Once they deal with the tackle situation here my biggest signing would be an extension.

    For Reshad Jones.

In the further evolution of Ireland I would like to see him recognize Jones as a young must sign up and coming player. Get it done now and take that risk that he might not have as good as a season. The benefit is if he does......you've got a nice piece wrapped up for years at a price that will be at least $1.5 to $2 million less a year.

Hartline should be the prime example. They could have locked him up earlier. I know he tried but that should have been done earlier in the offseason before Hartline got injured. We could have had Hartline for Bess money then.

I would not extend Reshad until half the season. You have to wait and see if last year was a fluke, or a trend. You cannot extend a player after just 1 good season, that's not smart.

Wait a little bit and see if his break out was for real.

After watching him live and in person for his college career, his play is not a fluke. This is who he is and we do need to lock him up long term.

I think it would have been a mistake to sign hartline any sooner than we did. The market changed i
I during that period for #2 wrs and his agent could/ should have argued for # 1 wr money at that time, since he was our #1 then. Bottom line is we got him for what the market is now. As to jones, I think you wait too. Is he Coyle's kind of safety? Don't know that yet....

Middle of the year. He is on a make or break run for the first couple of weeks of the season.

I also don't think it was a fluke. I think he is going to be a long term member of the Dolphins!!!!

Ok Mr. Ireland and this is why you pay $30 million to Hartline's ;p It's why it's called a risk.

It was a mistake to not get him signed sooner. We could have got him for at least $1.5 million less a season then. Ireland should have had it done during the early part of the offseason...by the time he started Hartline had his medical issues and Ireland sat. It cost him.

Could have had him for Gibson money (whose agent won't even leak what the contract is).

I'm all for keeping Jones. I would wait to see how much money we have left after we sign the drafts and other FA's.

Get er' done. If he has another season like last were going to have to franchise tag him or offer him a very very rich top 2 or 3 safety contract.

Get it done while the getting is good I say.

No. We are the team that signs Hartline for $30 million. We are the team that has to let Langford walk because he gets a ridiculous offer that the team can in no way afford.

Good teams lock up their good young guys they want to keep a year before to avoid these situations in the first place.

By the way that Stevie Johnson contract is looking pretty good now.

Sorry bro Ireland never extends his own draft picks before their final year is up.

You also assume Jones would want to sign for a small contract instead of play the season, improve more and be in line for a bigger payday. Signing these guys is not automatic.

You mean like how the super bowl champion ravens locked up flacco?

Signing players isn't always so cut and dry. Being "good" or "bad" doesn't mean anything

There's always a line that most guys will be satisfied with. All depends on whether they want to bet on themselves or risk the year of possible injury.

Yah. That would have nothing to do with the bad cap situation they were in and also a case of what happens when you don't re-sign your QB's early also. They got caught being wishy washy on Flacco's value and he made them pay. There are a high number of guys who get re-signed early. Philly back in the day used to make a habit of it.

It's pretty simple if we don't get him locked up this offseason. We could have trouble doing it next season. Ireland's all in this season and if you've seen the contracts he's stacking next years cap. I really don't want to see a situation like how we got Ellerbe. Expecting one contract situation but another team sweeping him up for much more cause were fighting for cap room.

Unfortunately r. Jones hasn't earned a big contract yet. I certainly hope he kills it next year but one season does not equal a multiple year multiple million dollar deal.

Jones is a playmaker and will be retained either via contract or franchise tag. Some are speculating that Starks will be signed long-term but Ireland doesn't have a great track record of signing 30ish year old players to long-term deals.

I think with both DTs up next year that DT has to be an early round priority in this draft. What we need to do is carry over some of our cap savings to next off-season.
