A trade down for Cooper would not be all that surprising. Miami seems content to let: - CB - RDE - SLB - LG - RB Go into their draft plans. RB I'm guessing is a third round need. SLB may also be a third round need. There hasn't been a year outside of arguably 2010 that Miami has gone with a pick that wasn't a major need. Cinncy never really spent all that much on outside LB so I doubt that's the first rounder. Another thing to note: Miami tends to attack positions they don't want to draft in FA, at least not highly. That leaves CB, RDE, and LG. A guard that high would be surprising. In the second or third it wouldn't be unlikely. So CB or DE.
If Davone Bess is in trouble, I think that's pretty clearly telegraphing that they aren't done with pass-catchers. None of the receivers on the roster have noteworthy experience or production playing the slot, and by signing/re-signing three guys I think you've made your intentions to play 11 personnel(or other formations with a slot player) pretty heavily known. You're almost certainly going to see wide receiver or tight end in the first couple selections, I think.
Also telling was the Dolphin's interest in Thomas Howard. Howard is a WLB through and through, so Wheeler may in fact be the SLB. That leaves a spot open there.
I think at 12, it needs to pass rush or td playmaker. Zeke Ansah, Bjoern Werner, Dion Jordan, Jarvis Jones, Tavon Austin, Cordarrelle Patterson, and maybe Tyler Eifert take precedence to trying to fill a need.
I want Olgetree still even with our 2 new lbs but its most likely a pipe dream I can see guard being drafted
It's all a bit confusing at this point. One of the local beat writers said of the Ellerbe signing that sources told him you shouldn't necessarily pencil him in as the MLB, which makes the whole thing a bit up in the air. You can make arguments for a lot of things, I think. Misi at MLB, Wheeler/Ellerbe at either OLB position. Howard could be a starter, he could an attempt to defend against the Patriots personnel package/formation issues.
The fact that we had dinner with Kiko Alonso on Wednesday night makes me think NOTHING is off the table. At almost any position.
On another note were Tannehill and Pouncey the guys Miami had the most interest in a couple years ago?
Hughes couldn't have been drafted to a worse team for him personally, if immediate impact was how we're to judge him. Being stuck behind Mathis and Freeney really limited his chances to get on the field. He played a lot more in '12 and this coming season with Freeney gone, we'll get to finally see how good he can be. Anyway, it would be shortsighted to call Hughes a bust at this point, given the situation he was in.
IMO, Alonso is heavily in play for Miami in like the 3rd. Best spots for Ellerbe and Wheeler are the OLB spots, and Kiko would fit nicely between them. JMO, although I could be wrong.
That's very possible. Alonso would be the third rounder, along with a RB. A WR, a DE, and a CB for the other three picks.
Richie turns 30 this year. That's not old for a guard. Most seem to think Cooper would fit Miami better than Warmack anyway.
I think this is basically it. The Dolphins are in a position where they could draft guys they expect to replace players who are still under contract.
Hey listen, point taken except that if someone doesn't like a player at least have the stones to say why. And it wasn't like he was discussing a late round FA type. He called the Thorpe Award winner and probably the biggest playmaker in the secondary absolutely atrocious, which even to the most inadequate of eyes would be a patent lie. You don't like him, then fine. But don't just rip someone baselessly. Hell, we all disagree on prospects but is it too much to ask for a little perspective? And if the move towards more zone coverage is true, then Banks is actually a great fit. Not at 12 because the knee injury has hurt him during this stage of the evaluation process, but certainly in round two.
Preaching to the choir, I've been lobbying for K.Allen and Banks since late December. And with Keenan all but eliminated....I'd be very ecstatic with Banks. He makes plays, and that is the type of CB I think we need.
I might not know anymore about the draft than when I started reading this...but I love the tension involved .........
Nope. Beer is strictly off my diet, at least for a couple more weeks....... but I will certainly make up for lost time when I can Hope all is good my friend. How is your daughter doing?
Three things: 1. Please back up your statement with facts or video evidence if youre going to comment on a player. By doing this you state a more logical opinion and make a better case for your opinion 2. Please do not call people's opinions stupid. Just report it and say why. That way I dont have to read through 6 pages of back and forth. 3. If you call out the staff instead of reporting it, expect repercussions. Cant read through every post. Some of us have work today (yes even on saturdays) or families or god-forbid have lives and spend the occasional few hours away from the board. Stay on topic. Do it in a friendly manner or at least not a confrontational one. That is all. Thanks.
Life is good.No complaints. Still a work in progress with my little one(15 now),but things are going well. Thanks for asking. Think I have more worries with her gender and the boys than her upcoming surgeries. Always something to worry about I suppose, lol.
http://www.miamiherald.com/2013/03/17/3290436_p2/dan-le-batard-it-is-hard-to-feel.html Sweet vindication. But he compares the dolphins to the marlins so the published writer for the Miami herald must be wrong. Posters on thephins forum make it so. :sings: it's a beautiful morning...
Le Batard has been wrong more times than wile e coyote is trying to catch the roadrunner. I think your morning just got cloudy!
LeBatard is one of the best writers in the country. If you're looking to dog his reputation, you done ****ed up.
Wow, there is 10 minutes of my life I'll never get back. "They got rid of guys and signed new guys. This team is still most likely ****." Insightful and enlightening. Someone should give him the Pullitzer. Miami filled one hole in FA. They did not go on an FA spree. The rest of the signings have similar financial impact to the outgoing personnel. This is not desperation - maybe Wallace - but one man's desperation is another man's conviction.
Kinda awesome how the same people who backed Ireland for failing to do anything in FA are now praising him...for winning FA. The guy can do no wrong.
He didn't win FA. That's a silly moniker. He's pretty much continued the same things he has done since Stephen Ross was hired.
