OmarKelly If Dustin Keller can use the Dolphins to prove he's healthy, durable and still dynamic he could double his salary in 2014. Gamble on self.
Surprised to read he turned down a multi-year deal that paid roughly the same per year as the 1 year deal.

Sure, that's why I said I am the only one. It's not that i don't like him. I do and I also mentioned if it's a smaller and shorter contract, it's cool, which it is. So, I'm ok with it and as Mr C mentioned, I sure do remember him torching us on number of occasions. It would be nice to give the NJ Jerks back some of their own medicine. I would hope he can be really good again. A part of me wishes Clay can step up and fill a similar role, but he's not yet proven he can do so, though I think he has potential. I'm cool with it. I just hope it doesn't prevent them from taking one of the top 3 TEs in this draft. I really want Eifert, but I'd be cool with Escobar. JMO.
ME -----> <---- Peter Stitches. Damn, sure feels DAMN good to use my own Smiley again. Where's that Ric Flair one again......
I like this...a LOT. Keller is going to be heavily motivated. He knows a good year will mean a payday.
As Pope of the Church of Philbin, I'm letting people know we are having an open house soon. Sooooo, if any of you are ready to be believers, our doors are open. A-Joe-men.
Really? I don't think he's even close... In fact, Randy McMicheal>>Troy Drayton Dustin Keller>>>> Randy McMicheal. This dude is an athletic BEAST when healthy. He has lots to prove, kind've a proving year, and I think he's able to put up Gronkowski type numbers if presented the chances.
Keller is also a much better mentor for Egnew, in terms of them breing similar styles of TE. Keller has 4.5's speed, like Egnew, and is a pass ctacher who splits out. He can show Eggnew how it's done, on a daily basis.

Not trying to rag on you, but like 5 threads down. http://www.thephins.com/forums/showthread.php?75472-Merged-Confirmed-Dustin-Keller-signed
Yeah, I kind of pulled the trigger a little early on that. I quickly scanned the forum and didn't catch it, so I posted thinking it was "breaking". Turns out I was way late on this. No biggie, I generally do not make posts like this....
Keller's highly overrated by some I see. Outside of last year Keller's catch % has been abysmal for his career. The year he got 815 yards........he was targeted as much as Hartline was this past year (7th in thrown at, 53rd in catch percentage). A fart in the wind blocks better then he does........and for a slot TE..his metrics out of that position rates him in the bottom third of TE's...he even finished dead last one year. Hence 1 year deal.
I was not high on picking this guy up, but a 1 year deal is as good as it gets in my mind, because 1) it is insurance going into the draft, 2) he may pan out quite well, 3) INSURANCE going into the draft. Having that type of flexibility going into a draft affords you the ability to take BPA without roster repercussions. It is like having quite a bit of money and not having to worry about whether or not you can afford the great suit, great watch, w/e it may be.
In hindsight, I'd rather have a guy who has been productive (Keller) for 1/4.25 than a guy with potential that hasn't proven anything (Cook) for 7/35. Good job by Ireland for not overpaying at the position or caving in to a multiyear contract.
The more I think about this the more I like this signing. First, the Jets haven't had a very good offensive attack in Keller's time there. Second, the Jets QB situation hasn't been great - esp. their current fraud (who is massively over-rated and just not a very good QB imo). Third, with Wallace - there should be more opportunities underneath for Keller. Fourth, the flip-side of #1 - Philbin's offense will be much better for Keller. I would have liked to have him for more than just one year. I can see him having a really good year and then going elsewhere. But, if we can develop the other guys under him and get a TE in rounds 2-4 this year or another high up next year - that might work. I should add, the completion percentage bothered me a bit as well. But, it was not a high completion offense anyway. Would like to see if he has a lot of drops relative to other TEs.
