Same problem with Davone Bess and Austin. Someone goes on the trading block. On the defensive line, that's likely Odrick and you can probably get a late rounder from a 3-4 defense.
I would personally be much happier seeing Odrick go than I would Bess. I don't think there's any doubt that Bess is more valuable to the team...or at least there isn't any doubt to me.
Brandon Gibson, btw, only took 8% of his snaps from the slot according to PFF (via Agler on Finsiders) That's another guy, with Wallace and Hartline, taking boundary snaps. So while Stedman is versatile, do we need versatile or do we need a slot weapon?
With our Cb's? With our T's and G's? Way I see it, Ireland more then likely will draft for those 3 slots and just carry cap forward rather than take Austin or even Star L. IIRC, he let Andre Goodman walk after a great 08 and just drafted Davis and Smith to fill the void.
Believe me, I agree. I wouldn't want to be the guy that passes on Star at 12. I couldn't personally pass on Star or Jarvis Jones unless it was for one of the three tackles. But yeah, as you noted in another thread, Ireland prefers these rookie contracts to fill the expensive positions. When #2 corners are going for 7 million, that makes really good sense.
Personally, I'd take either one and make do afterwards. Or Jones if his health checked out as I'd rather have the talent then play accountant/football talent acquirer. When all you see is the number on the contract, you quite simply will miss out on talent that may not make perfect sense to draft at the time, the NFL is chaotic, not linear.
I never understood that. We could have resigned Goody and Renaldo Hill for less than we paid for Gibril Wilson. But, was that Ireland or Parcells? Also I fail to see how it is pertinent to anything currently going on.
