Hi everyone just found this over at Raiders.net and thought it might interest you all. Don't know how legit it is so take it with a grain of salt-

    @NFLDraftBites: #Raiders 3rd overall(2,200) want Picks 12, 42, 82 (1,860) & Future 3rd from #Dolphins. #Miami targeting Lane Johnson.

As I've been reporting for a week, general consensus now points to #Dolphins trading up for an Offensive Tackle.

If #Dolphins 'Adamant' keeping Pick 42 (480), #Raiders demand Picks 54 & 82 (540). Phins see Drat Values in Round 3, want to keep both picks
    12:07pm - 6 Apr 13

Browns also possible trade for dolphins: (not looking good)

@NFLDraftBites: Dolphins #Browns would be receptive to dealing pick 6 (1,600) to #Dolphins for picks 12, 54 & 146 (1,593). Concern that all 3 tackles could be gone.

Don't know how creditable the source is but seems legit based off other things they tweet . Take it for what it's worth. If its legit I would prefer 2 late 1st or 1st and a early second.

I'd much prefer that we did the Cleveland trade. I don't think we need to move up all the way to third to get one of the Big 3, and I'd rather keep the higher 2 and 3 to fill our needs at CB and pass rusher.

If the Phins give up multiple picks to climb up and draft a left tackle after letting Jake Long leave... I'm going to lose it. Is the difference between Jake Long and Lane Johnson worth multiple draft picks, including the first rounder you now have to spend to pick Johnson? Really? Seriously?

Can someone explain to me how having a Lane Johnson is just as good as having Jake Long, Xavier Rhodes, Johnathan Cyprien, Kiko Alonso AND another 3rd round pick next year?

This has to be hogwash. Just has to be.

Yeah, if we trade up for a OT and loose 2 picks I'll be pissed despite what Ireland has done in the off season. If Johnson is there at #12 take him if not go another route. Draft Long and let him and Martin split reps at LT and see who wins. Our picks are far too valuable to give away. If that is the case we should have just offered Jake a fat contract and convinced him to stay here. Way to much too give up for Lane Johnson. If fans were/ still are pissed about the Long over Ryan trade go figure what they will do if Ireland trades up for Johnson at #3 or#6......the world will end

Too much. If we're that desperate, FA was a disaster. You build perennial winners through the draft.

Are we really talking 3 tackles going back to back to back? Would like to hear from the gurus if this is even remotely possible.

Essentially you'd be trading all of your high picks to get a rookie tackle, when you could have just paid an extra 1-2 million for Jake Long without giving up any picks. There's no chance of this being true.

I was thinking the exact same thing. Theres just no way we let Long walk.....then trade multiple picks to draft a guy that might be a decent LT/RT....whew....no way.

So much this. Im just not sold that OT is that important to invest all those picks in to. Plus the value in this draft is in rounds 2-5. We unequivocally shouldnt sacrifice picks to move up. We're in no position to do that.

I cannot get on board with this. If you're going to trade all the way up it better be for someone who can change the game with a single play. I'm well aware we need help at O-Line and I would totally be fine drafting one at 12, but nah, no way would I give up all those picks for a tackle.

    Hi Folks -

After I read this, I sent some messages (may or may not have had a panic attached to them) to the fella who was able to get me all the information regarding the uniforms/logo. He's fairly connected, obviously, and I asked him about this.

He said that this is a combination of two things. Oakland releasing the fact that Miami made inquiries into the 3rd overall pick (which they did) and Drew Rosenhaus going around saying Miami is definitely taking an OT in the 1st round, blah blah blah.

Well, he told me a few things. 1) Don't believe everything that is being leaked right now. and 2) Miami is in indeed looking to trade up, but it'd be a contingent trade depending on 2 players being available. He said it's much more likely Miami is trading up to Cleveland, as the current price seems to be much more to Ireland's liking.

So, take it for what it's worth (a very small grain of salt) but it made me feel good hearing that. Stuff like this is REALLY hard to give insider information on, because it takes so many different variables to line up for it to happen but... This whole talk of Miami selling out and doing anything to go up for Lane Johnson is goofy as hell.

Have you all forgotten about how there is a limited amount of money teams can spend under the cap, and how paying comparative peanuts for a left tackle, one of the highest paid positions in the game, allows a team to spend more on players at other positions?

This is the value of the draft, folks. It allows you to pay potentially high-quality players peanuts for (usually) four years. And when you're talking about paying peanuts for a very highly-paid position (left tackle), it may make sense to sacrifice multiple picks, especially if you have extra ones, in that endeavor.

His texts seem to indicate it was Dee Milliner, but he admitted that any specifics regarding players would be his speculation based on what he hears around the office. He actually doesn't know who the 2 players are. I asked if it was Lane Johnson and he said it very well could be but he'd be surprised.

This is the same guy who about a month ago told me (and CK heard from his people as well, it seems) that Miami was absolutely ga ga over Patterson so I honestly don't know what's going on in Davie.

This is the same guy who told me after the 1st round that Miami was going to have the 1st pick of the 2nd round so clearly sometimes he gets things wrong at times.

There's a chance Joeckel slips to 3 by the way. That may be the clue.

I'm sticking to my beliefs on this one that it's either a trade up for a OT (now a huge trade up) or a CB at 12.

That's something I didn't even think of. My opinion was waiting to see if Lane Johnson/Dee Milliner dropped to #6 and Miami moves up to grab them.

