I am so ready this year. Even making a return to fantasy baseball after a 5 year hiatus. Pretty excited to listen to Sox games again on my way home from work.
I'm pretty excited to see Sox minor leaguer Shaq Thompson sticking to baseball after going 0-39 in the minors last year with 37 K's. Can only go up from here (I hope for his shake).
It's official Casey Kelly is getting TJ surgery. Too bad he didn't get it last year instead of trying to rehab it (still don't understand why teams wait and try to see if it heals on its own). Hoping for the best.
Looks like JBJ is going to start the year with the Sox. I'm pretty surprised by this but if Ortiz wasn't injured I bet he wouldn't have. Oh well he just needs to spend 20 days in the minors at any point in the season in order for the Sox to gain an extra year of service time. Obviously it's a catch 22 because if he's playing well and hitting the ball, or there's another injury to an OFer, it's going to be hard to send him down. But hey I'm excited for the JBJ Era.
yea sometimes teams are overly cautious with guys, I say play them..... if they can play, play them....Bradley can play, so why not? It will put a little fire under Elsbury too I bet....
Yeah it was only one game but there was a lot to like from the team yesterday from Lester to the bullpen to the hustle on the field and on the bases. If this team plays like that each day they will not only win back fans but win a lot of baseball games. Good start to the season so far.
He's starting the year in Double A, after playing in 23 games there at the end of the 2012 season, so assuming he continues to hit well this year and doesn't have any setbacks in terms of poor performance and health he might be a September call up, depending on the 40 man roster size and any trade deadline deals and how the team is playing. Of course a lot depends on the health at the MLB level as Stephen Drew, when healthy, is the starter and Iglesias is next in line. Like JBJ, the Sox aren't going to call him up if he's no playing everyday. Put it this way if he's up before August it's because he's been absolutely outstanding in the minors or things with the MLB team have gone horribly wrong. If all goes well then it's entirely possible he's the Sox everyday SS in 2014. He's not far away but can use a few months at the upper levels in the minors to make adjustments. And if all goes right that 2014 and 2015 Red Sox team could be very young and very good with JBJ, Bogaerts, Webster, RDLR, Barnes, WMB etc.
Cancel the rest of the season, Sox all alone in 1st place, undefeated. Woooo! Seriously though, another good game with this team between the pitching (minus Aceves), good hustle, good and long at bats. You can already tell this team is much much from last year already. You can just see it in the way the players are acting in the dugout with each other (that actually look like they're happy and like each other) and granted they were winning both games so everyone is happy when that happens but it's just a much welcomed change. Does that mean they will be good all year? Who knows but I'm enjoying the ride right now.
That bothers me just as much but I figured the Yankees have to play Houston a few times this year so it was only a matter of time before they won a game.
Poor Lackey, he was really dealing and looked pretty damn good. Hopefully it's nothing major but I'd be shocked if he didn't re-tear his UCL.
Buchholz is fine and Doubront has pretty good potential as long as he throws strikes and limits his pitch count (easier said than done). And I think Dempster will be at least average and give them innings. It stinks that it's in April because the Sox do have replacements in Webster and De La Rosa but they won't be ready until Juneish. The Sox are saying it was just a cramp in his arm and he'll be fine. He's getting a MRI today but I'll believe he's fine when he's back on the mound.
That looked like a pretty bad cramp, but yeah it probably was just like Middlebrooks looked like he snapped his wrist off and is fine....Then you have old man Tex where NOBODY sees his injury and he is out until May
Great road trip to start the year going 4-2 in NY and Toronto and beating Sabathia, Josh Johnson and Dickey. Very impressive. It was important they get off to a good start to erase some of the smell of last year. Hopefully they team gets big cheers tomorrow at Fenway.
Beating Dickey is eh. The guy stinks. I don't care what the stats were last year. The Mets did an excellent job moving him. Good GM'ing right there
I agree it was the best time for them to move him and they got back a good package but he doesn't stink. And even if he has a poor year, it's still a confidence builder for the Sox to beat good pitchers early in the year.
He does, he had some good years in the NL padding those stats against weak lineups.... He got trashed in the AL, and will continue to do so.... CC and Johnson sure you have a point there Fink.
It's only been two starts, so it's a bit early to be writing Dickey off saying he's a NL only pitcher. The problem with a knuckleballer is of course if you don't have the pitch working for you you're going to get hit and most likely hard and the game can get away from you quickly. Dickey was probably left in way too long due to the Jays pen being taxed for the first 6 games of the season already.
everybody gets lucky for a game or 2..... sh%t even Mark Sanchez has good stats in the playoffs....Toronto is a hitters dream of a ballpark, expect more to come....
Great news, glad for him...... You have to worry about how effective he can be this year however.....when right he is a good pitcher....
I'm not saying he's going to be great or even good this year, because you never know with a knuckler, but to say he stinks "no matter what the stats" say, is silly.
Yeah definitely good news for Lackey, it really would have sucked for him if it was serious. I'm just hoping he gives the Sox 180 league average innings this year, anything more is a plus.
5 and 2! Buchholz looked good again today. If Lester and Buchholz pitch like this all year, along with the pen they have....
Even though the MRI came back clean the Sox placed Lackey on the DL today. Aceves will start in his place on Thursday, the Sox called up RHRP Alex Wilson. Smart to play it safe with Lackey this early in the year and also to see whether Aceves has anything at all left in his tank. Also interested to see how Wilson pitches, as he was once labeled a possible "closer of the future". Sox also sent down Iglesias and activated Stephen Drew. Also I think it's safe to give up hope on Daniel Bard ever being a good MLB pitcher again. Yes SSS but he's been pretty bad in the minors this year already. Too bad. But at least the Sox were able to squeeze 2.5 good years out of him before he lost control of the strike zone again.
Yes he did, a lot of pitchers do and sometimes position players though it's much rarer. Injuries are part of the game unfortunately.
