Happy Easter to all you Dolfans!!!

It's been a crazy free agency period to begin with but I like the moves we have made and even the money we've sacrificed. Ireland was as aggresive as we could have hoped and I think it was for the best. He also gave himself and the franchise an escape clause with some of the bigger contracts and we still have money to gain but a few cuts and restructures.

So, with the draft less than one month upon us and a bevy of picks I think its time to put together some blueprints. I think after the Grimes signing yesterday we might be just finding depth unless Winston becomes a realistic option (which I wouldn't mind the least).

Round 1:12 - Kind of a toss up right now and I think we are in BPA mode and hopefully hunting for a gamechanger. I am all for the move for Martin to LT, and I am sick of lineman as a priority this high. For me it really comes down to WR, TE, CB, DE...I know what you are thinking WR? Come on, but I think there is one that would be worthy of this slot and I think we all know his name pretty well. Tavon Austin...whew I feel better saying it now. I also like the idea of Eifert who has been mentioned a few times, think are lack on Offense right now is a jump ball threat and he certainly is that. As for DE I only see Werner as a possibility unless Ansah drops I think Jordan is a sure fire top 10. At CB it could be a Rhodes/Trufant debate but I like the 2nd tier corners to grow opposite Grimes.

My Pick: Tavor Austin WR WVU- Why? well Philbin wants his player and while I love Bess he isn't a game changer but a solid piece. Austin brings a dynamic with Wallace blowing off the top and him working underneath with Gibson and Hartline moving the sticks. Austin also will be a hybrid role and I can see him pulling Harvin duty out of the backfield. Then what do we do with Bess well I try to flip him for a pick and I think SF could be an option. They lack a slot guy and with Crabtree developing i think he would fit as a safety valve for Kapernick. Let's say we get a 2014 4th rounder for Bess and I'm happy cause he is not in NE.

Round 2: 42- Like I said I like the 2nd tier CB's right now and I think one of them is slipping due to combine performances but I think he has the skillset to be an asset on this team as with Smith gone we don't have one long corner. Another option is could be for a OL at this point like a Justin Pugh fron Syracuse or a Kyle Long from Oregon whom I both like but I feel they may be best as guards and I like the Louis signing if he can get back from injury to his true form. Another option is a DE but the one I want I feel may last a little longer.

My Pick: Jonathan Banks CB Miss. St- Why? Well he is an SEC corner and they can just flat out play. This kid is special I don't care what his 40 time is because his game speed is much stronger. He is a long corner who is physical. I love the way the Seattle corners play hell, I mean the whole secondary. They are physical, aggresive and play with a swagger and we need that. While Grimes is smaller he has great leaping ability and with Banks size and ballhawking skills hopefully we can get a positive turnover ratio.

Round 2: 54- What is a need that has enough talent to find a starter this late. Well OL is very deep. We already have enough WR's for the next three seasons to develop. TE ehhh... I think Eifert is long gone and Ertz kind of fell off for me, as I want a strong blocker to compensate for Keller. DL there are some options which leads me to my pick. Cameron Wake is a beast... Odrick is solid not special but I like his versatility vs the run. Vernon I can't put my finger on but I feel he is a natural hybrid he showed some skill as a LB even in coverage which could be his hybrid role. But a pass rush specialist would be nice. Enter...

My Pick: Alex Okafor DE/LB Texas- Why? Well first off it would be DE. The knock on him has been his run stopping ability. Well I don't care if he plays one play a series why....? Cause he can rush the passer. I think his size while similar to Wake I see the same bend to get underneath blockers and I love our D Line coach Rogers to get him to the next level. Let him pass rush and develop with Vernon and use a rotation which we saw last year is our D Line when fresh is dominant but we need depth and I like our DT moves now time to get DE up to par.

Round 3:77- So what have we addressed so far WR (gamechanger), Developing CB, Pass Rush DE to complement Wake. Good now time to build depth at positions who have short contract starters. What comes to mind...TE (Keller 1 yr), FS (Clemons 1 yr), G (Incognito, Louis, Jerry). Or do we go depth at a unproven position RB, LB? I believe Keller if he gets back to form is a likely option to stay past this year. Clemons I feel the staff isn't sold on as he had a good year last year or was it a fluke...Incognito i feel will be his last year but Louis could perform and Jerry well is a weight thing.

My Pick: Travis Kelce TE Cincinatti- Why? Well there is something about this guy. He produced solid numbers without a solid QB. He plays with a nasty edge and he isn't afraid to block. He also gives us the size we need for a red zone target. While he isn't in Eifert's league I believe he is not far behind Ertz or Reed. I think he could end up being the blocking TE we need from day one and develop over time. He doesn't lack speed while he isn't a huge seem threat thats fine, what we need is a safety valve and a guy who can play on the line. I think if Keller performs and he can learn under him and really develop his pass catching skills.

