agree to disagree, Alex. You're apples to oranges here. No one is suggesting we need to operate like the team of old, change the offense & defense, etc. If we win a Super Bowl wearing a traditional uniform the credit won't go to the teams of the 70's.

According to your logic we should change the uniform/logo routinely so that as the team is altered it will remain separately identifiable, kinda like a uniform within a uniform. Philbin, Tannehill, & Co don't need a changed, modernized uniform to create their own history. They'll do that on the field. A traditional uniform is a way of preserving history while current players are busy creating their own, and if they succeed, it all melds together just as a history-rich team should.

I respect your opinion for sure...I mean anything art related ultimately IS an opinion to the bitter end. I just don't see what a logo has to do with tradition though. Now if we changed the team NAME that would be unacceptable, but all we did was change a visual aspect.

It looks more appropriate for a tropical smoothie stand, tanning salon, or dive shop than an NFL football team IMO. BTW, what dolphins have you seen that look like this one? Aqua, navy, and white with perfectly uniform striping down the body and white eyes? I've never seen those. :p The '74-89 dolphin minus the helmet looks more realistic than this one IMO.

You know I don't mean it looks 100% natural.

To be honest though as I said before I think the old logos before our last are REALLY ugly. The white patches all over it look terrible and I'm pretty sure one is meant to be some sort of mutant eyebrow to make it look angry. The new one, while obviously not 100% accurate in shading or coloring, in my opinion looks cool enough. I like the eye and body pose.

Now feminine would be like...putting some starfish and a crab under him swimming through the ocean...and hey....what if our logo is actually a she-dolphin?

It's really not opinion relative to the logo's aesthetic, symmetry, use of color/contrast. However, some people's ability to appreciate those aspects of art are reduced to their relative non-exposure to art that requires the ability to recognize it.

Here is a hi-res version of the leaked logo...

It is a vast improvement over the current dolphin logo. Anyone who says this looks wimpier than a Mickey Mouse dolphin wearing a helmet must be tripping...

No I think it's still opinion.

Just because the art world got together and decided certain things were "better" doesn't mean they actually are. Something can be considered better in a technical way but that is still opinion and not an absolute.

It's like guitar players who think they are the best because they play very technical and difficult riffs even though they sound like crap compared to people who are far less technically able but better able to put sounds together in an enjoyable fashion.

Basically everything on Earth that can not be universally observed, recorded and agreed upon is an opinion.

Fair enough, brobeans. I'm not trying to force aspects of tradition down peoples' throats. It's obviously a choice. What I have a problem with is when people believe tradition is stupid or for scared people when in fact some of us take pride and joy in maintaining certain traditions.Tradition is all around us, more so in the Eastern World than here obviously, and it's not b/c of being afraid to change; it's b/c it's an identifiable part of us that we want to keep that way.... b/c of pride, respect, and love, not fear. I'm 38 now so I appreciate tradition much more so than when I was in my 20's b/c like I said, in a world that's constantly changing it's refreshing to have a few things that remain unchanged.

But you can't discount the fact that visual aspects do in fact play a big role in tradition. Look at Japanese tattoo art for a quick reference.

wait, just wanna be clear, are you suggesting that anyone who doesn't like the logo's aesthetics, symmetry, and use of color/contrast lack the ability to recognize art?

Your right, it is a pretty looking dolphin and pose, it just doesn't look like its enough on the helmet, to naked, the white makes it empty, maybe if they changed the color of the helmet to some cool aqua color, idk, I'll keep looking but when I see it on a white helmet it doesn't look full enough.

Definitely not discounting things like that. I just don't think that way in terms of sports teams. I don't think it carries the same level of honor as the tradition of an entire culture.

I mean the last logo change was extremely drastic as well. I bet people hated that at first but a few years later I'm willing to bet that no-one really cared.

I know when I'm watching games whether they be old school or last season I don't even look at the logo unless it's shown pregame next to the opponents. I watch the players...and I'm sure everyone else does too. The logo doesn't make the team.

You do realize that the current dolphins also has a white underbelly just like the new one, right? In fact, it almost has more white space, because the white helmet on the dolphin looks like the dolphin has a giant hole in its head at certain distances...

