As I stated before FA/offseason began, I think that improving the pass rushing and the passing game were the top two priorities. With the focus that first day on Wallace and now Gibson after having re-signed Hartline, the pursuit of TEs and then the signing two of the top rated pass rushing LBs and then the early interest in Bennett, all before showing much if any interest in CBs, it's clear that Miami's priority was just that. It may or may not work of course, but clearly those areas were their focus. And I fully believe it will continue to be their focus early in the draft.

BenVolinPBP Jim Irsay says he's trying to trade for a WR, but says it isn't Victor Cruz. Total speculation, but maybe Davone Bess? 9 minutes ago · reply · retweet · favorite

    Couple of noteworthy tweets perhaps.

I gotta say for better AND worse I very much sense a Seattle flavor in the moves that the Jets have been making.

Speaking specifically about Mike Goodson and Antwan Barnes (good). But also in their handling of the QB situation (bad).

Have to remember that until they drafted Russell Wilson most people were thinking "What the eff are you guys doing at QB???"

So, when accounting the draft, we should have about 11 million to spend.

How do we get back 7 million? Because of Burnett and Dansby?

Burnett and Dansby were designated by the team as "June 1st" cuts. The NFLPA worked out a deal with the NFL to change the old post-June 1st salary cap accounting as it relates to players cut, to where the team could actually cut the player any time and just designate him a "June 1st" cut. That way the team still gets to account for it the same on their salary cap as they would if they actually cut the guy in June, but the player has the benefit of hitting free agency early. From a cap standpoint though, the player still counts as if he's on your roster until June 1st. That's where the $7 million comes in.

I'm assuming the Dolphins feel like they can spend every bit of the $15 million knowing that they've got $7 million of relief coming in June with which they can sign rookies and make emergency signings.

NFL network has confirmed Dolphins Chiefs have spoke about trading for Albert....that 2A seems to be the asking price.

It's a good avenue to pursue, I think. Albert is about as blue chip a prospect as was available this off-season at tackle, and he's probably the best scheme fit outside of Eric Winston. You'd rather not have to spend a 2, but it's not a bad price all things considered for the player.

I honestly haven't done my homework on Albert as a T, remember he was a BEAST of A Guard though.

He's more durable than Jake and maybe even better. Offer them 2B and don't give an inch.

not the point I don't have an issue with the player but you just let long go over money this guy also wants to get paid and cost you a 2nd round pick would of just been better off paying long

Won't comment until I've seen him play. Initial thought is, don't understand why that's your plan of attack when you could've just tossed Jake Long an extra million to make him happy and keep him home. You're going to pay Albert just as much in all likelihood and you're also going to give up a 2nd round pick for him.

Long is 6 months younger than Albert.

He's been a LT since he came into the NFL. You ain't seen him since college?

This is about scheme fit. Albert is a far better pass-blocker and I think he's quicker for a ZBS. It makes sense to make this move and then have Martin strengthen himself to play RT.

If you're asking me to pick between Long and Albert to play in a ZBS, I'm taking Albert. There also is a lot less risk with Albert.

No question, plus he's healthy. The draft pick is a loss but heck at this point I'd love to have the best possible pass protector protecting Ryan Tannehill.

It's a "What have you done for me lately" kind of deal. Like has been mentioned, Albert doesn't have the question marks with the ability to be productive, and he's been better than Long the past two years.

The ball is in Miamis court from a negotiation standpoint.

-We are one of few teams who could afford his salary.
-we are one of few teams who have multiple high picks.
-We can play the "we believe in Jon Martin" card.
-Jeff knows they want to take one of the 2 LTs in draft.

I don't know what Jeff plans on offering, but he holds the chips.