Round 3: 82- Two picks within 5 of each other is really nice. So referring to my previous statement about where do we head now. Well if Kelce can develop he is a year 2 or 3 starter but a contributor. I really struggle to find a Guard at this point I must have, I like Bailey from Arkansas but believe there is better talent at this point. Clemons has never really sold me from day one, even last year. He isn't a ballhawk and I would love to have a roaming FS in the mold of a Jarius Byrd, but with more skill against the run. There is one SEC safety I feel with a little trouble but his talent is undeniable.

My Pick: Bacarri Rambo FS UGA- Why? Cause I love SEC players and him and Jones having to stud Bulldogs in the back gets me excited. I want a fast defense who turns the ball over. Rambo is a ballhawk and while he has had some issues off the field he isn't a problem on it. I think he has 2nd round talent but safety isn't a hot commodity these days. Let Clemons play out this year and if he produces worthy of a contract extension well Rambo can develop and play filler as well. Still, letting Rambo wait a year get his feet wet I feel he could have the same ascension as Reshad Jones.

Round 4: 111- What haven't we addressed? Well, one glaring hole is RT and I know what your thinking...you waited to damn long. Nope, I feel that the RT we need is someone we have been scouting heavy per reports. This player has some real potential and has produced unfortuanetly is coming off injury. Still, his line produced some massive holes and guess what? Zone Blocking Scheme sound.

My Pick: Brennan Williams OT UNC- Why? Zone Blocking...plain and simple. Want to know why Long wasn't a priority? Well it wasn't just his injury history but he is not a Zone Blocker... He is a masher and isn't fit for Zone Scheme. Martin is athletic just needs to get stronger and Williams is the same mold. He was an All-ACC tackle and helped Bernard be a top 3 back in this years draft. Yes the injury history worries me a tad, but Turner has been scouting him and I think due to his injury his stock fell a bit. As long as he gets healthy, I let him, Garner and if Jerry moves to OT battle it out. I take Williams in that fight. Could be a day one starter in round four now wouldn't that be nice.

Round 5A- Now that we have a depth chart mainly completed we need to get some serious depth and developmental starters. Positions we see year and year that we lack depth...Well one is in our secondary but another is LB. I feel we have a young core while some doubt their skill I really see an attacking style which is why I feel we may use more efficient blitz packages from our LB's and there is one guy who a year ago was considered a first round talent and an heir to Von Miller at A&M.

My Pick: Sean Porter LB Tex A&M- Why? Well our staff is familiar with him. Which may lead us not to pick him but I like his potential to develop. I really see some depth with Kaddu last years late pick and I think him and Porter could eventually spell at blitz LB and develop their coverage skills. I see him as a solid special teams contributor as well, and the fact he was a DE and took the move to LB tells me he is a team player. Hell, we have had some decent A&M guy added the past two years.

Round 5B- So LB depth is a go. But we are lacking in one area mighty heavily and that is Guard. There are some serious questions there. Incognito? Well he got a pro bowl bid which I feel buys him another year but he really isn't a zone blocker. But, he is a leader on the line and I like his edge he plays with. Still, John Jerry well he isn't a real fit but did fill in fine last year. The fact he can't get ahold of his weight is a problem and its too bad because he is talented. Lance Louis I like but torn ACL isn't really how I like my new lineman. Still, I feel if he can get healthy its a play for pay and we extend him. But, Incognito has one year left so who knows.

My Pick: Hugh Thorton OG Illinois- Why? He has the versatility and athletic ability to develop into a solid Guard at the pro level. I like Big 10 lineman and I feel he is underrated Guards aren't drafted that high besides the quality of Cooper and Warmack this year. I feel if we can scoop up Thorton he could be a developmental starter with Turner's coaching.

Round 7A/B- Now these are the project guys and one thing GB always did that I liked develop a solid backup and have the insurance then get a return on your investment. Look at Matt Flynn they look pretty smart by developing him, also we look pretty smart for not taking him. Additonally, I think RB is a position that we could use a bigger guy. Jonas Gray we must see something in as we kept him around, still I don't know much about him.

My Picks: Jordan Rodgers QB Vanderbilt / Spencer Ware RB LSU- Why? Well the pedigree and the fact that Philbin likes to develop guys. I say let him and Devlin duke it out for a spot on the weekly roster. Who knows maybe he could become a gem in the future and we could get some compensation for him. Ware on the other hand I like his talent but he was in a 5 back deep backfield. Still he runs hard and believe he could push Gray for a short yardage guy. Plus I am sure you can see my theme SEC. Well, I like winners and the best players and thats where they come from.

    So...