He's going to update me as things progress but at this point I'm convinced that everything he tells me is meant to be a leak, considering I seem to post them and then like 24-48 hours later there's an article from Armando or Ben Volin affirming it.

Ireland's draft record tends to give away his selections. What scares me is Fluker. That would not surprise me in the least considering how Ireland goes for need and then says the value fit perfectly.

That said there's another possibility. This may be like the Jared Odrick year where Miami loves a guy but sees him worth a lesser value. Menelik Watson in a major trade down would make sense.

Trufant is the pick that would make sense but I'm using Ireland logic here. It's more likely he trades down for a OT than trades up for an OT. Remember in 2010, he wanted a NT and decided Starks would be that guy while he made Odrick the defensive end. He said I want to trade down and make this a fair value pick.

Menelik Watson is the first player that truly fits the Dolphin's greatest position of need (OT). A trade down for him around 20-22 might get Miami a late second rounder or a third plus a fourth rounder.

Just last year he was desperately trying to trade up to grab Ruben Randle, but he was taken before he got the chance. Instead he later dropped down in the 3rd and picked Egnew. I suppose that's along the same lines but... who knows.

I like the fact that he is atleast discussing with possible trade up targets. I'd be upset if he didn't, with how our #12 pick is shaping up this year. I don't necessarily agree with the jump for Lane, thats too many picks to go all the way to 3 which is also not necessary imo. But atleast he is shopping around which is good. I wonder who the second player is.

if its all about filling needs with quality players.

There might be a scenario to aquire Trufant and Watson, they would fill two huge needs with two players that have very nice ceilings, and I think you could execute a trade down and still get them..

I think you would have to take Ryan Swope in the 2nd round to ensure him being on the team because of the losing out on Austin or Eifert.

    Trufant

    Watson

    Swope.

It would take me a while to get over losing out on both Austin or Eifert...

No, I can't do it, one of those guys has to be a future dolphin..

    You and me both, brother.....

But i'm starting to deal with the fact that the reality is we are probably going to get ANY WR other than Tavon, my money would probably be on Steddy-B. And Also its looking like we brab Kelce for the blocking/insurance/developmental TE later in the draft.

To be honest, as bad as I want Eifert more than anything, And as good of a spot as we are in to get him, I don't see it happening. Which blows. Another concern i'm having with all this trade up talk is the DE position... I mean assuming you trade up for either an OT or a CB, you're going to lose a second rounder and probably a super late one too. So now you have to go down the rest of your list of filling either CB or OT possibly with your next pick, depending on what your first pick was, then WRs, TE, possibly DT etc.... I'm hoping i'm wrong but I was really hoping DE would be a big priority this year. Especially considering the pressure it could possible alleviate on the secondary, But it doesn't seem that way.

    In the end who knows.

Paying Long the $9M a year he wanted versus paying Lane a fraction of that... But I don't even think it was completely about the money. I think they/he simply wanted to go separate ways.... With his injury concerns, he needed a fresh start somewhere else and we needed to move on...

Don't get me wrong, I'm certainly not a proponent of trading up for Johnson or Fisher, but there were reasons that Jake is gone and they weren't all because of what the Fins valued him at...

Have you forgotten we just drafted a LT just last year? Have you forgotten that LT's dont score touchdowns? Why are we trading multiple assets for a LT when we just drafted a LT last year in a prime spot in the draft?

We do need a Tackle but imo this is, as KB pointed out in club, very possibly a leverage job by Ireland to try and bring down Winston's asking price. We did the same thing with Grimes and you havent heard Xavier Rhodes name since then. Personally, if you want to get a OT, fine, trade down from 12 and take Fluker in the 20's. Or take a David Bakhtiari in round 3 or 4 or a Brennan Williams in round 4. We need a RT not a LT. Jon Martin simply cant play RT and his agility is wasted there anyway.

Completely agree that it would be a big mistake to trade up for an OT, imo. It would just be a waste. There's no way I would trade up from #12 and give up either of the 2nd or 3rd round selections. Those selections, given Miami's deep needs, are golden! Plus, they give us flexibility to move up in round 2 if a player drops that we really love and need.

It's just not worth it. I like the OTs but it's not like any of them are Orlando Pace! (In fact, I think there's a better chance that one or both of the OG's become long time All-Pros and potentially HOF type players). Certainly not for a CB. And, there are no Lawrence Taylors or Deion Sanders in this draft, imo.

    Then there's this:
    - from Chase Stuart at Football Perspective, who has put out, imo, a better draft value chart based on actual value of draft picks over time (it ostensibly notes that if teams go by the common value chart - which most teams tend to follow - or stay relatively close to if not precisely) trading up is a mistake - one loses value (for the most part). The only reason for doing so is if one sees a player of supreme value who is a team changing player (like a QB or a player who is going to dominate the game). Milliner is not that guy. In fact, no one in this draft is that guy. Or, if a team were willing to trade on a basis that is more closely linked to Stuart's value chart.

To illustrate - the old chart requires (at minimum) us giving up our second 2nd round pick (#54) and more, if we were to trade up to #6 with Cleveland, for example, to get Milliner. But, Stuart's value chart (and I think there are good reasons for his valuations) - argues the value of moving from 12 to 6 in round 1 is only worth a 4th rounder (our #111) from an all around value basis. If

Stuart's value #'s then the present draft value chart:

All of the goodwill that Ireland built up this offseason will be lost if he trades up to get a OL.

If he trades picks and moves up it needs to be for Milliner and nobody else.

A player like Milliner is few and far between. A OL can be had in the 2nd round that is suitable for our needs.
