At least if they did go after Vollmer, they'd have a fallback option if Martin is getting Tannehill killed...IMO.

CK, who gave up more pressures per play at RT? Martin or Vollmer?

I've always thought so. I was a huge fan of his coming out and he was a left tackle at Houston. He played LT for the first part of his rookie year when Matt Light was out of the game and he did really well. Light got back and so he moved to RT. They drafted Nate Solder when Light retired. I suppose it hurts that they didn't have confidence in Vollmer moving over to left to where they drafted Solder but they also could've just een Solder as a unique prospect (which has turned out true).

It's been longer since he's played it, but Winston was also a LT in college and his physique and athleticism are more like a typical LT than RT. I wouldn't plan on moving him but he can probably fill in at LT too if you needed him to.

On New England, Vollmer allowed a pressure play on 5.3% of his pass snaps.

On Miami, Jon Martin allowed a pressure play on 9.7% of his pass snaps. But if you isolate just the games Jon Martin played right tackle, 8.9%. He allowed pressure on 11.4% of his pass snaps at left tackle.

Thanks a lot. I knew he was worse, just didn't know he was that much worse.

Some of that can be attributed to Brady's ability to get rid of the ball in a timely manner, but its still a dramatic difference.

So every 11th pass play called, Tannehill should audible out...got it.

In 2011, Green Bay played Marshall Newhouse 545 pass snaps, and he gave up 54 pressures in those snaps. His PBE was 92.2.

This year, he improved to giving up 46 pressures in 644 pass snaps, for a PBE of 94.6.

Jonathan Martin gave up 57 pressures in 551 pass snaps, for a PBE of 92.0.

For what it's worth, Brady took pressure on 24.9% of his pass snaps. Vollmer was responsible for 5.3% of that (21%). Tannehill took pressure on 30.6% of his pass snaps, and Martin was responsible for 9.7% of that (32%).

So...yeah it's still significantly worse even if you want to adjust it in that way.

I notice that your mock only has us taking one lineman, a guard in the 7th....how does your ideal line play out for opening day?

I participated in #MockTwo prior to free agency. I had my ideas about how free agency should play out. The Dolphins had their own ideas.

In looking at the current roster, it is only common sense that Martin is CURRENTLY the top candidate for the LT position. Of course there are still some players in free agency and in the draft which the Dolphins might prefer to see protecting Tannehill's blind side when the 2013 season rolls around.

I know I would certainly like a better option for the LT position during the 2013 season than Martin.

It should be noted that #MockOne is about writers taking a crack at being GM. It's not about who you think the team will take. It's about who you want.

I think the fact that Ireland is out there saying this right now suggests they really are looking at trading for Brandon Albert.

He's got exceptional numbers as a pass protector. He gave up one sack in 2012 and very few hurries. He's an average run blocker at best.

Either way, it's good to see that they're marrying their player selections to the prospects available these days rather than trying to stick guys into spots they can't play in. Long isn't a fit in this scheme, especially slower and injured.

Side note:It's the reason Reggie Bush isn't a Dolphin. I like the ZBS based vertical WCO and the 4-3 under. They're the easiest offenses and defenses to draft and sign FAs for yet they're also just as effective as any other offense/defense if done correctly.

I could live with that, especially considering that it appears the Dolphins are going to rely more on the pass than the run in 2013.

It's the same with John Jerry and Richie Incognito, if they're not going to fit the scheme let them go. Incognito I'm ok with because he takes great care of himself and he can hit the second level somewhat well. He can't pull from LG and go across the entire line like a perfect LG but so be it.

Houston's line has guys that fit. Together they're a great line and they do well because of it.

I disagree on Incognito not pulling. I have no clue where this bs started. I too looked back at all the games. in 2011 when Carey was there Incognito could not pull and go thru the hole because Carey and Columbo could not even make a hole, that was the issue in 2011.

In 2012 Jerry and Martin did a much better job but again, Incognito pulled and got to the hole a lot of times and there was no hole but even then, he moved the entire pile forward. Incognito pulled many times to his right and blocked the DE or LBer coming in. As far as getting to the second level ? LOL if you think he did not do that good then you better watch the film again. Many times he was waaaaaaaaaaaay downfield . Forget who it was on here but they confirmed exactly what I saw by going back and looking at the film. Did hemake mistakes ? Yep, every Olineman makes mistakes.

Watch the film, if Jerry or Martin made a hole, Incognito was thru it hitting someone downfield or past the LOS. When they moved Martin to LT and Garner to RT then the holes Incognito had to pull thru were far and few in between but there was not one instance where Incognito was not at the hole before the RB got there, not one. This is a BS statement. Incognito and Pouncey are sound Olineman. Hell, when Martin came over to the left, even though I am not enthused with Martin, you could plainly see Incognito did not have to go far out to his left and help a lot like he did on many plays for Jake.

Wow a rumor circulating that the Dolphins could acquire Brandon Albert for a second round pick.
The rub is he is 29 years old.
I would still seriously consider it.

I'm pretty ok with that for a 2nd round pick and a contract so long as it's cheaper than Jake Long's.

29 years old is not old anymore. If an Olineman keeps himself in good shape they are good until 32 33 now. I have no problem with Albert at all. Keep Martin, draft Kyle Long in the 3rd so we can give John Jerry a bus ticket out of town when he cannot get below 350 million pounds.

Not cheaper now. He just signed his franchise tag money. Thats 9 million for 2013 and a draft pick ? No way. Screw it, use the 12th pick to replace Jake.

The franchise tag doesn't mean he gets paid that yearly average over the length of the contract.

Just looke him up. Jake finished 45th per PFF and Albert finished 25th. Only shows Albert playing 12 games though, was he injured ?

In my opinion Ireland's statement regarding Martin shows they are not sold on Martin as the starting LT. If they were confident in Martin he would have said he was our left tackle not the leading candidate.

They have the cash to get Albert and Winston. That would be a heck of a move. It takes a bruised ego for Ireland after just one year but this is about results.

I understand that but he is going to want a big contract. Trading for him will cost us a pick and 9 million dollars. If the numbers aren't to his agents Liking for a contract we offer, we may just be in the same spot we are in now this time next year.

I would rather get one in the draft. None of these FA OTs impress me at all as LTs, not even Alberts.

Actually the rub is that he had a back injury. Apparently checked out OK with KC doctors or they wouldn't have franchised him, but it was a concern there.

On the plus side Tanny will learn quick enough that sprinting out ,scrambling and running to the sidelines will no longer be an option but a survival technique.

Got to look deeper then that. Albert's pass block rating was 11th and he only gave up 1 sack, 4 hits and 12 pressures. A PBE of 96.6. I just question the wisdom of trading for Albert and paying for him like that over just taking a tackle in the draft...screw the perception.
