You've made their dog famous. Heck I didn't even know they had a dog, let alone the breed, until I saw CharlieDoodle77 on twitter. Now you will need to maintain this alter ego or whatever it is, unless Jake signs with another team.

    Latest on Jake Long Status

According to USA Today - Mike Garafolo

Free-agent offensive tackle Jake Long was trying to get $10 million a season in free agency, but recent injuries and declining performance have kept him from reaching that number. Long has since come down on his contract demands.

I would be surprised if he signs a multi year deal at this point with anyone.

I would be absolutely dumbfounded if he signs a 1 year contract. In fact, ill just say theres less then a 1% chance of that happening.

Why? If he believes in his health, the smartest thing for him to do is sign a 1 year contract.

If he's down to a one year "prove it" type of deal then I think Miami definitely has the inside edge on that. System he knows, players he knows, town he knows, coaches he knows, etc.

Capitalism is a ***** Jake. We'd be happy to have you back on an incentive-laden deal if you're up for it though. Stay on the field and perform well and you'll get close to that number.

Could it really be possible Miami is looking at getting Long back for 7ish a year? Or am I being hopelessly optimistic?

I could see it. If he isn't getting the long term deal he wants, then sign a 1 year incentive laden contract to try and prove you are still among the best, then cash in.

It's high risk, high reward. If he plays crappy or gets hurt again he may never get a long term deal or may fall out of the league.

More realistic is $8 million a year. At that point he keeps his pride as it's the most lucrative deal signed by any offensive tackle this free agency. It may not be what the Browns gave Joe Thomas but you could win him on that by noting that the guys who gave it to him have been fired and nobody since has repeated that mistake.

Tough going here...I'm really torn on whether to re-sign him or not...I'd love to see the Jake of two years ago, and would be happy to pay for that, but will we get that guy ?? Somehow, I suspect he's not coming back here...just a gut feeling...we'll see.

That last sentence maybe the reason he WON'T sign a 1yr deal. He may want a financially secure contract.

Question I still have, despite the fact that when healthy, he's elite, is he really a good fit for what Philbin is looking for ?? Somehow ZBS just doesn't seem to be his strength??

So, if Jake did come back, what do we do with J Martin? Martin looked better playing LT than RT. Do we think with an offseason of conditioning that Martin would be better back at RT? if you sign Jake to 8+ million a year, he can't play RT can he? Just feels like if we sign Jake, we now have two square pegs for two round holes. Jake playing LT in the zone blocking scheme and JM playing RT where he doesn't belong.

Jake at LT and Jon at RT still gives you a comparative advantage over Jon at LT and Player X at RT IMO. Not to mention the fact that if Jake goes down you're gonna be damn happy to have Jon to move over.

Even though I do have faith that Martin will improve over last year, if he doesn't improve enough, he does less damage at RT than at LT. It is much easier for a quarterback to step up from his front side than his back side.

I heard Jake himself say recently that he played in a zone blocking scheme at Michigan. His success in that scheme was what got him taken 1st overall. I'm thinking if he returns that a 2nd year in the scheme blocking for better zone runners, and he'll be just fine if he stays healthy.

He's good enough of a player that he can play well in almost any scheme. I think he's probably better in a power scheme, but it isn't anything prohibitive.
