This appears to be a nice one year stop gap signing to fill the need at TE. I am still hoping that Ireland will draft one of the top TE's coming out of college in the first or second round. My first choice would be Eifert, but the Dolphins will have to draft him in the first round to get him. That is unlikely with the signing of Kellar, so Erth or Escobar would be a good option in the second round.
That's not true. I don't think there is a single WR in this draft who should be taken in the first round. Yet, I would have no problem with the Dolphins drafting Eifert in the first round. I would prefer they trade down in the first round to draft Eifert and also pick up additional picks, but if they take him with the 12th pick, it certainly wouldn't upset me.

I hope this means we will draft a TE of the future and not that we will be relying on Eggnew to fulfill his potential.
Sweet! Wonder why its only for one year though? Probably means still a plan to draft someone at TE early this year? Or maybe they're hoping Egnew suddenly gets it this year? Or is it Keller's injury problem from last year maybe?
Hmm if we draft a TE, this means we will be carrying 4 TE(5 if you count Mastroud)s going into Traning Camp. I cant see that as realistic scenario, one of them would be cut or traded. and its not going to be Keller or the draftee. So my money is on Egnew or Clay.
IMO signing Keller to a one year contract gives the Dolphins several options. First of all it puts all the pressure on Keller to come back and prove himself after his injury year if he wants to continue playing with decent money after this year. It takes some of the pressure off of Egnew to give him more time to develop and prove himself. It removes the necessity of drafting a TE early unless one they highly covet is there. It gives Tannehill another weapon who is more of a threat than Fasano was. It certainly alleviates some of the stress of losing Fasano who was our #1 TE. Everything I had read indicates the main holdup in signing Keller was his desire to get a multi-year contract, but Ireland held his ground and got what he wanted so that kudos to Ireland.
IIRC GB carried 5 TEs in Philbin's last year there. Not just going into camp, but on the regular season roster. Having 4 or 5 TEs on the camp roster is pretty standard.
This is good on two levels. Gives us the best offensive TE we.have had since Bob, Earl and.Don were the QB, and it takes another weapon away from the little green airplanes. How.bad does.it suck to be a Jest fan right now? Oh, who cares, they are the ****ing Jests!
that's an excellent #... the low end of where I was projecting. That's what a million more than we were paying Fasucko?
Man, I am the only one not thrilled with this signing at all. I guess if it's a small and short contract it's ok, but definitely not thrilled.
I think this is an absolute brilliant signing. If he has injury issues or doesn't translate well in this offense, which I don't see happening, then you're not on the hook for him in 2014. If he lights it up or is successful, which is what I envision, then you can extend him mid-late season or prior to him hitting the open market. Heck, you could even tag him if he's that critical to the offense.
He was offensive end. I don't think they even called them wide receivers in Hutson's day. I was a big fan of Dandy Don Meredith but alas he never donned the aqua and orange.
There's little downside to this signing. It gives Miami almost too much flexibility especially in the way of Michael Egnew. This guy put up some pretty good numbers with Mark Sanchez. A QB who would rank among the bottom 5 QBs on anyone's list.
Remember this guy had Sanchez passing to him, dont blame him for too much. If Tannehill tightens up he has alot of targets to hit now.
Keller used to gash our defense when he was a Jet. Just to get him away from them, is enough for me to like it, even if he were inactive all season, which he won't be. I'm guessing after the season he has, Jeff will wish he'd locked him up for 2-3 more seasons.
yeah, Keller is only 28. I guess more and more guys under 30 are getting one year deals these days... 28 is the new 30?
What they don't mention is that it's because he was less relied on that he achieved those numbers. All those numbers are far above his mediocre prior years. Luckily it's just a 1 year deal. By the way...where are all the haters who emphatically state that no one wants to sign in Miami? ;p
If we can sign Long or Eric Winston, I really like our starting 11 on offense. Big play down the field potential in Wallace and Keller, plus reliable possession guys in Bess and Hartline. I'm also excited about Lamar Miller, I thought he ran the ball better than Reggie at times last year. Add all that to the fact that Miami's finally following the read option trend with their 4.5 40 time QB, the offense has the potential to be the most dynamic it's been in over a decade.
