It's not that simple. Counting Grimes, we have 7 FAs next year. Grimes is not the clear-cut franchise player among them: Soliai and Starks, both of whom Ireland tagged, are FAs next year. The franchise tag is a last ditch effort, not the desired result.
Wow.... just Wow..... What a great Graphic... Now, if it would not seem so appropriate for a few folks I know........ Everywhere!!!!
No, we don't. The contracts that Ireland issued this year all have huge spikes in year 2. Mike Wallace's 2014 cap number will be $17.2 million. Ellerbe will be $7.4 million. Wheeler will be $6.4 million. Hartline will be $6.2 million. Matt Moore will be $4 million.
on his page we have like close to 10 million and that is still with dansby and burnett on there, who will clear around 15 million more and there is always a change we roll something over from this year too http://overthecap.com/teamcap.php?Team=Dolphins&Year=2014
Impossible to say right now because we don't know the 2014 salary cap. Right at this moment we're at $114 million for 2014. (Note that Dansby and Burnett were designated as post-June 1 cuts, so they're still on our books and thus count until after June 1, 2013.) Whatever salary cap space we roll over from this season will be used to partially offset the year 2 contract spikes. See the above paragraph. Whatever salary cap space we roll over will be used to offset the year 2 spikes. It won't be used to issue new big money deals. Grimes, if he plays to his potential, will make a big money deal. He'll likely be the top CB in next year's FA class. You're also forgetting that we need cap space to sign rookies, and we need to leave some left over to sign players in-season to replace injured players. $10 million of leftover cap is actually entirely spoken for; most of that goes to rookies, the rest is reserved for street FA signings or waiver wire acquisitions.
We'll have enough cap space to sign one of Starks/Soliai and maybe Devlin if they want to keep him. That's all we need to do considering who our Free Agents are.
They say his wife is nuts. Checked out her twitter. It did not unconvince me of their argument. Lol. Selects: "Judge me! I really give zero ****s what you complete strangers think. #TeamGrimey all day!" (Pic of her on toilet w kid) "Tryna drop my morning/pre game deuce. Aiden has no chill! #MommyStruggles t.co/qGzuSEVyKC" Other general stuff about going "full ******" and sex, lots about being a wife and Mom (like winning the wife of the year award by buying him a colt .45 handgun) Wheeee!
Let's assume all our FAs walk next year. We'll need two starting DTs, one starting CB, and one starting SS. That's a huge order to fill for one FA period, and I wouldn't trust the draft to produce four acceptable starters all at once.
Jarvis Jones at 12 makes all sorts of sense if you prioritize big plays on defense. Banks in the second.
Considering that we paid Grimes LESS than Sean Smith and this really is a coup for Jeff Ireland. Now you hope out medical staff and doctors got it right.
Imo, he'll be ready by camp no problem, I would say he's at 90%, some of the drills he was doing were demanding as hell on the arch, I didn't see any loss of flexion, and the boy will always have mad hops as he showed..I'm excited for the addition of his athleticism, we needed it, and we needed to rid ourselves of the overall style of Sean smith..upgrade easy.
Hey Fin???.. Buddy ole pal...there some iso videos of grimes on YouTube, but it's telling me that is not available on my device, for old times sake?
Grimes is a easy player to cheer for, big upgrade over Sean Smith. Our defense can be very scary next season... damn I can not wait.
Kind of surprising he'd turn a chance to live and work in the garden spot of America known as Cleveland.

Love what Ireland is doing, we have beaten that man to a pulp the past couple years and rightfully so. But he is righting the ship in a big way IMO.
He wouldn't be in a position to do what he is currently doing if he hadn't done a lot of what he was criticized for.
I'm glad you're seeing the light, but you were still wrong about the pre-Philbin era. None of this would have ever happened with Parcells as Ireland's boss, because the players we're signing are not Parcells type players. It really and truly is that simple. Ireland needs a blueprint to follow.
I hear ya. I just don't think its necessary. Yeah, we had nothing at WR and a rookie playing QB. I think we should build on what we did last year instead of scrapping it and moving to a pass happy attack with a promising but still inexperienced QB. Continue to strengthen the run game, add a much better play action attack with Keller and Wallace. More depth with Gibson, Bess, an emerging (IMO) Matthews, sigh, and The Hitman. Im hoping one of the OTs is available at 12, if not BPA all day. No trade ups, a trade down if anything. If the BPA is Austin then I have no issue with it. We could fill up a thread on how to use him in no time flat. But IMO there are better players out there. I'm worried about Tannehill getting his *** handed to him behind a soup sandwich OL. I'm worried about Lamar Miller and Daniel Thomas at RB. Neither guy has ever shown they can handle more than a few carries at a time. I'm worried that Soliai and Starks are in the final year of their deals, as are Keller, Clemons and Grimes. I'm worried about John Jerry's weight, Richard Marshall's back and Charles Clay's knee. Cam Wake will be 32 soon. Reshad Jones needs a new deal before the price skyrockets even more. I see why you like Austin so much, he's electric. But why not Cooper, Warmack, Watson, Patterson, Ogeltree, Mingo, Vacarro, Johnson, Carridine, Johnson, or Jones? I think there's a case to be made for any of those guys. I'm not fixated on anyone in particular.
Good point. I dont think we'll lose them all, I do think we should be proactive and start looking for replacements in this year's draft.
Well, last season in the 4 games with Martin and Garner playing OT, Tannehill's passer rating was 87.3
I just finished reviewing those games b/c I wanted a second look at Martin playing LT. They were good vs Buffalo and Jax, not so good vs SF and NE. Not exactly a surprise. We were in a lot of obvious passing situations in the NE/SF games and that's when they struggled the most. IMO. Martin should be fine at LT if he can get stronger. He'll struggle with the top tier guys, but who doesn't? And it's not like we're in the NFC East or North. Not a whole lot of upper tier pass rushers on our schedule. Garner I'm not a big fan of. He seems like a Matt Moore, a good backup, but not a guy you want as the #1. I hear we are gonna give Yeatman a shot in camp. Or maybe draft a OG and move Jerry to OT. Anything's possible. And I don't care how it's done, just get the guy some decent protection and a dependable run game.
