Brent Grimes would be great. High Risk, High Reward. Will he be the same player post-achilles injury? Would certainly be a risk worth taking, because if healthy he would be a huge upgrade for us.

We should cut Carpenter today and use some of that towards Dumervil.

Saw that, and I'm not happy about it. I'm not scared like I would have been 3 years ago, or if it were Reed, but I do hate it.

Rotoworld said the moves were aimless?

They can eff themselves in the goat *** right now.

How is it aimless to fill our WR corp and save money and get younger at the LB position?

I seriously loathe agenda based reporting.

I would of taken Ogletree in the draft and a slot wr in the 2nd or 3rd round over Wheeler and Gibson but that's just me so I can see how people think its aimless. I just feel like young corners seem to struggle so our production out of that position if we draft it is not going to be as great if we took some fa vet corners.

We choose to get young at lb over filling massive holes in our secondary this is why hes calling it aimless. We had good production from our lbs last year so the upgrade is not going to be that big of a difference. Also this whole free agency hinges on resigning Jake Long imo losing on him would be a huge loss.

We had the number 1 red zone defense I think people don't understand this we did a pretty radical change by replacing 2 of our lbs in 1 off-season.

Do you understand what the word "aimless" means? Because you are not describing something that is aimless, you are describing a different plan.

Also, not for nothing, but since when does it make sense to fill all your holes in FA? In fact, that is widely accepted to be a stupid plan.

In FA, you find the players that fit your goals for as best a price as you can get. You don't settle and you don't restock.

If your going to take the word aimless to its literal sense then yes no signing in nfl history has been aimless this is not what the guy writing the article is trying to get across though

    Horse****.

    Aimless has one definition.

There can be plenty of moves made in the history of the NFL that were aimless. Like the most moves Al Davis made the years leading up to his death. Or Wanny drafts. Or the Pats allowing Welker to leave.

Just because you don't like a move doesn't mean its aimless or you get to redefine what the word means.

You still haven't explained why the fack, we should fill our holes in FA before we make any other FA moves. Please explain that, cause it is widely accepted to be the stupidest strategy in FA there is.

you're redefining the word by using Al Davis as an example just because you didn't believe in his vision does not mean he didn't have a purpose when he did things

Also the dolphins already filled 2 huge needs in FA at wr and te so now these moves are stupid because they were needs. I don't understand your argument resigning Clemons at safety was also a huge need so thats 3 positions filled during FA. I guess the dolphins front office is stupid we only signed 2 players not at need which in turn became a need after we cut our 2 lbs.

Can't the same thing be said about Ireland/Philbin? Just because you don't agree with them signing Ellerbe and Wheeler and didn't see it as necessary maybe you're just not seeing their vision and therefor not making their signings aimless? It works both ways

I see. You've no interest in arguing this rationally.

First you tell me, its "aimless" because you would have taken Ogeltree in a draft that hasn't happened yet.
Then you tell me, its aimless because we should have grabbed CBs before LBs.
Then you tell me, its aimless because there's this hidden meaning to the word aimless that you and Rotoworld know.
Then you tell me, I'm changing the definition of the word because I'm applying it to a guy how was widely considered to be losing his mind and did things for no reason.

Dear god man. Do you see how flat out ridiculous you're being all to continue your Ireland hate? That's not even factoring in how you refuse to explain why you believe we should fill all our holes in FA before we make any other moves in FA.

I didn't write the article and I didn't take it in the literal sense I have no issue with the dolphins off-season so far but I was trying to explain to Fin what the guy was trying to get across.

I wouldn't agree with being aimless, just a different strategy than we had thought would play out in FA.

We went in with holes in cb and wr and ol. It seems the front office went into FA with a plan to upgrade the talent level at a position of strength- LB.

Since as a team the dolphins need a talent influx almost everywhere, wouldn't it be better to upgrade in FA if the talent I there, then wait for bargains that may appear, and then go into the draft?

Would anyone mind telling me how Nolan Carroll looked last year according to PFF? I'd also like to know what game they had him rated highest in coverage.

May as well ask this here instead of making a thread.

We have gone to an offense I believe, suits and meshs with our defense. I believe we are moving to a philosophy of....scoring some points...and putting teams in a position to have to try and keep up. By doing so...we have gone after fast, turn over creating LBs. Pass rushing inside LBS that are good, are very hard to find, and we went after them. I dont believe you are going to need CB's that can cover a reciever for a long time, more Cb's that can play zone well.

    Aimless?

Miami signed the #1 pass rushing inside linebacker and the #2 pass rushing 4-3 outside linebacker in the NFL according to PFF's PRP rating. They replaced the #26 pass rushing ILB and #12 pass rushing 4-3 OLB with these two players. It is obvious that their moves weren't aimless. They wanted to improve their pass rush from the linebacker position.

See, there are two keys to playing defense in football today. First, you have to be able to rush the passer not just from your defensive line, but from all sorts of angles as well. Second, you have to be able to take away the space that the offense is trying to create. While they may not be as accomplished in man to man coverage as Burnett and Dansby, both Ellerbe and Wheeler are faster linebackers and are more equipped to quickly close the space in the flat zones underneath the downfield coverage from the secondary.

This is a schematic drawing of quarters coverage, which is what I'm anticipating Miami will be playing a lot of this year. As you can see, the linebackers have to be able to cover some space.

    http://blogs.thescore.com/nfl/2012/01/12/the-tape-never-lies-analyzing-the-quarters-coverage/

    Good article on the coverage.

As I said many times before FA, the two top priorities for the team were improving the passing game and improving the pass rush. Many dismissed the pass rush and said it's going to be CBs. They simply don't have the impact of the other positions. And since it's becoming more obvious that we're going to more zone, it makes even less sense to pick a CB high. Even now you keep seeing posts about how we need to take Rhodes? I love him as a prospect but he's a press CB. In fact, he may have played more press than I've ever seen from a college CB. He simply doesn't fit what we want to do. The pick at #12 will most likely be a pass rusher or Austin. If we do go secondary, there's a lesser chance that they go with Vacarro.

His overall rating was -2.1 and tied for 67th overall with Tracy Porter. Ahead of Cary Williams, DeAngelo Hall and Derek Cox, as well as Sean Smith and Vontae Davis. The overall combines run defense, coverage, pass rush and penalty propensity. His coverage rating was 0.4 and tied for 54th. He allowed 56.9% comp pct and 87.6 passer rating. His best games were @CIN, @NYJ, and @IND. His best coverage games were @CIN, @IND, and @SF.

I think the pass rushing angle with respect to the new linebackers is being overstated a bit.
