Smith getting as much money as he thinks he's going to get.

I imagine Jake's situation is resolved one way or another today. He spent all day in medicals/physicals yesterday and now they'll either talk numbers or they won't. I expect STL's offer will end up not being much more than ours, if at all. I actually feel fairly confident Jake will be back.

Then I go after corners resigning sean Smith and either Munnerlyn, Cason or Lewis. You'd probably whack at elast one of Marshall or Patterson at that point, though I'd kind of like to keep Patterson around as my nickel for a year and see what happens.

Haha at first glance this reads like you're calling Barnes a liar.

Just reporting what Barnes said on his Twitter account...well I assume it's his Twitter account, sure looks like it.

Surprised at how cheap both Avril and Mendenhall went. Bit disappointed we didn't go after Mendenhall (1 yr deal, $2.5 M).

The Bucs could be a real possibility .If they have enough cap space to consider dealing for Revis then they would have enough cap to sign Smith as a compensation signing.

It wouldn't surprise me. Rumor has it the Dolphins have had all of their free agent targets on total lockdown, telling them to talk to no one, and deny everything.

I'd like to see him get a chance somewhere. I liked him coming out of the draft. I just hope they don't give up anything crazy like a 2nd.

Amendola is not Wes Welker. I don't care what the numbers show. Wes Welker is tough, he is durable and most of the time clutch.

Amendola can't stay on the field. He won't be able too stay in one piece playing Welker's spot.

I'm so on the fence regarding Sean Smith now. His price has got to be coming down to where it would make sense for us. I just wish he were able to tackle better. He's so soft at tackling it drives me nuts considering his size.

With Cassel on the street, Pats trading Mallett and then signing Cassel makes too much sense.

Replacing his numbers can occur by the tight ends, but who is replacing the tight ends numbers? The Pats are placing 110+ catches 1100+ yards and 16 games played on a guy who has played 12 games in the past 2 years, and doesnt have more than 700 yards in any year of his career so far....

Thats alot of pressure....plus not to mention Lloyd say what you want about him 950 yards last year...

thats what I fear bro....some foolish team will fork over a 1st for him like they did Cassell....also Kolb is about to hit the street too..

Kudos to Irish for not doing a deal with Flynn or Kolb. They had bust written all over them that was apparent from the start...

That's the Patriots' asking price. It makes sense. Ryan Mallett fell to the 3rd round on concerns that he couldn't keep his nose clean (literally). He's been with the Patriots two years and he's not had a lick of trouble there. He hasn't said a word to the press that ever got him in trouble. All he's done is show up to work, do all kinds of charity stuff, tweet about family, etc. If he was the character everyone feared, being placed in a situation where you expected to be a starter in the NFL but then all the sudden you're just the backup and you have no hope of actually earning a starting job, that's a difficult situation to be placed in if you have the kind of temperament everyone thought he had. But he's handled it fine.

So that overhang that depressed him into the 3rd round should be lifted. On the other hand, he hasn't performed all that well in the preseason. That would have helped the Patriots' case for selling him off for a 2nd. They should at least recover the 3rd they spent on him, which would mean overall they got 2 years of service out of him without losing any value on the asset.

I personally think they could sell Mallett off and then take on their new Ryan Mallett, which would be Peter Lalich.

IMO, the ONLY thing that will hold back Amendola in New England and prevent him from duplicating Welker's success is his lack of durability.

If they wanted him bad enough they could have gone after him the first 2 days. They might entertain the thought at a price that's right for them, but I think much of that was media speculation and not something that came out of NE.

I disagree. IMO, he is a more injured version of Hartline and has none of the explosiveness of Welker, and Welker wasn't explosive.

The thing that's upsetting about a potential Brandon Gibson signing would be the thought that his money could've been used to try and keep Reggie Bush, who wanted to stay in Miami.

Welker I think is clearly the better player, and much more durable. Plus, he was Brady's friend, outlet and they had a great on field chemistry. That is all lost.

Some of the hits Welker takes will not be hits Amendola can take. They will either need to limit him more then Welker going over the middle or risk injury. I hope this pisses off Brady a little bit and gets him off his game. After he took a paycut to help afford Welker, "The Master" still let him walk.

I think a Brandon Gibson signing would leave everyone scratching their heads, I would expect a Bess cut if that were indeed to happen.

I hope not. He would be absolutely perfect here as a 3rd safety/slot corner. He's arguably the best in the NFL in defending the slot receiver.

For some reason I keep visualizing Ireland watching the sick one-handed grab Gibson made against us last year saying to himself, "Holy Moley, a playmaker!! I need this guy on our roster!!" and has been obsessed ever since. I know it's preposterous, but again, nothing that guy does surprises me (besides signing Ellerbe. Didn't see that coming)

Odrick could be trade bait, but we also need 3 DTs for rotation, and Soliai is in the last year of his deal.
