Man the Chiefs and Seahawks are cleaning up in free agency and we haven't done too bad either In fact we were mentioned as big winners yesterday which satisfied me. I also want to say that I must give kuddos to Jeff Ireland and its not easy eating humble pie . is it safe to say we could sign 4 more players and draft mostly defense ?
What is being factored into this number? Are you factoring in the salary for Dansby and Burnett that we're carrying until June? Are you factoring in the amount set aside to sign draft picks? If so, only one set of those numbers needs to be factored in as the salary we're currently carrying for Dansby and Burnett will cover our rookie signings.
Antoine Cason would be nice and now is the time to get a quality CB on the cheap. If Smith only got $6mil I don't think Cason would want too much. If not, I would like to see them bring in Antoine Winfield for a look see. He would be a good pick up and prob pretty cheap. That and just get the Keller and Long deals done! If Long doesn't come back then full steam on Winston
I sort of like Adam Jones, he was a turd earlier in his career but has developed into a fine Cb albeit in football Siberia Cinci.
I am taking reports that we have $20-22 in cap space. I am subtracting $11 mil for draftees, practice squad, and season injury replacements. And you are left with $10-$12 mil in cap space. He can structure that to dish out $60 mil.
$6-7million for draftees is the correct number = $17 or 16 million in cap space based on your calculation and my correction.
Cb's can be playmakers, the real issue with them is they are to easily neutralized by not throwing the ball to the man they are covering. FS or SS are better suited to the role b/c you can't avoid them.
Newman and Jones are still available. Either would be a fine #2 CB, with Marshall in the slot. Wait until the draft. See how it goes. If you get Banks dropping to you in the 2nd, you grab him. Cut Patterson, throw Banks #2 while moving Jones to #1, Marshall to the slot. It'll be a tough growing up period but eventually I think they've got themselves the beginning to a good secondary. Keep eye out for FA #1 CB, or try to draft a falling stud cb the next year.
28 years old, coming off an injury, wants a ton of cash, AND we have to give up a first, to a division rival? Assuming of course the Jet's would even trade within the division? That's a bad joke. Not happening.
The Dolphins were apparently interested but the Jets wouldn't hear it. Not sure WHERE I saw that, I'll try to find it.
I'd be fine with signing Adam Jones, drafting Banks or Poyer, and letting the two of them compete with Marshall, Patterson and Carroll in camp.
Of course they wouldn't. The Jets would have to be crazy to trade an All Pro player in his prime to a division rival.
Banks is going to be an interesting player to watch on draft day. I wonder how far Bank's 4.6 will push him back? Would love to have him at 2a if possible.
Pac Man was pretty much the perfect CB for what Croyle wants to run (assuming it's similar to the zone coverages in Cinci) so I'm a huge fan of bringing him in.
