I'm interested in it (obviously) but I'll have to wait for it on Hulu or Netflix.

Interesting that the History Channel is moving into original content. How are the production values?

The story is faithful to the true history of the Vikings so far even to its first incursion against an English monastery .

With apologies to our Vengeful Odin ,I am glad I havent seen horns on the Vikings helmets because that is part of the fiction of the legend of the Vikings that was added later on to sell souveneirs.

I finally got around to catching the pilot episode as a free sneak peak on Amazon.

I was surprised at just how good the show looks. The cinematography is wonderful and some of the locations are amazing. The reveal at the end of episode 1 was really well done. That said, I came away a little underwhelmed. This show isn't as instantly watchable as, say Game of Thrones. I found the pacing to be a little bit slow and some of the characters aren't that exciting - at least not yet. I'm guessing things will pick up in the next couple of episodes.

Very enjoyable, nicely done History channel. I'm not going to put it on any "best of" lists (at least not yet), but it's a fun diversion that is worth checking out.

It's going to take some time to pick up as just kinda starting up. I imagine by end of the season going to be a lot more going on. Although the history side keeps me interested but I love history and I'm of Norwegian descent.

I kinda figured you were one with the avatar. The slow pace just I guess doesn't bother me because usually when something is really exciting that means it got a lot of the Hollywood touchup. If it's going to be historically accurate won't be the most exciting all the time.

I like history too and I like the show so far. It could use more character development, but I think it'll get there.
I was sad to see Erik die. I liked him.

I watched the 5th episode and I would say its the most exciting episode so far.Its all building up so that it justifies the emmigration of the Vikings to other lands.

The main reason they did so was the heavy handiness of the local chieftains who called themselves Kings .The claimed ownership of all of the lands under their control so the Vikings had the technology to emigrate to escape this persecution via their longboats and they did so .

They were a great influence on Europe .They settled in Russia....Russ means Vikings....much of England..Denmark... Normandy .....William the Conqueror was a Viking descendant.Ireland and Iceland too.

    Well done series.

I've heard they tried to settle the states to, but the Native Americans repelled them.

To me, one of the more interesting things about the Vikings is they not only tried to settle, at least temporarily, N America, they also raided all the way down into the Mediterranean and it was not uncommon to see them in Byzantium actually engaging in trade.

I think "modern" views of them just think of them as these sort of North Sea types, they went far and wide

Of course when they ran out of trade goods they would then raid places that seemed like easy targets..but it is what it is, they were Vikings

Gabriel Byrne as a Viking King just looks weird to me.

The Byzantium emperor was so impressed with them that he hired some of the most imposing Vikings as his personal bodyguard .

I hard time getting through the first episode so I turned it off. Given the positive comments, I may revisit it. I didn't think the production was stellar, but I think Game of Thrones has spoiled me

    Get off my lawn.
History Channel has been spot on with production recently... Not to derail the thread, but I've had a great time watching Men Who Built America. But yeah, Vikings is good but still falls behind Spartacus and Game of Thrones

I disagree .Game of thrones is a fantasy .Spartacus was a historical figure but the series exploits gore, sex, violence and special effects more than it reflects history.

Having said that I follow all three series for its entertainment value and they are well produced and entertaining..

    It's the mullet.

Fantastic. This is now what I'm doing this weekend.

Production values aren't at the level of a Game of Thrones but I feel like they're right up there with Spartacus. I prefer the grounded approach to Vikings than the stylized version of Sparatacus. That being said neither one is close to GoT.

I dont buy that they were unaware of the British Isles.
That has to be an oversight.

Good episode last night. The Vikings showed they were a lot more skilled at combat than the English thought.

The theme to Vikings is from a song in season 4, episode 3 of Breaking Bad.

Was a bit disappointed in the premier... also had enough of the soap opera with Rollo with last season.

Enjoyed seeing Donal Logue. Still hate that Terriers was cancelled after the first season...
