My mock, let me know what you guys think

    2013 NFL Mock Draft
    3/19/13

    Round 1

    1. Kansas City Chiefs
    -Luke Joeckel OT Texas A&M
The chiefs have only franchised Brandon Albert and cut RT Eric Winston. Unless they sign a FA tackle I can see Andy Reid drafting a blue chip T in this years draft an #1 overall

    2. Jacksonville Jaguars
    -Dion Jordan DE/OLB Oregon
The Jags had the worst pass rush and lowest amount of sacks last year. Dion Jordan is an explosive and long DE who has a sharp angle and can get to the QB. Also is fast enough to drop into cover if need be.

    3. Oakland Raiders
    -Geno Smith QB West Virginia
Oakland has many holes left to fill, most importantly They need to find their LONG TERM answer to the Qb situation. I do not believe Carson palmer is that answer and Geno Smith fits what they are looking for in a QB over there.

    4. Philadelphia Eagles
    -Lane Johnson OT Oklahoma
I know many people think that if the eagles were to go with a tackle here it would be Eric Fisher with Joeckel off the board, but Johnson has I believe better feet and is quicker then Fisher. He also has much larger upside. With Peters health in question this is the safest and one of the most promising picks the eagles can make.

    5. Detroit Lions
    -Eric Fisher OT Central Michigan
Jeff Backus recently retired and Rieff looking like a Quality RT, The lions need to help protect their key investment in QB Matt Stafford. They also are drafting a High caliber T who could very well dominate for many years to come on the blind side.

    6. Cleveland Browns
    -Ezekiel Ansah DE/OLB BYU
The physical freak of the draft. High risk high reward. He has the potential to become an absolute monster as a 3-4 DE/OLB he reminds me of a far less polished Terrel Suggs but with a potentially higher ceiling. Learning from Kruger will help develop this young prospect hopefully for clevelands sake into a rising star.

    7. Arizona Cardinals
    -Matt Barkley QB USC
People might think this is too high for Barkley, but his number Do Not Lie. I expect him to put on an absolute clinic at his pro day and vault him back into the top 10 of the first round. Where a happily waiting Arizona Cardinals will be. This could be one of the best picks in the draft if he pans out to be the QB we saw play two years ago.

    8. Buffalo Bills
    -Keenan Allen WR Cal
This also might come to most as a shock but Keenan Allen is one of the most well rounded big bodied and sure handed receivers in this draft. While he wont blow you away with speed, he makes up for it with his size and get ups. I expect the Bills to sign a Vet QB to a 1 year deal, possibly a Kevin Kolb and draft a QB in Round 2. Allen would give the bills the ability to put stevie Johnson in the slot where he will flourish and have allen as a outside guy.

    9. New York Jets
    -Tavon Austin WR West Virginia
The Jets have close to one million holes all over the place. They could use OT,OG,DE,OLB,S,WR,QB…you name it they need it. I feel the Jets are going to stick to mark sanchez as long as Rex ryan is the HC. They could really benefit from Tavons game changing ability from both the running back kick returning and receiving aspects of the game.

    10. Tennesse Titans
    -Dee Milliner DB Alabama
The titans luck out and get the top DB in the draft this year in the ten spot. Dee will come in and start immediately for them. They have been looking to upgrade the DB position since Finnegan left for the Rams.

    11. San Diego Chargers
    -Xavier Rhodes DB Florida State
San Diego has their hands full with Peyton and the up and coming broncos to face twice a year. Xavier Rhodes has the size speed and strength to match up well against all defenders. Chargers get a nice future lock down corner.

    12. Miami Dolphins
    - Star Lotulelie DT Utah
Miami has had a great free agency thus far and still has a couple areas of concern, with this pick they can go Defensive back in Trufant, they can go DE in Jarvis Jones, WR in Corradelle Patterson, or even Kenny Vaccaro at S. Randy starks was franchised and I do not believe they will be retaining his services next year. Solia is also going to be a FA next year. With Odrick being versatile enough to play inside and de and kheeston Rhandall showing signs of promise I think drafting a future Star in Star is the way to go to make that defensive front even more scary, especially when hands in the face of Tom Brady seems to be the way to defeat the Pats.

