What guys do you expect increased contribution from the current roster? Yeatman? Matthews? Lots of talk about McCray at safety. Name the guys you expect more from this year, like Kaddu.
First and foremost, Ryan Tannehill. His development means everything, and I think he'll take a big jump. Jonathan Martin for another. I would think and hope an offseason of getting stronger and getting his body in shape to play tackle at the pro level... well, he's a smart guy and knows what he has to do. I think that carries over. In the same way, I want Olivier Vernon to take a big step forward, being stronger and knowing now what it takes at this level. I'd like to see Jones' star continue to rise at safety. And Matthews is intriguing, but he'll have to fight to make it on the roster. I still expect the team to draft a WR - not sure which round - and we have a few. Still, he has potential, and I'd like to see him continue to develop.
I'd like to see the following 5 players develop, in order: 1) Ryan Tannehill 2) Jonathan Martin 3) Michael Egnew 4) Reshad Jones 5) Lamar Miller Olivier Vernon and Josh Kaddu would be my honorable mentions, with a darkhorse candidate being Josh Samuda.
Yeah, Miller. Definitely. I totally mind-blanked on that one. Add him to my list above! And Egnew. Yeah, good list.
To expand on the question, include guys that may not be stongly focused on, as we know Tannehill, Martin, Vernon, Miller, and Jones will be. Guys like Shelby, Gray, Samuda etc.
Odrick should step up since he became starter. I know he is bit older but i think sill theres plenty of room that he can improve. Tanny for sure. He was nothing but potential last season. And Lamar Miller.
Odrick and Misi are two interesting guys. I am not sure if they belong in Miami. What could you get for them at this stage, or a better question to be asked, how can they fit in and contribute more?
I'll stay with Rishard Matthews, then, although like I said before, he may have a tough time making the team. The more we go on, however, I'm starting to think Bess may be the odd man out in our WR corps. I do think we'll draft one, and probably in the first couple days of the draft. Usually, you don't carry more than five... maybe six if someone's good on special teams. Well, Matthews is probably that guy at #5 for us. Plus, he showed potential at the end of last year. I think he can be developed. The nit I have with the premise of the question is that "guys not strongly focused on" are usually guys at the bottom of NFL rosters, and the bottom of NFL rosters get churned both in season and out of season each year. Obviously, some guys do develop from the bottom of rosters and become key players, so it's worth asking the question, I guess. But those guys are tough to pick out, especially if, like me, you're not able to watch practices or know what they're doing in the off-season, etc. So, yeah, Richard Matthews!
I'm not sure from what part of the brain it comes from, but when you know your going to be a potential first round pick and become a professional, and you don't train accordingly, your either a lazy *** or a dumass, at least in that part of your brain.
i dunno if these numbers are accurate on the dolphins homepage but they list yeatman 6-6 268.....if thats true, i guess he is not able to hold any weight and that experiment at T could be over
Production wise the two guys who will make the biggest jump are Tannehill and Miller for obvious reasons. Miller was our best ball carrier last year and I think given a full seasons worth of carries will manage to keep his avg above 4.5 ...Tannehill can't help but throw more touchdowns. Going from 2 receivers who can't get in the endzone to Wallace who can score from anywhere on the field to Gibson who's an obvious red zone upgrade to Bess/Hartline and Keller who might not be a better red zone guy than fasano but he s capable of scoring from a longer distance than fasano. Skills wise I expect Martin to be better. Hopefully he spent the off-season taking roids, eating like a horse and lifting like a madman.
Yeatman could be moved back to blocking tight end. He was a Lacrosse player? He is a good athlete from what I have heard. I find it hard to believe he is back down to 268, being that he was backup tackle last year. McDonald is intriguing. Might be a good right tackle.
He interviews with the Finsiders right after the season and said he was up to 305, and that Miami plans to keep him at tackle.
This team could really take off if Yeatman, Samuda, Burden, McDonald, and Allen developed at a faster pace. Of that group I expect more from Yeatman and Samuda, who could play guard. Kaddu improving would be great. I think the one position where you question the general lack of talent the most is at cb. Stanford just doesn't do it for me, and I don't know about Pressley making the move from offense in college. There is without question a lack of depth at offensive guard, cornerback, safety, and tightend. Gray developing would be huge for Miami.
Brown hadn't played football since high school, but he was a very good high school player. Yeatman was on the Maryland Lacrosse team I believe, and was on the practice squad of the Patriots if I recall.
This is the guy we have to be looking out for this year......Josh Samuda. He wont be a dark horse you will see him coming.............
i really don't know if there is a video of his remarks, it was just a little piece at the end of an article, really mentioned only in one sentence almost at the end of it. http://www.palmbeachpost.com/news/s...ns-joe-philbin-says-no-1-priority-is-f/nTjc6/
Michael egnew. Keller and clay won't keep him off the field next year. I'm optimistic about the guy. Kaddu Has some hype behind him now too
Agreed. I've said before here that I liked Gray. I think he has an outside chance to develop into a guy who can spell Miller, and even work as a backup 3rd down back. He's a good runner and blocker. A good RB all-around, and I've never been crazy about Donald Thomas. But, something tells me Ireland will draft a late RB project to try and improve his odds at that position.
Oh... and, I agree with the consensus that Tannehill, Martin, Miller, and Vernon need to turn the corner. I'd also add one more player that I think has an uphill battle to make the roster now, but... Jeff Fuller. Possession type with great size, good hands, reliable. Good red-zone target. Seems like a smart player. I'm rooting for him, although I think his chances are pretty slim.