This isn't the latest leaked logo. This one has that tribal band looking sun which looks tacky as hell. The latest has a straight pointy spiky looking sun.

True, this is the sun from the first leaked logo, which I prefer. Its a shame they updated it to the pointier sun, but I will wait to see the full thing before making judgement.

We don't know... We have no clue what the helmet will look like... It could be just a blank white helmet with no stripes for all we know. In such a case, this logo would look fine.

Yes, I think it kind of has a seahawks vibe... If they align it the right way, I think it could look good. Certainly better than the current logo in any case...

If I had my way, I would have something simpler, similar to my avatar. But most people would hate that too, so it is what it is...

but you have so much white inside the sun part, then the whole helmet is white, I just don't see enough color, and I don't like the position of the tail..

Tweak the uniform here and there occasionally like other teams do but leave the helmet alone IMO.

It is really a tough task to create a logo for a football team with the following constraints:

    1. Use aqua and orange colors
    2. Incorporate a dolphin
    3. Incorporate a sun

It is nearly impossible to make this look "TOUGH" to satiate the macho crowd, and professional at the same time. In addition, a dolphin is a long creature, so any logo shape will likely won't be very symmetrical or fitting of a square space. The colors also aren't very "tough"...

It is a tough task. Given those constraints, I think they did a pretty decent job with the new one.

In all honesty, this team should have just used a giant M as its logo since its inception. But it was the 60s, and the AFL was trying to appeal to a younger crowd, so a goofy, helmet-wearing dolphin jumping across the sun was a fit... But that kind of logo just doesn't having staying power. It looks hokey and dated. A classic M logo never would have gone out of style (ala Green Bay, Chicago, etc.)

I don't know...I think teams with a letter as their logo look absolutely ridiculous. Nostalgic doesn't equal good.

Well to be fair I don't mind the lettering on helmets but I think they should have an alternate logo they use for everything else aside from the helmet.

I personally think it would look better maybe with some added grey instead of the navy, always liked the look of the grey face mask as well. I haven't been a fan of the navy since they introduced it a while back.

Chicago does this, and it works for them... They have the wishbone C on the helmet, and use a Bear face logo for other material.

This place would burn to the ground if they did something daring as having navy jerseys. Mainly for the road obviously since that is when we wear the darks a majority of the time.
Wouldn't that be a kick in the ***. White helmet. White facemask. Navy jerseys and that thing they call a new logo. :wink2:

I think it does to a degree just b/c of how much fans love their NFL teams.... and if we maintain a traditional look over time, the more it will grow to mean to most of us.... but you have to maintain tradition for it to mean something. What if 50 years from now we still feature the same logo as the '72 one above? Won't the tradition of it have a greater impact than it currently does b/c of how much time will have passed? Unfortunately you have to put in the time to create the tradition before the tradition can fully exist. Personally, I'd rather look at this team 50 years from now and take pride in the fact we maintained tradition rather than look back at change after change after change that ended up having no meaning at all.
Right, so then what's the point of changing for the sake of change when in a few years people will care less that we even changed it at all? Why not allow the fans who enjoy tradition to continually enjoy tradition rather than "change, get bored; change again, get bored again; repeat"?
Then philosophically speaking you might as well say nothing makes the team, that we're all in love with an idea of a team that's merely tied together by it's colors, location, and logo/uni design. By what you're saying, if history, color, logo, and uniforms don't make the team and we've experienced a constantly changing roster and have moved to a different stadium, then we might as well pick and choose whichever team we want to follow on a yearly basis b/c there'd be nothing left to keep us a Dophins fan. If we like how the Packers do things then we should just switch over to being Packers fans.

I love this team because I was born in South Florida and have lived here my entire life. If I was born in NY I'd be a Giants fan...or YUCK a Jets fan.

On orange unis: That's 100% what I thought you'd say, I personally love them

Because the current logo has the look of a rejected Disney cartoon. As a grown man, I feel like a goofball wearing gear with that logo.

For people who like tradition, wear your throwback gear. What's so bad about that? You can still have your tradition... But face reality. Change is the only constant in the universe... Embrace it.