    13. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
    -Desmond Trufant DB Washington
Trufant has be climbing the boards since the combine and has shown that his nastiness along with the speed and size can be a tremendous asset. Especially to the buccaneers who have a dire need at DB.

    14. Carolina Panthers
    -Corradelle Paterson WR Tennesse
This guy is just what Carolina needs. An Explosive playmaker for cam Newton to get the ball to. He can take the top off the defense, Go up for a jump ball, and even be handed the ball to run with. With steve smith growing old they need to find a good replacement for him.
    15. New Orleans Saints
    -Jarvis Jones DE/OLB Georgia
Wow, he dropped this far… The saints get a steal if this guy can replicate what he did in the past two seasons at Georgia. All while taking care of a need at pass rushing OLB. Jones is a great pick up especially that the saints are switching to the 3-4.

    16. St. Louis Rams
    -Bjoern Werner DE Florida State
The Rams are MAD. They didn’t have any of the top WR make it to their pick and there aren’t any standout 4-3 OLB that they need to grab here. Bjoern Is a beast and can be lined up opposite Chris Long and make their pass rush very very scary.

    17. Pittsburg Steelers
    -Barkevious Mingo DE/OLB LSU
Mingo is a very fast, high motor guy who can walk in and help replace the void left by James Harrison being released. The steelers love drafting LB that can either A. Get to the QB or B. Get out in Cover. Mingo can do both.

    18. Dallas Cowboys
    -Kenny Vaccaro S Texas
The dallas cowboys didn’t even need to trade up! They had one of the worst safety groups in the nfl and had even more trouble in the defensive back field last year. Kenny vaccaro is a high motor hard hitting playmaker at the safety position and will come in and start immediately. He is well groomed and will stay in state.

    19.New York Giants
    -Alex Ogletree ILB Georgia
The giants can use some help on the interior part of their linebackers core. Ogletree is wreckless at times but has a great motor and is always in persuit of the ballcarrier. He can come in and make tremendous plays for the g men.

    20. Chicago Bears
    -Chance Warmack OG Alabama
The bears need some serious offensive line help and Warmack falling to them at 20 is a blessing. He is a big strong mauling guard who can come in and play day 1. They need to keep Jay cutler Upright and the first step to doing that is having interior offensive line help to help alleviate pressure from the inside.

    21. Cincinnati Bengals
    -Menelik Watson OT Florida State
Andre smith is a FA and so is their RT. They either need to trade up to secure a blue chipper or be satisfied with the potential of Watson. He protected EJ manuals blind side and did a damn good job doing so.

    22. St. Louis Rams
    -Johnathan Cooper OG North Carolina
Cooper is the second best guard prospect out there and will fill another hole on Jeff Fishers Offensive line. He is an underated blocker and an all around solid Guard.

    23. Minnesota Vikings
    -Arthur Brown ILB Kansas State
Arthur brown is a quick and explosive force on the inside. One of the most consistant LB behind Teo. He makes plays and works hard on each play. He is a great pick up here at 23 for a Vikings LB core that is non existent.

    24.Indianapolis Colts
    -Damontre Moore DE/OLB Texas A&M
The colts are probably going to lose Dwight freeny to free agency and need to replace him with a younger stud. Moore can be a force to be reckoned with rushing from the outside. He will fit in well to the system in place there in indy.

    25. Minnesota Vikings
    -Justin Hunter WR Tennessee
Justin hunter will come in and be the new randy moss for the Vikings. Hunter is a track star and an absolute gazelle when it comes to flying down the field. He will be a nice compliment to the addition of Greg Jennings.

