Man, it was so frustrating watching this guy shred our defense every time we played those clowns. Hope he can return the favor this season ala Pennington.
Credit were it is due, to me this is sort of an acknowledgement that developing Te's is just a problem for us atm. Now with Wallace and Keller, to me, Ireland has plug the 2 positions where he just has not had a knack for drafting. Wr Te Our other positions of need are in his wheelhouse, Cb (VD and SS were good Cb's) OL (passable starters, and Pouncey) DE specialist, he did go the extra mile to land Cam Wake. This gives me a better confidence heading into 2013.
Another tight end who'd complement Keller very well is Michael Williams, Alabama. He's like a Howard Cross throwback. He blocks inline like an extra tackle but can get out and catch passes in the short to intermediate zones. He made an nice TD catch in the Senior Bowl with TJ McDonald in his hip pocket. Also, Dion Sims, Michigan St, is a pretty good inline Y type of TE, and has nice big soft hands and can work the same zones as Williams. He's not really fast but he can get into the seam a little sometimes. He'd also complement Keller very well.
One year deal...nice. Don't see them going TE at #12 now (and it was unlikely anyway), but can see them picking one in the 2nd or 3rd round to learn behind Keller. And, of course, still hoping that Egnew comes good, have to give him another year at least before declaring a definite bust.

Man... ****in awesome. I'm stoked. This really opens up the rest of our spending money and picks. ****in nice one, Snaps.
I like Dion Sims. He's a good blocker and while not the smoothest athlete, he still moves pretty well, can catch the ball and is tough to bring down after the catch. I think he'd be a great mid-round complement to Keller and Egnew.
Me too, just prefer Williams a little more, mainly because of the way he blocks inline, while still having good hands when you need to throw to him. Either would complement Keller and Egnew quite well though.
That's why I didn't want to sign him, because I thought we wouldn't go tight end early if we did,but considering its a one year deal, I'm hopin Eifert is still in play.
GB carries 4 TE's typically. Dont be surprised if we're in on Ertz or Escobar. I still wouldnt rule out Eifert in round 1 either....
While I agree, I still don't discount the idea of Eifert. I am banging for Austin in the first, but it could be a cb or de.
I think he is/was only in play if we trade down. I think we most likely go DE or Austin at #12. I think Vacarro is a less likely possibility there as well. I'd put TE in after that in terms of odds.
Or OT or DT or OG We now have flexibility, if they sign Gibson or Wr corps looks pretty good actually, and we do need a blocking Te CC9 and Keller could make for some great two Te sets
Safe to say Dawn Aponte deserves the finest of mustache rides for setting all these contracts up so efficiently.
Ertz cannot block any better than Keller. IMO, it brings in play a more traditional inline Y, like Kelce could do, or where Sims or Williams usually do play quite well.
Williams isn't a great receiver but he can work the short zones and has good hands, and no TE muscles and mauls as an inline blocker like he does.
I must be one of the few, but I honestly dont want Eifert. I am a big Notre Dame fan, watch pretty much every game. He has looked pretty good for Notre Dame, but I just dont know that he's going to have that success in the NFL. He used his size so well, but I dont know that he will have that luxory in the NFL with the type of athletes that are going to be against him. He doesn't have great speed, not really a good blocker. I know that he has been one of the big names to this date, I wouldn't want him at #12.
Wow, Ireland's offseason plan seems to be going as planned or close to it. Replacing Dansby & Burnett; not having to sign Keller or Clemons for more than a year. Wallace obviously.
http://blogs.thescore.com/nfl/2013/...s-tyler-eifert-is-really-a-big-slot-receiver/ This article reflects my feelings on him pretty well.
Well, whatever mojo Jeff Ireland has, I hope it continues through draft day. And I hope Ryan Tannehill has Wallace, Hartline, Bess, Matthews, Keller, Clay, and Egnew throwing in the offseason.
Omar Kelly ✔@OmarKelly RT @ClaytonESPN: Last year's injury guided Dustin Keller to just sign a 1-yr, $4.25 million deal with the Dolphins.Jets couldn't afford him. Collapse
Nice signing. I like that it's a one year deal, so we aren't stuck with his money if his injury isn't totally healed and he craps out. Now if we would just sign a CB and an OT, I would be totally satisfied.
I love Eifert's ability to go up and get the ball. It's not hard to imagine him catching many TDs in that fashion. My only real beef with him and why I have him as a lesser consideration at #12 is that I don't think he accelerates out of his breaks as well as some of the premier TEs in the league. I think that's what separates him from being a good TE, like a Pitta or Owen Daniels, versus being a great TE (best receiver on your team type) like a Gronk or Graham.
This is a pretty nice signing. Hopefully he is well again after this injury ridden season. And yes I hope he's like Pennington. Cause he is a former Jet, he has to do this big for him to win me over. But otherwise with all these receiver and LB pick ups. I'am now convinced we are going to address the OL/pass rush/secondary heavily in the draft. I'm hoping for Chance Warmack in the 12th slot. And pick up Barrett Jones with our first second. Xavier Rhodes with the second 2nd rounder. And pick up Margus Hunt with the 3rd rounder.
