http://insider.espn.go.com/nfl/draf...-kiper-latest-mock-draft-goes-two-full-rounds Picks before our: 1 Chiefs - Luke Joeckel 2 Jags - Ezekiel Ansah 3 Raiders - Sharrif Floyd * 4 Eagles - Geno Smith 5 Lions - Dee Milliner * 6 Browns - Dion Jordan 7 Cards - Eric Fisher 8 Bills -Jonathan Cooper 9 Jets - Barkevious Mingo 10 Titans - Chance Warmack * 11 Bolts - Lane Johnson Fins: 1 - OT DJ Fluker 2a - DE Tank Carradine 2b - CB Robert Alford The next few picks were: 13 DT Star Lotulelei 14 LB Jarvis Jones 15 WR Tavon Austin 16 TE Tyler Eifert 17 DT Sylvester Williams 23 WR Cordarrelle Patterson
I think that we'll have Menelik Watson ahead of DJ Fluker on our board, maybe even Terron Armstead too. Fluker is such a plodder. Love the Alford and Carradine picks though. Those guys can play.
Agreed. I'd be ecstatic with a haul of Star, Carradine, and Alford though (or anyone else you mentioned, I just like Star most of that group).
I don't love the Fluker pick, but the others are decent. The truth is, we WILL come out of this draft with great new talent. It's almost impossible NOT to this year.
Fluker and Martin as bookends ?. Does Kiper have something against Tannehill, that boy would be dead.. This is a mammoth of a man..6'6 340..has real trouble with his kick slide, as in not a quick one.
Just goes to show, the extent of Kiper's knowledge about the Dolphins is that they weren't able to re-sign Jake Long. Have never liked the guys predictions. Not sure how he stays in business doing this to be honest. There are minimum a dozen people in these forums that could and have predicted more accurate informed MOCK's than he has.
Perhaps, but he doesn't fit the Mantra of our O-line buildup at all. I don't see it. Stranger things have happened, but I don't see us taking Fluker at 12.
As the next highest rated OT after the top 3, he's probably right that he'll go higher than expected. Would still question that it will be us that take him.
Kiper's a big name who has insane knowledge on every single prospect. Remember when Oakland drafted Mike Mitchell? Everyone, and I mean everyone, including McShay and Mayock, didn't know anything about the kid. Kiper rattled off **** for like 5 minutes straight and said he was the 47th (not specifically sure) ranked safety on his board and this was a strange pick because not only a reach because of his strengths and weaknesses... It was one of those moments where you realize wow Kiper knows a **** load.
I hear that Geno Smith to the Jags is really picking up steam. If so you could see something like this: 01. Kansas City Chiefs - OT Luke Joeckel, Texas A&M 02. Jacksonville Jaguars - QB Geno Smith, West Virginia 03. Oakland Raiders - DT Star Lotulelei, Utah 04. Philadelphia - DT Sharrif Floyd, Florida 05. Detroit Lions - OT Eric Fisher, Central Michigan 06. Cleveland Browns - CB Dee Milliner, Alabama 07. Arizona Cardinals - OT Lane Johnson, Oklahoma 08. Buffalo Bills - QB Matt Barkley, USC 09. New York Jets - FS Kenny Vaccaro, Texas 10. Tennessee Titans - CB Xavier Rhodes, Florida State 11. San Diego Chargers - WR Tavon Austin, West Virginia 12. Miami Dolphins - DT Sheldon Richardson, Missouri 13. New York Jets - LB Dion Jordan, Oregon 14. Carolina Panthers - OT D.J. Fluker, Alabama 15. New Orleans Saints - WR Cordarrelle Patterson, Tennessee 16. St. Louis Rams - RB Eddie Lacy, Alabama 17. Pittsburgh Steelers - LB Jarvis Jones, Georgia 18. Dallas Cowboys - SS Matt Elam, Florida 19. New York Giants - DE Cornellius "Tank" Carradine, Florida State 20. Chicago Bears - LB Alec Ogletree, Georgia
He gets paid for his analyst and his entertainment value, not his accuracy. We are not taking Fluker that high don't worry.