    26. Green Bay Packers
    - Tyler Eifert TE Notre Dame
Finley just hasn’t blossomed into the TE that everyone has been thinking for the past 4 years. His time is just about up in GB. Eifert is a stud receiving TE that is an average blocker. Luckily GB doesn’t really use their TE’s to block.

    27. Houston Texans
    -Robert Woods WR USC
Robert woods is a poor mans Keenan allen, a little smaller, a little faster, a little worse hands. But he has been on the first round radar for two years now. He is still a good receiver and should flourish in the Houston system across from Andre Johnson.

    28. Denver Broncos
    -Datone Jones DE/OLB UCLA
Denver plain F*cked Up. Elvis has left the building 7 min late. Unless hes going to be a nice guy he is out of Denver. Datone jones is a stand up or hand in the dirt rush LB and can fill in where Elvis left.

    29. New England Patriots
    -Matt Elam SS Florida
The patriots defense is not what it used to be. Chung is out and they need a replacement. Matt Elam is a ball hawk and a Hard hard hitter. Probably hits harder then any defensive back in the country. The Patriots have plenty of holes to fill and they might as well start with a center fielder.

    30. Atlanta Falcons
    - Shariff Floyd DT Florida
(I missed him before this edit) while Floyd is a very very good player and many mocks I've seen have him in the top 10 I just don't think compared to some of the previous teams needs and also who I've seen the teams interviewing I think Floyd is one of the guys who falls this year. Luckily the dirty bird catch him at the end of the first round and help reestablish the d line and pass rush.

    31. San Fransisco 49ERS
    - Margus Hunt DE SMU
Hunt is built like a titan, he plays like a fairy though… coach Harbaugh will be able to bring the beast out of him and let him loose on opposing QB. Justin Smith is nearing the end of his amazing career and Hunt will be an excellent replacement if he can improve his block shedding.

    32. Baltimore Ravens
    -Manti Te’o ILB Notre Dame
How is your girlfriend? Ohh not so good she died. So sorry to hear that Manti. Yea she was fake Psych! Even though this guy has some serious skeletons in the closet, he has been nothing short of incredible at LB. What not a better way for the draft to go for Baltimore going from one Hall of fame LB to a potential great linebacker.

    To finish the Dolphins draft…

    @42. Johnathan Banks CB Mississippi
    @54. Johnathan Cyprein SS FIU
    @77 Justin Pugh OT Syracuse
    @82 Travis Kelce TE Cincinnati

Whooaa. As I absolutely DESPISE the Raiduhs, I hope they take Geno Smith that early.

I don't think that Eiffert makes it that far. IF they do, I hope seriously work to move up and get him.

As much as I really respect the game of Lotulelie, I would be much much happier with us going after Trufant there....plus, it is a much bigger need at the moment.

Not a bad mock. Some very good reasoning in your write ups. You have done lots of work there  Nice job!!!

Though it isn't a huge need, I would love to have star. To good to pass up IMO. Like the rest of our draft too, not bad.

Thanks man! I'm gonna go back and do another edit of this a couple days before the draft. Last year I nailed the first 8 or 9 picks even with the Dallas trade. I appreciate the kind words sir!

Yea I'm pretty high on star, I feel the same about him being too good to pass up. What a humble kid too, family, from what I've seen interviews well and stays far away from trouble. Would be a great addition to the professionalism that philbin is trying to establish here.

I thought LB for the bears as well but top guard is pretty tough to pass up especially when they had issues with it last year. And Manti did look good today but Arthur brown looked great at his PD too.

thing is, they have their Qb and have poured $$ into the OL, their Defense though, has aged and they let Urlacher walk.

Chicago is one of those teams that like a "star" sort of MLB.

Also very true! They can use safety help along with DB and OLB as well to find a replacement for Briggs. I just figured garza is almost done with his long great career and they have sunk the money into OT and yes can look for help in later rounds on the interior but I just thought warmack was great value at 20.

also the bears could very well look To our very own ex LB dansby...

