I thought your neighbor was cussing out Long and saying the Rams were better off without him, when Long left St. Louis without a contract last week. It appears your neighbor is one of those people who can't make up his mind how he feels.
Eli Manning isn't overrated either? WTF? Elite QBs don't miss the playoffs unless there are some very unusual circumstances. Flaccid isn't a bad QB by any stretch. He's not elite either. Certainly wouldn't pay him that absurd contract.
Oh you got it. He is a real winner. If they had signed him before Jake left then Jake was great. Now when he left, Jake sucked and he felt like he played the Rams. Now that he is signed it will be WE GOT JAKE AWAY FROM MIAMI. IMO, honest, loved Jake but this is not a monumental loss as a lot think it is. We lost a good kid that ONCE was the best. Thats what we lost.
I don't completely disagree with you at all, and I don't want to seem like I'm ****ting all over Ireland over Long being gone. Lord knows I've done my fair of ****ting on him, but like I said before, parting ways with Long might be the right move. I've always felt like it's an entirely different era of football where you built a team around a LT. Teams with great QBs don't really need one. Let's hope Tannehill can continue to develop without Long. But I do think it's a mistake to ignore the fact that aside from having his share of big whiffs, Ireland is now watching many of his wins walk out the door after their first contracts. Nothing to do but to sit back and see how Ireland does with the draft. If the team improves without Smith, Long, Dansby, Bush, etc. then Ireland was right. If the team stays stuck in neutral well, that probably means these losses weren't adequately filled. Worse would point to Ireland's boat springing leaks quicker than he can patch them. I still think Ireland lives and dies on Tannehill's arm this year. That, more than any of the losses or free agent signings will signify Ireland's fate.
LMFAO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Heard about this flacid guy, throws a soft one down the middle.
For the record, in order to be awarded a supplemental pick you have to forfeit your corresponding round pick in the next full NFL draft. You're referring to compensatory picks, and those are determined based on the year prior's FA signings (so in Long's case the pick or picks would be determined after this year), however we've signed far too much in FA to even think we'll get any compensatory picks in 2014 IMO.
We are going to regret this 1M if Ryan doesn't have any time all season for the deep ball to Wallace... And is actually less with his tax loss in Missouri.
I figured. That danged auto correct would drive me insane. Is there anyway to disable it? I see the most bizarre get posted by auto correct.
good riddance, to much coin. look at the winning teams. None of them pay that kind of money for anybody, unless your somebody like Tom Brady. Screw him. Don't let the door hit you in the a$$ on the way out.
They may get a third for Long so if you really look at it would be: Albert+ late 3 for Long+2. Not a net gain, but it's something you have to do.
We won't get any comp picks for Long now. Wallace offsets him. Net gain and loss are a big factor along with contract sizes. Cuts like Dansby and Burnett don't factor in. We've signed Wallace, Ellerbe, Wheeler, Keller and Gibson so far and lost Long, Smith, Fasano, Bush. Who else did we lose or could lose as a UFA? Right now we are a +1. So, now comp picks next year.

Palm Beach posted the details of Long's contract. That would certainly have been doable for Miami to take the hit this year the way Ireland has been structuring contracts. http://blogs.palmbeachpost.com/thed...tually-more-complex-than-originally-believed/ Dr. Andrews said Long is fully recovered from his triceps injury. None more reputable than him and don't think he would be putting out false or misleading information. Considering Long's talent, leadership and the cohesiveness with Incognito he won't be easily replaced. Marting at LT instead of Long is a major step backwards. ****ing Ireland.
I would have re-signed him. At the amount of money he got from New England, I'd have given some thought to grabbing Sebastian Vollmer to play right tackle even on top of that contract, though I'm sure that wouldn't have been popular. I'd have also made a proper run at Martellus Bennett by outbidding Chicago. Miami got in on the running for him late after being turned down by Jared Cook, but their offer was below Chicago's. I think Antwan Barnes on the same 3 year, $4 million contract he signed with the Jets is a no-brainer. It wouldn't have precluded other signings or draft prospects. I'd have rather signed Domenik Hixon with the money given to Brandon Gibson.
if philbin and Irish felt that they wanted to risk the injury issues from Long, they would have...Long chose where he wanted to be...that's not necessarily irish's fault...
If we're really going to go with Martin at left, have to see how it plays out, whichever way it goes will tell us a lot about how he evaluates Olineman..
I agree I think that was a big part of the decision: “It was a tough decision,” Long told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. “I came in for a visit and Coach (Jeff) Fisher and Kevin Demoff and (general manager) Les Snead were amazing. I just fell in love with their vision and the entire organization. And all the great things they had to say about (Rams owner Stan) Kroenke and the way they go about football. “They really made me feel welcome — my wife and I. It was such a great family atmosphere. It was something I wanted to be a part of. But in the end I wanted to think it through, make the right decision because Miami was amazing to me. Took me No. 1. (Dolphins owner Stephen) Ross and I have a great relationship. This was my home for the last five years, and I just wanted to make sure I made the right decision and I’m happy with the decision I made.” http://aol.sportingnews.com/nfl/sto...free-agency-2013-st-louis-rams-miami-dolphins Interesting how Long mentions Demoff and Snead and having a great relationship with Ross, but doesn't say anything about Ireland. More and more I think Ireland may have a form of Arspberger syndrome.
I read the same thing into that. It seems that Ireland just doesn't have the greatest people skills and it hurts him and in turn that means it hurts the team. We fans also suffer then too.
