OK.......we have #12 overall , and 4 other picks in the 2nd and 3rd rounds. If Miami gets the oppourtunity to trade down from the #12 to say the high Teens or even the early 20's..........do you go for it and add even more picks to an already fat plate ? Or even the other way around........with 4 picks , do you sacrafice one to move up in the first round for a sure fire prospect? Thats not really Irlends M.O. though. He has never really been a gambler. I say if the oppoutunity arrised to Trade down you take it. Right now we have many holes to fill. The more the meerier.
I think it all depends on opportunity, much like everything else. If you're not in love with a guy at #12, then you hear offers. You get offered a 3rd and a 5th to drop to #19? You probably take it. You then likely grab one of your top 3 guys, assuming you have a couple of guys that you're comfortable selecting in the #18-#20 area, and you grab them. You then take that extra ammo and try to maximize the value. What does that mean? It means possibly trading that top 2nd rounder for a future 1st. It makes trading that top 3rd round for a future 2nd. Maybe trading that bottom 2 and extra 3rd from the trade down for a #34-#40 player. The main question is - Who does Ireland like in this draft, and where does he feel they will be available? Once he establishes that, it becomes a poker game.
I wouldn't mind staying at 12 taking star and then jumping to 15 with a 2,3,6 and grab Eifert, I'd **** rainbows
If we have a chance to move up a little for Lane Johnson, I'd not complain if Jeffy did that as long as he doesn't sell the farm to do it
If we could find a trade partner to the 17-23 area I would. I'm no draft guru don't claim to be but I really like what this draft has to offer in the late 1st- 3rd. I think a bunch of ills can be cured in that area
Depends on who you want really. If you are looking at CBs I think you do it. Eifert? Do it. If you want Tavon Austin though? I wouldn't chance it. Dropping down did nothing for us in 2010, it is not always the best way to go.
This is what I am hoping will happen. I just think there will still be good talent OTB in the mid to late teens. And, adding another 2nd or 3rd rounder to this draft would be awesome! That said, I like the way Gunner is thinking. If Lane Johnson makes it out of the top ten, I would not be at all surprised to see us move up to get him.
Don't expect much trading in this draft early IMO, not sure their is much of a difference from talent with #1-#20
If the Dolphins don't have Tank Carradine or Bjoern Werner on their board at 12, I think I'd prefer the trade down. I get worried that Tank won't make it to wherever we trade down to. I know Bjoern won't. But if you're not after either of those guys I'm neutral-to-positive on a trade down.
You would think a Patterson would be on the Chargers radar. Rivers could use a dynamic wideout with speed.
The Raiders have zero starting caliber OTs. Seriously, zero. Neither a RT or LT. It won't matter who is there if Philip Rivers is running for his life after 1 second
I am against trading down at all. If Austin is on the board at 12 then take him. If he's OTB and we don't take him I'll be very disappointed. The next worst thing would be either the Bills or Jets pulling a surprise and taking him before we pick.
I think theres a zero chance they take another lineman at 12.They have said all off season how they want to get more explosive on offense.Even though we got Wallace I think they will stay at 12 and draft Tavon Austin.Pound for pound best offensive player in the draft.
No if Austin or Patterson are still available at 12, or even Carradine depending on what we do during this FA. If those players are not available then i would trade down.
I'm going to challenge your assertion that we have 'too many holes to fill'. Our problem is no longer qualtity of players, it's quality. Do we have a DE opposite Wake? Yes. Is he great? No. Do we have WR's, a RB, Safeties, LBs? Yes. Could we use more? Only if they are so good they can supplant the already decent-to-good starters. Do we have a good TE. Yes. Is he great? No, he could block better. Unless we pick up GREAT players at most positions, they won't improve the position... with the exception of two positions that have glaring holes: 1) Cornerback We lost Sean Smith. Dmitri Patterson and Richard Marshall must have asterisks next to their names due to their return from injury, mediocre level of play, and price tags. Not a compelling trio of factors. We clearly need bodies here, and even 'good' will do. 2) Offensive Tackle Whether it's to play at Left Tackle or at Right Tackle, we are short one bookend, no matter ow you look at it. We must acquire one starting caliber tackle via Free Agency or the draft. If he's a great player, he could play LT for us. If he is merely 'decent' he may become the RT. I submit to you that we only have two positions where ANY decent player will do. And we can address those with two or three picks. We have five picks in the first three rounds. That leads me to believe it makes more sense to consolidate those picks, move up in the draft and get very talented, great players at those positions rather than build more depth of decent-to-good players at positions where we already have competent (not great) players. I'd look for us to take an OT or CB at 12, or maybe even move up to get the OT we want. We will likely then use the remaining picks to move up and get whatever we didn't take at 12. The remainder of the draft will be getting players with upside at all our other positions. Developmental guys who could leapfrog current 'decent' starters like Clemons, Misi, Odrick, John Jerry and the like.
It doesn't benefit Ireland to collect future picks if he is in the last year of his cpntract and in win now mode. If we trade down, its only to trade back up at different spots, imo. It's more likely we trade our pick(s) for a current NFL starter.
So do we. I am getting more confident that Austin will not be there at 12. There is a growing buzz about him and the Jets and Bills need play makers even more than we do. I will hate it if that happens, but maybe we can get one of the OT because of this and the unexpected QB taken earlier than projected. Cosell, on NFL network yesterday, said he expects 3 or 4 QB's to be taken in the first. He has Nassib rated as his #1 QB. Oh, and by the way, he says Austin is a special offensive talent.
I'm not trading down past the Rams at 16. we swap 1sts and STL gives us their 3rd, going off the draft value chart it's a perfect trade, 1200 points for 1200 points.
I think they stay at #12 honestly. I think Star Lotelelei, Lane Johnson, Tavon Austin, and Bjoern Werner are the main targets right now with Arthur Brown being a dark horse. Don't get me wrong, Brown is an extreme long shot but I was shocked at how unhappy we were with our linebacking core and don't think they are just going to leave it at what it is.