Thanks for the write up. Even in disagreement it is helpful to go through these as it challenges and sharpens and helps expose one to what they think about these players. Couple thoughts:

I can't imagine Matt Barkley going that high. I don't think he belongs in round 1, honestly.

Also, Floyd was pretty awesome this year. And Greg Cosell said he thinks Floyd may be the best football player in the draft. I would be surprised if he gets out of the top 6-8.

I also can see the Jets going for Tavon. That would suck, but I think Austin may go top 10. Miami will have trouble getting him at 12.

I also think you are right about Keenan Allen going pretty hight. Great route runner. Smooth. Someone (maybe Cosell) likened him to Reggie Wayne - I'd take Reggie Wayne at 8!

Personally I'd prefer Cooper at OG to Star for Miami. And, if both Floyd and Star were there, I'd take Floyd, jmo.

Trust me I wouldn't want Barkley for our very own dolphins if we needed a QB, but his numbers the past two years have been great, even with many of his teammates leaving in the draft. Pro style QB with solid size speed and decision making, he is a 100% football guy. I think he's worth a late first, but the cards situation at QB last year was one of the worst I've seen in football..

agree to disagree on Floyd yes he is a very good player, I just felt when rumbling through the teams and their needs that the only one before the dirty birds would have been the rams or broncos who would go for him. I just see a very deep and talented first round with only a couple of standouts. This years first round I have a feeling will be one of the most difficult to predict.

keenan Allen compared to Wayne is a first for me to hear and I enjoy that comparison as well I think it's very accurate.

I know Austin to the jets is not what people want to hear but something to me is just screaming that they feel the need to hit on a bunch of players this year and starting off with the most versatile player in the draft would be ideal for them.

I like Star & Banks. But Jarvis Jones falls out of the 1st? No way we don't trade up and snatch him if we see him slipping too far.

I honestly have to ask. How did you feel about Tannehill going at 8 last year?

Also, I saw LOTS of Keenan. Dude is Smmooooooth as silk, and mature well beyond his year. ....but a little bird in my head tells me he is going to be one of these oft-injured pros. The guy that can control a game, when he is able to play. Hate to see it to. From all accounts, he is one of the better character guys you will meet.

You've hit on my 2nd biggest fear in this draft. #1, I worry that Austin is on the board, and Jeff does not take him, and #2, I worry the Bills or Jets take him before he gets to us and we have to play him twice a year.

austin going to another team would be tough to swallow...but him going to the stinking jets is the absolute nightmare scenario....damn that would be a disaster to root against him for 16 games a season....

You know the answer. That would suck big time. You must be a masochist to entertain such thoughts.
If Tavon ended up in the AFC East on another team than Miami, I'd definitely be looking at drafting Tyrann Mathieu and Nickell Robey both.

I have one really huge problem with this mock and most mocks out there.

How many Jason Peters reports have to be made public before you guys are going to get this?

Jason Peters was medically cleared to play last December. The Eagles wisely didn't activate him from that new IR thing but nevertheless he was cleared. He has been working out all winter with nothing but good reports and he will not miss, or be limited in any way during OTA's.

Jason Peters health is not in question at all, and before his injury he was generally thought of as the best LT in the NFL.

No team in the history of the draft has ever drafted a RT in the top 10, never ever.

In addition to that, the Eagles are transitioning to a 3-4 defense and they didn't really have the personnel to do so. They have needs in every aspect of their defense. I mean like, huge gaping holes.

Please stop mocking OT's to the Eagles with the #4 pick.

Yes, they may draft a RT prospect somewhere in the draft but they are in no position to draft RT with their precious 4th pick.

It is far more likely that Jags don't draft another undersized DE, and that Jordan goes to the Eagles to play OLB in their 3-4.

Chip Kelley is on the record saying that he loves Dion Jordan as a player and a person.

The Eagles are strong candidates to sign a RT. They have lots of cap remaining.

Jarvis Jones would be my pick but I wouldn't complain about Star. I think if the draft shaped up that way we'd be choosing between Star, Jones and Trufant.