Was just typing out a response that basically said "why Mingo?", when I checked the post again and saw it said Richardson. Now either I'm getting old or someone did a quick edit?!
Quick edit. Couldn't put Mingo in there in all good conscience. Felt too much like pegging a bad pick onto them just because I don't think particularly highly of the front office's powers of evaluation.
I would prefer Tank at 12...but could get over it, especially if the JESTS spent two 1st rounders on these two guys Why do the Jests have 2 first rounders to begin with????
The point I'm trying to make though is that we may assume that Xavier Rhodes and Tavon Austin are going to be there but maybe not. Maybe all three offensive tackles, both quality defensive tackles, both quality corners AND Kenny Vaccaro AND Tavon Austin will all be off the board. Even with both QBs going. If that's the case...what the hell do we do?
Well, there are only 11 players going ahead of us. I think 2 of those will be QB's, that makes it 9. Perhaps 3 O-lineman, that makes it 6. Of those six, there will certainly be a very nice DT, WR or CB left
1. Most everyone assumes Tampa Bay's pick #13 is going to the Jets one way or another in the Darrelle Revis trade. It's in staredown mode but most think it still happens. 2. I don't know about Kenny Vaccaro but Dion Jordan is a good player. They're both good players I think, matter of fact. I don't enjoy anything in particular about giving Rex Ryan two weapons that talented to use creatively.
And that was going to be my long-winded version of the "why Mingo" question, ie. do you know something about an interest in Mingo, or are you just thinking they'll make the wrong choice, lol.
Man, I saw LOTS of Dion Jordan as well as Vaccaro. I don't think very highly of either. I watched Jordan really miss constantly, and I also watched him wear down quite a bit...of course, with that offense scoring every 90 seconds or whatever the hell it was, he did take quite a few snaps...but I really didn't think he was that great. I have already posted what I watched quite a bit with Vaccaro. He reminds me of a small linebacker playing safety. I watched that guy get fooled several times a game. He has some really nice traits, but he better learn to spot Play-Action or he won't last 2 years at the next level.
Jarvis Jones is the no brainer pick for me in that scenario... assuming you think his health is up to par. Of course, I don't know much of anything about Sheldon Richardson as I never figured he was even a possibility.
I'm sure I've watched as much of Dion Jordan as you have. I didn't see the wearing down factor. I don't know what you mean by he "missed". I think he's a really good linebacker that immediately you know can stop the run and cover to the extent that the Jets ask a guy in a Calvin Pace/Bryan Thomas type position to cover. Those two are givens. Anyone that's watched him closely should be able to recognize he's very good against the run. The question mark is his pass rushing and I think the shoulder injury which he dealt with for most of the year probably hampered his ability to use a variety of moves and counters. He has good hands in pass rush and obviously supreme athletic ability. There's a lot of upside there. I don't particularly enjoy the thought of handing him to the Jets but I think they may see in Jordan some of what they liked (and still like) in Quinton Coples. Incidentally I watched Reshad Jones similarly get fooled...A LOT...when he was at Georgia. Obviously he ironed that out. I think Vaccaro's a good player. I'm not sure enough about him to have him on my list but he's not far off it.
Pull the trigger on a pre-arranged trade for an NFL starter... like our 1st for Clady and KC's second.
Jones health is a real real concern. I'm not confident he has a long career without missing a lot of time. And I LOVE Jones. imo, he's the biggest defensive playmaker in the draft. Big plays. All the time. Richardson is great if you need a 3-4 end, or a Peria Jerry type.
1) Rashad jones was ONT a top ten pick for those very reasons though. 2) dion Jordan is amazingly versatile, but you want him operating out of a two point stance as much as possible, imo. Even when he rushes, do it as a 3-4 OLB.
IMO Jones was fooled a lot more than Vacarro was. I do have Vacarro on my list. I think he'll be a play maker at the next level.
I think it was either Boomer or CK that said it best. Kiper has done a lot more for the popularity of the NFL draft than any other sport personality. We might not always agree with his opinions, but his contributions to the draft have been pretty awesome
