Pacman Jones re-signs with the Bengals. I guess they're keeping Marshall and Patterson :/

Grimes appears to be the main target, and with new emphasis on zone coverage it would be good to get to know the corners in the draft that excel in that system. Armando's article this morning on Miami's supposed view on Rhodes is that he is not an idea fit in the zone, which prompts my interest in those guys who would be a fit.

Pre or post when Sparano changed the blocking scheme back to primarily zone blocking?

Miami wants Moore and Winston cause they are desperate to move to a true zone blocking OL which Moore/Winston seem to excel at. With Moore though you got to draft a guard and groom him to take one of those guard spots next year when Moore's another year older and Incognito is a FA.

Banks (MSU) and Taylor (Boise St.) are two of the highest ranked "zone" type corners. If any of you want to add your choices for "zone" corners please do so.

D.J. Hayden would be ideal for what they want to do. He's one of the few guys in this draft I feel like can make plays closing on the football in that style of defense. But he's also got the ability to come up and play man.

As I've been saying for a while there are very few corners in this Draft I'd take over him if healthy. The only guy I'd for sure take is Dee Milliner, and after that Xavier Rhodes/Desmond Trufant becomes the tougher question.

Another thing to keep in mind regarding CBs for Miami is their ability in run support. If you're using your WLB to blitz a lot, that puts a premium on the weak-side CB being able to make plays in the running game.

I think Jamar Taylor of Boise State fits that niche pretty well in terms of the best "Zone" CBs in the draft. Pretty solid player all around and has some decent size to him.

True. That's part of why I think Antoine Winfield would be a great fit despite his age. Not instead of drafting someone, but in addition to it. Charles Woodson is ancient but I'm not convinced he can't still be effective in a zone heavy system. In this depressed CB market and with their age, I'd think Winfield and woodson would be pretty cheap. Probably cheaper than the caps hits we are facing on Marshall and Patterson.

Problem with Dansby is he thinks he is way better than what he is. But the fact teams aren't beating down his door shows you Jeff wasn't afraid to admit his mistake n move on.

I believe Alen1 reported that Dansby had something like 5 teams call him immediately after he was cut.

Just because he's not signed yet doesn't mean he's not coveted. He didn't expect to be on the market. He may very well be taking his time making a decision because he didn't expect any of this and therefore hadn't put any thought into it.

Not free agency related, but important non the less on the DE/pass rusher front.

Georgia OLB Jarvis Jones completed an official forty time of 4.92 seconds during the school's pro day.
Some will point to this time as a reason for Jones "falling", but we believe this speed shows up on tape. Jones wins with snap anticipation and a great motor to work around the edge, but we question if he might be limited to that role early in his career due to a lack of a counter move. Jones also completed 20 bench press reps and a 9 foot, 3 inch broad jump, which would've tied for the worst among Combine participants. There is some buzz that Jones tweak a hamstring on his first run, but he isn't the athlete some made him out to be.

I wonder who wrote this. The final line seems like typical straw man stuff. Everyone's been saying for a long time that Jarvis Jones is not going to be a good workout guy, will time slow, etc.

I posted the source on the other posts. It was Seth Emerson on twitter, as posted on rotoworld.com under NFL Draft. I agree that there were indications he would not test well, and this appears to be evident.

THE Ted Ginn signed in Carolina, which looks very much like his last shot at doing anything.

Interesting with Newton at Qb and Ginn's speed.

If they could get Werner at 12, then trade back up to get Jones that would be a big boost on defense. Ck do you see a Chase Thomas, Travardo Williams, Sean Porter as players who could potential replace Misi as well?

Are Richard Marshall and Dmitri Patterson zone CBs? If they're not that whole Kevin Coyle-zone scheme BS goes out the window.

I could actually see that working out for maybe 2 or 3 touchdonws this year. Newton scares the **** out of defenders when he's scrambling and it's hard to stay plastered to the receivers when that happens. He has a cannon for an arm and is actually really accurate deep.

Not big on any of the three.

Nor am I in a hurry to replace Koa Misi. I think the Dolphins MAY see an opportunity in particular with Jarvis Jones but that doesn't mean they're open for business for any Tom, Dick or Harry (or Sean, Chase or Trevardo as it were) to bump Koa Misi off the depth chart.

I have heard Patterson was considered a zone guy. Not sure about Marshall. Would make sense if they both are.

I'd think they would consider Patterson more of a nickel guy, so I think the zone coverage theory has legs. I'd think a guy like Jamar Fletcher, Jordan Poyer (not a big fan of his, but I see scheme fit), and the kid from Houston CK's been banging the drum for, Hayden? would all be good fits.

Seems like the plan is to have Patterson as the slot corner and Marshall as the #2. Now we just need a #1. Ireland drafted Terence Newman 10 years or so ago, wonder if he'd consider him as a 1-2 year band aid while a couple of rookies get their sea legs under them.

I think Newman's more suited to man-to-man play. I've got my eye on Jamar Taylor, Jordan Poyer (not a big fan, but schematically he fits), Darius Slay, and D.J. Hayden in the draft.

I think Marshall and Nolan Carroll would be an interesting camp battle. R.J. Stanford also got more play later in the year as well. With Marshall's cap number and the injury last year, I feel somewhat shaky about him going into 2013.

Jason Taylor says that Eric Winston is a borderline starter, average, wouldn't sign him if he was in charge.

Isn't that better than what we have at RT?

Maybe not give him a big deal but, still. "Borderline starter, average," seems like an upgrade at OT right now for Miami! :)

He's a stop gap for this year or next so we can be free to draft other slots. Also, in our system, who knows; perhaps he will play better and be back to his form at Houston.
