I would think/hope that Albert's lack of cooperation might lower K.C.'s asking price.

I'd think the impediment here would be Albert's contract. I'm not sure Miami could necessarily afford what he ideally wants.

Well they could if they made a switch. Send Randy Starks to K.C. (they have no aversion to Alex Smith so it's safe to say prime veterans work) for Albert. That takes care of salary concerns. Then instead of trading up for a LT, you have Odrick to start at DT plus you can draft Lotulelei or Sheldon Richardson and not lose much if anything (Soliai has his backup, Odrick his).

I'd much rather have Odrick instead of Starks than Martin instead of Albert.

I replied to your mock thread. I don't think, unless Albert is holding KC's toes to the fire, that they would trade Albert for Starks straight up. Their Dline isn't terrible, but their Oline actually is pretty bad.

So let me get this straight (Not argumentive, I just don't get it???) You are saying you would rather have Albert and Star than No-one and Starks? That makes LOTS of sense to me...or you are also saying you don't like Martin at LT (Neither do I, not at this juncture. Probably in a year or two after he grows into his body and learns the ropes a little better).

The Dolphins are just not going to trade for this guy for anything higher than a 3rd rounder. Makes absolutely no sense to give a 2nd when you can use that to move up in the 1st round and draft a younger and monumentally cheaper player.

not a big fan of Albert ... and believe KC just Franchised him as a safeguard. They have a 'developing T' in Stephenson and will more than likely draft one early .... so, if forced - Albert gets them by this year. Very similar to Starks ...

KC would have to be in a position to draft a LT with no less than their 2d pick ....

We are in a 'similar' position at T ... we have Martin who is a work in progress and 'potentially' Yeatman who is a project .... and not much else, not named Jerry.

To even consider Albert, I would have to 'know' that his back spasms are not a potential chronic situation .... equally, I don't want to see Martin a RT either ...

I'd take Albert but not for a 2nd and conditional pick. I'd take him for our 3rd. We still would have to fork over a ton of dough.

Don't see this really happening. But, KC is in a conundrum. They want one of the OTs but don't know what to do with Albert.

Assuming that Albert is healthy, I think pursuing a trade for Albert makes sense. I'd be OK with trading one of the 2nd rounders for Albert (preferably 2b) - the Dolphins have the cap room to take on a new contract for him. In my opinion, would be better value to use a 2nd on Albert than to use a 1st and 2nd/3rd to trade up for an offensive tackle. I think this is a trade that may occur a day or two before the draft.

This would give the Dolphins the freedom to do pretty much anything they want at #12 - I'm becoming a bigger fan of taking Eifert there. I think Eifert would have a huge impact in the red zone - Dolphins really don't have that sort of big target on the roster know unless Egnew develops.

I don't like all the trade talk. The one year Miami has 5 of the top 82 players and we are talking trade every where (media, fan boards, experts). Stop it. You can get 5 potential starters or contributors. I like Johnson, but don't want to trade up. I do not want to give a 2nd or even 3rd round pick for Albert.

I think it would be a really good trade to give up a 3rd round pick for Albert.

screw Fat Albert and having to make up a huge contract , which would be part of the trade. Send San Diego or the Browns one third and a few later round picks and our 12th pick and move up and get a new LT at a great price. We trade then pay Brandon Albert and he will leave the buildking like Vernon Carey did

The Chargers are going to draft a LT. We would be moving up to get ahead of them.

I would rather the Dolphins sign Winston Justice and not trade up. If Johnson is there draft him, if not draft a OT like Reid Fragel in a later round and hope against hope that Justice can stay healthy all year for the first time in his life.

Justice is a better pass blocker than Albert and neither one of them can run block but at least Justice would only cost a pittance.

Best case scenario: Johnson is available at 12 and he starts at LT. Justice stays healthy all year and plays RT. Dolphins completely break form and make two excellent choices in the 2nd round.

If we are talking draft picks I much rather they use one of their later round picks plus their first to move up and grab Lane Johnson. Much more cost effective plus no unseen baggage (I'm not getting paid enough)!

Just another smoke screen if you ask me.

Are you suggesting we go after Smith?

    Oh HELL no.

He is fat, lazy and just not that good to begin with. NOTHING about that guy says ZBS.

Heard Tim and Pat talking about this on Sirius NFL radio on my way home last night. They were in favor of it, only because they both believe Martin can and will only be an average right tackle at the NFL level, and Albert would be far better than anything we've got on the roster right now. Then Pat Kirwan also chimed in with the fact it would be a really silly move to make as well, because we'd probably end up paying on average per yer, more than we would have to keep Jake Long, and Long is the better player. So in their eyes, the cost would be to great. Take it for what its worth...

It's true. We wanted to keep Long. So it doesn't make sense to give away a draft pick and a big contract on a guy our coaching staff aren't as familiar with.

I'm not sure what planet Winston Justice is better than Albert, that guy gets his *** kicked badly in big games multiple times a year. He's not good. Albert isn't in the club with the handful of elite guys, but Justice you can't expect to not explode.

Branden Albert is the non-draft Tackle available this year. A 2nd round pick in addition to the contract would be a little rough, but I don't see why it should be out of the question.

Albert should be considered more valuable than Long at this point. Albert has not had the same upside, but it's about what they have done lately. Albert has been the better player for multiple years in a row. He's also the best you're likely to get available as a veteran player, as guys who are more blue chip don't really make it to market.

He may be fat, lazy and not a ZBS guy but he is still a very good player. Just not a good fit for us but overall he's one of the best RT's in the league.

In the league? I think he is probably one of the best still available via FA, but I wouldn't go so far as to say one of the best in the league, especially in Pass Protection

Nope, Winston Justice when 100% healthy is one of, if not thee top PBE OT's in the league. Go research it yourself.

He isn't tough and he isn't durable.

When he gets banged up he plays like crap, and he gets injured every year. I don't think he has ever played a full season.

He is nothing special at all when it comes to run blocking.

However, he is going to be available for peanuts.

Risky, yes, but so is Albert with his back issue.

Justice would cost maybe 1.5 mil, where Albert's tag is over 10 mil, and a long term deal with guaranteed money would be stupid for an injury risk who is a mediocre run blocker himself.

Yes, I would rather sign Justice and draft the position.

Part of the trade will most likely require we give him a multiple year contract. I am not willing to do that. If there is only 4 rotten tomatoes left you take the one that is least rotten and its OK ? I would rather draft one. Albert is a fat pig person. He will get paid and we will never see him again. On the other hand he will get paid and take up the entire TV screen. You do not give players like this almost 10 million a year or multiple year big contracts.

KC knew the FA OT market was slim this year and stuck the franchise tag on him hoping some dumb stupid idiotic GM would make a trade out of need. I would draft one or put up with Martin for a year and get a RT someplace.