    Tavon Austin WR
    Jonathan Banks CB
    Alex Okafor DE
    Travis Kelce TE
    Bacarri Rambo FS
    Brennan Williams
    Sean Porter LB
    Hugh Thorton OG
    Jordan Rodgers QB
    Spencer Ware RB

    Let me know your thoughts?

My thoughts are a few of those gent's won't be around for our picks. But I sure would be happy if it fell that way.

    Ditto.

I love Kelce, but he won't be there at 77, IMO.

I'd personally go CB or DE high and go with value/production with Swope in the third.

I doubt we make it to the third round without drafting an O lineman. I think we will take one in the first round.

Man I love these mocks! Great Entertainment.

Like the idea behind the first three picks, even if I prefer different players at those positions. Im not sold on taking Kelce or any other TE in the first four rounds given that Keller may be our full time TE for years to come. Love Rambo, Williams and Rodgers in the late rounds!

    Well done, and happy holidays.

    Say they pass on tavon or he isn't there;
    1) is swope available in the 3rd? (Seen his projected pick all over the place)
    2) If not should they reach with their last 2nd round pick to grab him?

Well. I am okay with Austin, and like Kelce.....and it ends there.

I got really sick and tired of watching Okafor get knocked all over the field every Saturday afternoon.

We better shore up our offensive line or our Sophomore QB won't last the season.

Tavon Austin WR = good pick..
Jonathan Banks CB = horrible pick SS24 all over again (Hayden is the right pick here)
Alex Okafor DE = bad pick, no very strong at the point of attack (if you want Kelce this is more of a realistic spot for him)
Travis Kelce TE = Good player. fits a need (If you want a safety, Swearinger is the guy here)
Bacarri Rambo FS = Sweet baby jesus, this guy was horrible in coverage last year and not very strong supporting the run. (I would be looking for a RB (Bell), OG (kid from Cal cant think of his name right now), OT or NT (William) here)
Brennan Williams = LOVE, this pick… absolutely LOVE the pick. Coming off injury will fall to the 4th or so round when he should be a 2nd rounder.
Sean Porter LB = have not seen enough of him to have an opinion
Hugh Thorton OG = Love the pick.. but you better take him with the Porter pick because I doubt he is there at that point.
Jordan Rodgers QB = No opinion
Spencer Ware RB = No opinion

**** and of course just because I think your picks are bad… doesnt mean they are! :tongue2:

Thanks for the feedback guys, I realize some picks may be longshots to last that long, but its the draft who knows. I really just don't want to spend another 1st rounder on an OL. I definetly feel that the premier DE's will be gone by 12 but none of them really blow me away to be honest. I think that with our newly added LB's we have a chance to blitz more from that position which would be nice to see. I really want us to get another early CB and I really don't mind a 2nd rounder like Jamar Taylor.

Tavon Austin he is a tricky one to predict but I really feel like Bess isn't a Philbin guy and i don't think it is a character issue but rather the type of player he is. I also think we need a bigger WR/TE threat so if we take Tyler Eifert at 12 I wouldn't be pissed but if thats the case I'd take a trade down to late teen's/ early 20's and I think he could still be there.

There's been talk of a trade up and there is only one player I'd want in that situation and that is Dee Milliner. I don't know if I am the only one but having Patterson/Marshall battle for the 2nd/3rd CB doesn't make me feel all fuzzy. Also Grimes is a one year rental, to me I hope he is healthy but if thats the case he could play well enough to price himself out for us and we need to have a young fall back to take over if that happens.

I would say this is all VERY well written and thought out!!!

Only maybe 2-3 OL i would want at 12, and good chance they are all gone by 12. Wouldn't waste any picks moving up for them. IF they are there, then :woot:, if not, then maybe Austin...but only maybe.

We REALLY need another top-tier CB to stay up with the jones'. The entire league, by Rog Goodies no-contact rules, has become very pass happy. To compete with this, we better either be able to rush the passer or cover...or both. We are not set up very well to do either at this point, but I think that will drastically change by Pre-season.

For that matter, all three are one year rentals... (Grimes, Marshall, Patterson), but I agree with you...they don't make me feel very warm and fuzzy at all...I suspect we'll see at least 2 CBs and a S taken, probably two in first 3 rounds...

Guess what I just saw..and didn't realize. Marcus Trufant is also a FA right now. How dynamic would it be to have 2 tru's starting for us this year

I honestly wouldn't want to trade down too far, or he won't be there. That kid has the makings to be a pretty darn good CB for several years. Maybe not the sexiest picks, but I think it is a safe and solid one at a position of tru need.....see what I did there? :shifty:

Agreed I don't know what it is about Rhodes but he doesn't do it for me at 12. If we can trade down to say 18 and beyond and still get him I am all for it. It's funny besides Tavon Austin I really don't have anyone on my board I would fight for. I like the depth in this draft, I just really don't want us to waste premium picks on non playmaking positions.
