Called that one when the reports first started going around. Green Bay doesn't tag all willy nilly. If they weren't going to tag Flynn...they certainly aren't going to tie that much money into Jennings.

Really hoping Jennings ends up a Dolphin. Not only will his presence immediately upgrade our WR corps, I think he can help mentor the younger receivers too.

Jared Cook is another one who was thought to be franchised but will not be.

It looks like none of the tight ends on the market will end up getting the franchise tag. Unless I missed something Dustin Keller, Brandon Myers, Martellus Bennett, Fred Davis and Cook will all hit free agency.

Lol why would he do that? So we can cut him 2 yrs into his 5 yr contract? Not saying he definitely wouldn't or that younger guys can't watch and learn but the greatest competition in the league is for roster spots and cash, not wins and losses.

Its one of the lesser talked about aspects of the game, what veteran wants to teach a younger cheaper player how to steal their job away?

Who else would you take at 12 that would make the impact on our offense that Patterson would?

This is ridiculous, sure there are some athletes out there that might fit this, but there are more out there, that want to be known as a team player and a role model. Mariano Rivera has been teaching his cutter to almost every rookie invited to spring training for the last 14 years, no one has yet to take his job.

I was introducing an alternative view point not making an accusation. But what Yankee closer has learned to throw like Rivera? I think it's far from ridiculous to say that NFL vets are less than enthused about teaching younger players how to make them more expendable than they already are.

I could name 12, but I'll keep it football themed for you, Cameron Wake, Jason Taylor, Brian Urlacher, eventually someone's got to take over, might as well teach them your moves. If you still have it, you'll find some where to play.

I like the idea of Jennings coming here, but geez, if he's really expecting the money the reports say he is, then I say no thanks... Even tho there are some questions about Wallace, I'd pay him $11m plus before I'd pay Jennings that much...

Now, if he can be signed for somewhere in the $6-$8m range, that's fairly acceptable and then I'd take him over Wallace, even tho Wallace's physical attributes are off the chart....

But as you said...let the fun begin....

I believe after Bowe's deal paying him an annual salary of 10 million was learned, it brought Jennings back to earth. There is no way that he can command 10 million plus in FA. This is the reason I believe we sign him because A. He will cost around 4 million year less then Wallace. B. He will groom the 2 (yes 2) WR that we draft in our first 5 picks. That extra 4 million can be used to address another position of need.

    Why?

Greg Jennings is a fit for the offense, as he has played in it and has been very productive in this scheme. He can run every route on the route tree with precision. He doesn't sulk and lose focus when he doesn't get what he wants or isn't involved in the offense.

Mike Wallace is a poor fit for the offense. He runs only 2 or 3 routes well. He's not a precise route runner, and that will throw the timing aspect of the offense off. He doesn't fight for the ball when it is up for grabs. He doesn't play a physical style. He only caught 19% of the deep passes thrown to him this past season. He admitted that he loses focus when he's not involved in the passing offense.

Yet, somehow, Wallace should get $11+ million and Greg Jennings should only get $8-9?

    Mike Wallace, new hotness.

Right, wrong or indifferent...Wallace's speed separates him from Jennings, imo. I am not sure that Wallace is a perfect fit here either, but Jennings isn't much of a burner and has some injury issues, albeit much better route runner and system knowledge, as you noted... To me, that makes a difference...

Not to worry, my fantasy-football-aqua-colored glasses has us not being able to get Wallace anyway... Someone will pay more for that speed, despite his deficiencies...

Signing Jennings to a 5yr contract would be deplorable. 2 yrs $19M is my guess on what he ends up getting.
