I just find people saying others opinions are "wrong" is kinda silly, thats all.

Dont care though. Some of you are clearly more passionate about this logo than me, lol...

Hey...I dont think any has any problems with people not liking it. Most of the worst if at finhell...but the one that I have a hard time grasping is the, whale thing. Are people really that confused as to what a whale and a dolphin look like?

Well I guess the point is that if people think it looks like a whale, the logo isn't clear enough. Like if an elk looked like a moose or something. IDK. I dont see it, but I understand what they are saying

That's the point. It was very much what a dolphin looked like. It was only unclear if you did not know what a dolphin looked like. And it wasn't like it was unclear to everybody. There were certainly people who said it looked like a whale and not a dolphin, but most, once they were shown pictures of dolphins that looked like the logo, realized that it was in fact an accurate representation of what a dolphin looked like. There's really only a few posters here who are still arguing that it looks like a whale. Like most of those that once believed the world was flat or that the sun revolved around the earth, they changed their thinking once they were shown objective facts. They may still not like the logo, but that's a separate issue. They just abandoned the inaccurate complaint that it did not look like a dolphin.

When they release the logos, should the press kit also include pictures of whales and dolphins so that people aren't confused? :tongue2:

I think it looks whale-ish... and I dont care how "to scale" it may be with an actual dolphin. It has a look like its slowly and gracefully cruising through the ocean... which is what I picture a whale to look like when floating along in the ocean. I envision a dolphin bolting through the ocean and jumping high out of the water. And when I picture a dolphin jumping out of the water, I dont picture a dolphin stretching flat out when in the air (even though this may happen from time to time), I picture it curving in the air to dive back down in it instead of belly flopping.

So... while you may not agree with it (and thats completely cool), hopefully you understand it a little better?

You're comparing this to people thinking the world is flat? lol...

It doesnt look like how I personally would envision a dolphin, or at least how I would want a dolphin represented as a football mascot...

So, since a lot of people had this misconception at first... should they add a dimensional picture of an actual dolphin next to the logo so others dont continue to have that first impression? lol

lol. You are missing the point though. Even if even person that thinks it looks like a whale is a moron (they aren't), if there are enough of them then there could be a branding problem.

of course that can be solved by making the logo an obvious freaking cartoon character, but we have already been down that road

But that's not the case. The difference between is a whale and a dolphin from a physical standpoint is greater than the difference between a hatchback and sedan.

I don't think most were. I think people just tend to resist change or didn't like it for other reasons and that among those there were some that latched on to the inaccurate argument that it didn't look like a dolphin. Most of those dropped that argument once they realized that it did in fact look exactly like a dolphin. They may still not like the logo, but I see it as progress when people stop using inaccurate statements to attack something they don't like.

Other than overall size (which cant be determined from the logo) and a slightly longer beak... there isnt much difference at all from a physical standpoint.

Re: Miami Dolphins New Logo Thread

If someone needs to be shown a photo of a real Dolphin to accept that the symbolic Dolphin looks like a Dolphin, that is a failure of the symbol. Not the viewer.

It's about what symbols evoke in people, not about the scientific realities that inspired the symbol.

It didn't look more like a real whale than a real dolphin. It looked more like the symbol for whale (Sea World) than the symbol for dolphin had looked before. That is my point.

I think the newly leaked logo fixes that. But we'll see. I've already had my first impression. There will be more people who will see the official logo for the first time than have seen the leaks. I'm hopeful the new logo doesn't evoke Whale to them, but we'll see.

    I disagree.

If a person doesn't know the difference between whales and dolphins or what dolphins actually look like, how is that the failure of the symbol?

I also believe that it's definitely a jersey. So he's probably just showing us one of the sleeves and the normal logo would be facing to the right.

I believe the Eagles are the only team who's logo faces the left.

I'm a very clear example that your theory doesn't fly.
I liked enough of it except for the first impression that it looked like a whale, and that it was too flat and corporate.

I love the new leak because that all seems to be fixed.

I understand that some people may have an inaccurate impression of what a dolphin looks like. I just don't understand still sticking to the argument after being shown that it is objectively wrong. I know it happens. As I said I have met at least one person in my lifetime who still believed that the sun revolved around the earth. But I see that as just stubbornness. And I think that extreme stubbornness is a very small minority. I only see a couple of posters still making any claims that it doesn't look like a dolphin. Almost everybody has admitted that it does in fact look exactly like a dolphin. They may still not like the logo (too corporate, boring or not aggressive enough seem to be the main complaints), but they dropped the inaccurate part of their argument.

It has nothing to do with whether the person knows the difference between real whales and real dolphins.

It's about symbolic language. 90% of dolphin symbols in the world show an arched jumping dolphin. And 90% of whale symbols show a swimming whale with its tail higher than its head.

For me it is the navy belly that makes it look sleeker.

However, as I've said, I only thought it looked like a whale in my first impression. I can't have an honest first impression with the new leak.

It's just an awkward pose, just because a Dolphin can make that pose jumping doesn't mean it's pleasing to the eyes. It's like just because you can make a box hang half way of a table doesn't mean it makes a good drawing composition.
