Congrats to Chipper on Home Run #400 last night. One of the all-time greatest switch-hitters. He also raised his average to .418 with 4 hits against the Fish. Chipper Jones #10 3B» 2008 STATS BA HR RBI OBP SLG .418 14 39 .498 .667
woooo we got philly at home next. Need to def sweep here, and then hopefully figure out how to start winning some ont eh road heh.
I'd settle for a series win but yes a sweep would be great. That would put them half a game out of first I believe. On the other hand a series loss would set them back significantly, especially with the Cubs on the road next. Let's cross our fingers. Hudson's up tonight.
Don't worry guys, all the bad luck for the next road trip was used up in last night's game. I hope they enjoy that gift from Kelly Johnson.
that was the kind of heartbreaking loss that could snowball. unbelievable. i watched the pop fly, saw Kelly call everytbody off, and said; "just don't drop it Kelly." i would be curious to see how many no decisions that Hudson has in his time in Atlanta, that were blown saves and such. it seems as though it happens to him ALOT.
Yeah I had a bad feeling when Kelly sauntered over to it. A perfect clip to show your little leaguer why you should always use 2 hands... The Philles werent going to let Chipper beat them either, consecutive IBB late in the game.
And the downward spiral begins. Now they're losing at home. Last place here we come. At least we can follow Chipper and his amazing season.
The holes in our bullpen seem too large right now. Until we get some more guys healthy down there we will continue to play .500 ball.
Figured we needed a little good news, Chipper was nameD NL Player of the Week for June 2 - 8. Jones hit .579 with 3 homers over that stretch including his 400th career. CHIPPER '400' WATCH Player AVG POS G AB R H 2B HR RBI TB BB SO OBP SLG C Jones .420 3B 58 219 44 92 12 15 41 149 38 24 .504 .680
Looks like your boy may be getting the call with Glavine's DL stint: Charlie Morton, P ATL News: Charlie Morton is coming off his worst start in Triple-A, but the assignment of Tom Glavine (elbow) to the 15-day DL could have opened up a chance for a call-up with the 24-year-old prospect. Analysis: Morton has been outstanding in Triple-A, going 5-2 with a 2.05 ERA and a .181 batting-average against. He has 72 strikeouts in 79 innings and looks ready to make the jump into a contender's rotation.
Looks like we're pullin out all ths stops. I dont expect too much out of the kid right away. Jojo Reyes and Anthony Larew were awesome in the minors before being called up mid-season. I do however like the young nucleus of arms we have with Morton, Reyes, and Jurrjens. EDIT: Jurrjens twisted his ankle while walking down the Wrigley dugout steps last night and may have to go on the DL...
Yeah I saw that. Tough spot for him, at prime time 8:00pm Sunday night ESPN spot against the LA Angels. Hopefully he does well. I'll be watching and rooting for him hard, he's a good guy.
Its gotten sad fellas. Rock bottom sad. Lucky face down drunk in a gutter sad... When Boyer came in to attempt a save with a one run lead I just knew we'd find a way to lose. Why Bobby didnt bring in Ohman to face Edmonds (whom they wouldve pinch-hit for but is still a better matchup) was another head scratcher. By far the most frustrating season ever as a Braves fan. I now know how Marlins fans feel every year...
Maybe we should keep our arms ready. One more pitcher goes down and they might give one of us a call. Frustrating only begins to describe this year.
In the article today in the paper Chipper basically called out the team, accusing some of them of not giving it their all when they're on the road. I wonder what kind of reaction, if any, there'll be to this.
I like it. Anything to get this team going. If they don't respond to Chipper I think Bobby needs to say something.
I wonder what the Vegas odds are on Bobby getting thrown out tonight against the Angels? I say hes gone by the top of the 3rd inning...
Should be a good series this weekend. Im going to tonights game to watch Jo Jo Reyes pitch. I played on his high school team. I usually want him to do well but Im hoping Vlad takes him deep tonight
Our ****ty luck strikes again. Chipper takes a batting practice foul ball off his face. No fracture though. And we finally won a game without him.
Looks like Chipper is going to be ok, and 15 hits without him is nice. If we were an AL team it would be pretty scary to see how many runs we could put up on a daily basis. On another note, JoJo is quickly establishing himself as a force to be reckoned with. What a great start last night.
Hey your guy did ok last night and the Braves won 9-4. Way to go!! I'll have to start watching this guy.
Two wins from the young guys. This is encouraging. In other news, Chipper's average has plummeted to .407. He's about due for a 3 hit game.
I can't believe Atlanta won a series on the road. And against a good team. Maybe they'll wake up now and get it together.
Not to mention the 3 guys who pitched for us were not even slotted in the rotation at the beginning of the season.
That was a shame we wasted a good pitching performance yesterday. But with the way we have played on the road this year I can't be too critical of taking that series. Chipper struggled though. Hopefully he can get the average up to where it was before the injuries.
Nice game last night. Tex continues to struggle with K's, but Chipper and Frenchie both have nice games and Jurrjens was masterful. Hopefully we've kicked these road woes and can beat up on Texas.
colorado was on the road....................... kind of weird now we are winning on the road, but lost at home....
Tex got screwed on his first K. Pitch was clearly outside. And then the ump was completely behind the catcher, totally blocked from a view of the tag when Kelly slid into hom. But thankfully Chipper broke out of his little funk and like HardKore said, Jair was masterful. Our pitching continues to amaze me.
Mike Gonzalez made his first appearance in over a year tonight and picked up the save. He was hitting 94 regularly and got a few outs with his breaking ball. He was pretty intense out there. Hopefully it rubs off on the rest of the team. Reyes had another good outing. And Chipper kept the average above .400 with a solo HR. The bottom of the lineup came through with some big hits. The young guys like Infante and Blanco came through big.
Nice win tonight. JoJo is really pitching well. I LOVE Chipper swinging away and getting a base hit on 3-0 BTW.
Not sure who this HP Ump is (Angel Hernandez?) but his strike zone is bigger than Eric Gregg's! Chipper and Blanco got called on pitches 4 or 5 inches off the plate and he's been way off the plate all game.
Uggghhh, depressing. I assume Chipper's average dropped below .400 since I saw on espn's ticker that he was 0-3 at one point.
Yeah a couple strikeouts looking that were well off the plate. He shoulda pulled a Lenny Dykstra and said to the ump "Do you see what that scoreboard says? It says .400 cause I know what a ****in strike is!"
I remember Chipper either last year or a few years ago calling out an ump after a game. He said something like, "I've walked more than I've struck out many times in my career," or "I've never struck out 100 times in a season, so I know what a strike is and isn't."
Chipper Jones and Yunel Escobar both had to leave the game last night early due to injury. This stinks.
