I didn't want to start another draft thread so I'll slide this one in here. Kevin Weidl of Scouts Inc. put out a short list of players on the rise and players with questions. You need insider access to read it:

    http://insider.espn.go.com/nfl/blog...b-dj-hayden-leads-group-late-rising-prospects

For those that don't have it I'll paraphrase a couple of player that we may have interest in:

    Risers:
CB DJ Hayden - think he could be gone by end of the 1st round after talking to scouts
DE Datone Jones - (More of a 3-4 DE so we may not have interest) Plays with a high motor, and scouts rave about his character, maturity and work ethic.
C/G Brian Schwenke - thinks he has good chance to come off the board on day two
QB Ryan Griffin - good late round developmental prospect whose biggest draw back is lack of arm strength.

    Players with questions:
WR Cordarrelle Patterson - talked to several front office people who are concerned about CPs "steep learning curve" and ability to quickly absorb a playbook. Also got mixed reviews on his interviews.
WR Quinton Patton - Got hot and cold reviews from scouts. Tentative at times, won't always fight for the ball in traffic. Crafty, good route runner and could get picked at end of 1st round
S Shawn Williams - Might slide into 3rd round based on scout reviews. Tight in the hips.
CB David Amerson - Another guy who could slide into the 3rd round due to issues transitioning out of his back peddle according to scouts.

Datone Jones is the man, I hope a 3-4 team picks him up and he has a great career, unless it is someone in our division.

Chris Jones and Derek Landri could be freaking brothers. They're virtually the same person.

I know the Dolphins don't need a QB, but for those interested in general draft things, here are their completion percentages from the entire seasons on passes 16+ yards in the air (not adjusting for drops):

    Barkley: 45%
    Wilson: 44%
    Smith: 41%
    Nassib: 44%
    Mike Glennon: 35%
    EJ Manuel: 45%
    Bray: 37%

Then one more interesting stat, screen attempts as a percentage of total attempts:

    EJ Manuel: 16%
    Smith: 32%
    Barkley: 23%
    Nassib: 16%
    Glennon: 10%
    Wilson: 8%
Bray: 12% (Why they didn't throw screens more given their wide receivers, I will never know)

Full passing charts should be up at TheSidelineView.com in the next day or so, if you get geeked about this stuff like I do - the passing maps from STATS ICE are great.

Matt Barkley did two pretty important things this year that he's not getting credit for. He walked into the year with legitimate concerns about deep accuracy and his performance in the 4th quarter. Well, his deep accuracy came out to be one of the best in the class in 2012, and his 4th quarter performance was stellar. He saw two areas of weakness, and he worked on them, made then strengths.

People can sell on him all they want. To me he's still the best bet in this year's crop of quarterbacks. This whole arm strength debate is so cyclical. We alternate years where voices in the media either chide the scouts for taking bad quarterbacks with good arms, or other years where the people like Greg Cosell who is an absolute arm strength nut win out the "who's loudest" contest and certain players come to be out of favor.

Right now we're more onto the latter part of the cycle. Why? Because Colin Kaepernick and Joe Flacco battled it out in the Super Bowl and both have ground to air missile launchers mounted on their shoulders. Surprise, surprise, Jamarcus Russell is suddenly getting air with the media again as a player making a comeback, and Matt Barkley goes from top ten to second round.

And you know what'll happen next year? Matt Barkley will have a good rookie year while Geno Smith struggles, Matt Schaub will face Matt Ryan in the Super Bowl, and we'll be back to chiding people for being too oriented toward arm strength.

I've had him on radar a while, as I'm sure Jeff Ireland does. Jeff Ireland loves those size-weight-speed guys especially late and undrafted...no matter what their football experience level is. See: Brown, Les.
