9 million a year to get bulled back into the qb, beaten around the corner, and not finish the season? Enjoy St.Louie. He's a shadow of his former self, and there is zero chance he see's the end of that contract. Moving on with our off-season...
That's too much for Jake sorry. I do not trust his health enough for 9M per season. I hope he stays healthy, but i doubt it.
Good. Take your broken down, overpaid a$$ who never met an aging speed rusher he could stop, out of here. Jonathon Martin. Please report to the weight room now.
I don't think it's a failed pick because of his injury. You don't see that coming. It was the wrong pick, though. Should have been Ryan.
Agreed. I'm sure Ireland will catch a load of crap for this, but I stand with the organization on this one. A lot of money and years tied up into a guy who can't stay healthy.
This sucks man...I talked all thru last season and this offseason that he was gonna leave us, I saw things and just got the feeling that he didn't want to be here..Him taking his talents to St. Louis. Geez, now I gotta deal with big weirdo and his weirdo *** game..double punch to the ribs.. Bryant mccinnie is in good shape, he's ready to leave Baltimore, bring his *** home, he's got some game left from what I saw, dude was serious about playing good ball, and looked svelt doing so.. Wow, jakes gone..well, if he didnt want to be here than it's for the best..
This could go for us or it could go against us. If Long recovers to pro bowl form we look like fools. And the healthier he plays and more games he plays the worst the Dolphins will look as time goes by. If he goes in and gets injured, and can't stay on the field that will justify the move and make Ireland look smart.
Winston plus a cornerback versus Long. I'll take the first option. If Smith is getting 5m the next guy is going to get 4m. Winston probably will get about 5m. I never liked the Long at LT, Martin at RT alignment. I thought Martin was mediocre to below average at LT, but it seemed more natural than RT.
It’s a four-year deal, with a base value of $34 million, for an average of $8.5 million annually. With incentives, the deal can reach $36 million.
nice player I wonder if Volmer is really looking to leave, I can't see how New England lets that kid go.
I always had this thought that ESPN despised us and I just noticed their headlines say: "Ex-Dolphins OT...+ Ex-Dolphins LB Burnett..." Or they love us...Did not notice this for many other teams. All the best for Jake, but I think it is for the best. Putting that much money into a guy that has been injured quite a bit and in a few diff spots is not wise.
Gosh I would like to know how heavy Ireland was for long at #1 5 years ago, letting him walk after his first contract seems a bit strange if your conviction was that strong then.. I hope that 2 maro during the press conference at the owners meeting someone has the balls to ask him who had final say on the pick, and if he had, who would he of gone with..that's not out of bounds right?
I don't know why you keep saying he doesn't want to be here. He obviously did. St. Louis just gave him a better offer.
I'm pissed he is gone. I'll be less pissed if Ireland sorts out the O-line, which looks ugly right now with no right tackle.
I remember hearing Ireland say last year when asked about Long becoming a free agent, "He isn't going anywhere." I thought for sure right then Jake would be Long gone this year.
I'd much rather have LT- Martin, RT- Winston with a solid CB than have Long at 9m a year with Martin at RT. Heck if you're worried about the OL so much go sign Brandon Moore from the Jets for 4m a year.
Lol did any one tell him he has to face Seattle and SF twice a year now? That alone will make the St Louis front office look like fools. Atleast in our division he had a fighting chance.... Lesson learned, don't try and tell coach who he can and cannot cut. Works for me. Obviously they have a grand plan here and Jake was never part of it or he would be here for that price. Look at the whole Flynn situation. People were jumping off bridges because Flynn was a lock and we could not land hm. Must not have wanted to land h thank god we are not making decisions for this team
i´m glad we passed on that 9 mill a year deal for a player who does not touch the football...ready to move on
If we actually do land Eric Winston, we will be better off. A natural LT/RT is far more preferable to 2 LTs. We will yield better results and lesser cost. We will have a couple of very smart players on the line. But GET WINSTON SIGNED!
I certainly hope we don't use the 1st rounder on an OT - and more than likely to get one we'd have to trade up - which would REALLY suck.
Wait a second. Pump the brakes a minute. Let me see if I understand this. If he plays well, we should have signed him. If he gets hurt or plays poorly, we were right? Next you are going to tell me the same thing about Sean Smith. So what happens to Mike Wallace? Let me guess. If he plays well, it was a good signing. If he plays poorly, it was bad? Genius.
Brandon Moore likely won't get much more than 4m a year, but he's one of the NFL's best RGs year in and year out. Sign him and Winston and I'd call that an improvement over Long at 9m.
Now we should have the money for Eric Winston + Brent Grimes/Abraham/Dumerville. See ya, Jake. Don't start regretting your decision when we're leading the division!
Wow... That's not too bad. Could have gotten rid of him if things panned out badly for him. I'm most disappointing because I think 12+2a= 1st round left tackle... again.
But if he is below average to mediocre at LT, are you expecting that he improves, hoping we upgrade him with a better LT, or just tolerate his play? I'm sort of where you are on Martin. And I'd be fine with signing Vollmer, and drafting a good OT in the draft, then letting the best of the three take the LT spot.
