I'm 21, and I agree fully with everything MrClean said, except I like the new logo. The only thing that I honestly disliked, design-wise, from the franchise were those navy jerseys in the early 2000's.

I can't find any images of them in-game, so perhaps they were never used, but I do recall seeing them in stores when I was younger.

Did I create it or did it already exist and I just happened to let it out? <--- Sort of messing with you there.

Let me further clarify myself...no abstract human creation such as art can ever be objective because there is no way for it to be verified and agreed upon by every (right minded) person or intelligent entity.

If you showed that sentence to every human and intelligent species in the universe it could be universally agreed that I formed it. That is not abstract at all. Now if you show a logo to every human being on Earth you will never receive an entirely objective conclusion. Even execution is an abstract concept we have created. If you were to speak with every entity in the universe about proper execution as well you would receive numerous answers simply based upon the way our brains are constructed to receive and create thoughts about data input.

In other words: Execution lies entire in the eye of the beholder as well. Now if you want to say "Based upon what is generally accepted in the art community, this logos is much better from a technical standpoint" I'll endorse that 100%.

I just refuse to ever speak in absolutes on matters of opinion.

No, what you are saying is akin to marrying an overweight girl and telling her it is OK for her to be overweight because she has always been overweight and that even if she wants to lose weight, she shouldn't because of the tradition.

What I am saying, if a woman wants to lose weight, she should.

Tradition is an excuse to keep mediocre.

Another mistake (IMO) was when the team went to 2 aqua stripes down the pants instead of the original orange.

Btw, the Dolohins never wore a navy jersey, it was just a "show" jersey for fans to buy.

I don't get this... When I look at the eye, I see the navy part as being part of the shading of the OUTSIDE of the eye, not the pupil.. Dolphins don't have big white eyes with pupils... I think just the white space is supposed to represent the eye (even though it is not correct dolphin anatomy), giving it a blank, intimidating look like when you see in movies where a person gets possessed by a demon.

Yeah, the blue jerseys were an alternate color never used in a game.Think it was more for $$ purposes but they sold well.
The full Orange jerseys are still pretty neat. Would like them if they had this logo.

My opinion is this is nicest one I've seen and it has the navy blue in it also.

Is "right minded" an objective quality? I believe so, if it is rooted in what is perfect aesthetic and beauty- otherwise those terms are meaningless (subjective).

Isn't it your opinion that abstract human creations cannot ever be objective? That sounds like an absolute to me, so you contradict yourself in your final sentence... you are stating as absolute what is your opinion which you say you would never do.

To add on to this, pappy: I'd take more pride & joy in having our hand drawn '72 logo with all it's subtle incongruities & flaws than a computer generated one that strives for perfection. Like you said, it's a piece of art, and IMO a subtle flaw here and there in art lend it character.

Whether you like the logo or not is subjective, absolutely. However, graphics designers have standards of execution that are entirely objective. The old logos fail, massively, those standards.

Exactly. Real art work, drawn by hand by a real artist. Norman Rockwell must be turning over in his grave at the thought of computer generated art. The old master sure did just fine, using his hands and his eyes to create some of the finest artwork the world has ever known.

The team was perfect but the logo shouldn't be?

As I said before, people will literally say anything, weave any manner of mental gymnastics to avoid change and insignificantly embrace tradition. it is human nature.

I mean the argument has now become anything not drawn correctly is real art now. lol.

How is something like consistent line weight subjective? If something like that is subjective, then ISO 9001 standards for manufacturing are as well.

I dropped out of the discussion when the arguments became unbearably ridiculous. It's one thing to just not like the look of something. That's completely subjective. But the false arguments are annoying. "Dolphins don't look like that", except that they actually look exactly like that. "Dolphins don't jump like that", except that they do, a lot, arguably most of the time. "There are no standards b/c aliens might have different standards" ???? IMO some people should just admit to themselves that they are just resistant to change. It doesn't mean that that they're bad or less in any way. It doesn't mean that they may not embrace other types of change. It just means that on this particular subject they are not objective. They're free to say that subjectively they don't like something or that they just prefer the old logo even though objectively it was a crappy drawing. Why is that so hard to admit? Not everybody will agree with your tastes. I never got that thing where kids would wear pants with half of their underwear showing or country music or a slew of other things that have become popular. That's life.

Article about the Browns possibly changing uniforms, but some tidbits that may give insight on what we're currently going through.

"Minor changes, done without market research, would have resulted in a 12-month process overseen by NFL marketing. He(CLE owner Jimmy Haslam) thought the new uniforms would be ready for the 2014 season."

"But after further consultation with the league, Haslam decided to go through the more extensive, 24-month process recommended by experts in the field of brand marketing."

“This allows you to change anything you want. That doesn’t mean we will. I want to be perfectly clear about that. We just want to get a lot of input from our fans and take our time with it. Because you can do it only every five years.” - Haslam

“Ultimately, (the uniform is) the expression of the club and the brand the fan is most familiar with,” Waller said. “They wear them. They buy them. And it’s the strongest identity they have other than the game itself. So it’s a hugely important piece of work. And from the league perspective, our league rules are you can only change once every five years. So you’ve got to get it right.” - Mark Waller, NFL chief marketing officer
