Teo fits the Ireland bill pretty well. Multi year, productive starter, elite play against top competition, squeaky clean (if fake girlfriend is the worst you have...) If he makes it by Chicago, he's a prime trade up candidate
No clue... I mean, my sense is that Brandon Alberts contract would be bigger than Brandon Albert. But, at any rate, I could see us using either the 12, or a 2nd/3rd to get a starter at a position of need. Even if there is similar talent there at that spot in the draft, you are buying time... an ability to step in and perform sooner, thus securing someone's job, for instance.
We've deliberately kept some cap space, nickeled and dimed Winston in negotiations.. If Lane Johnson doesn't materialize in round 1, I see no reason not to offer 2b and 5 and a future mid-rounder for Albert
You need to be our exclusive here and stop whoring yourself out..lol Jk, seriously, you have shown to be trustworthy, I gotta an idea, when you hear something, start a thread and call it "Crazy talk"
Exactly^ Lane Johnson may not even be any better than Jonathan Martin in his rookie year. Brandon Albert would be better and he fits the system perfectly.
I agree here. It comes down to the dollars and cents. Albert cannot cost more than Jake Long, because why do that AND lose the pick? But if he is less expensive than Jake, it could be the move to make, imo. I think, however, that Ireland will see if Lane Johnson, Eric Fisher, or Luke Joeckel fall to 12 (or close enough to make a small trade up) first. If not, then he executes the 2nd for Albert trade, imo, and un-handcuffs himself for all his other picks including the 12th. (I'd expect we take a CB at that point)
Huh, that's interesting. They could've been trying to get Coby Fleener. That's like getting the version of Michael Egnew that actually plays with urgency on the football field. Fleener went to Indy at #34 overall so trying to move up to #33 would've made sense. The Colts' need and desire for tight ends was so great they took both Fleener and Dwayne Allen, so it's a need that I'm sure Miami could've predicted and picked up on. I could also imagine it being Courtney Upshaw instead of Olivier Vernon.
It makes so much sense that I think this is what will happen. Really there are three possibilities: 1) Johnson, Fisher or Joeckel fall to 12 or close enough to it that we can get them at minimal cost. If not then.... 2) We execute getting Brandon Albert for our 2a pick. If not then.... 3) We sign Eric Winston, our backup plan, and live with Martin at LT. Perhaps we address OT in the 2nd/3rd to give Martin some competition.
Lane Johnson will be SIGNIFICANTLY better than Jon Martin in his rookie year. I would stake money on it.
K.C. will be in no position to negotiate if Albert is still there, Joeckel is a Chief, while the other two teams that really need tackles have addressed that need. Let the stupid teams go crazy trying to get their tackles (Arizona may trade up to 3). That would be great since it leaves Miami with very little competition for Albert and one of the few teams that actually has the ammo to get him. Rhodes Bernard Two value picks in the third rounds round it out.
Whether that's the case or not (I'm leaning towards a slightly below average LT in 2013), Albert makes more sense. Ireland is clearly annoyed that he has to spend a pick on the position to address it and that Jake did not resign. That said he has never once given away a draft pick so clearly as many believe he's doing right now for an offensive tackle. The pick is Xavier Rhodes.
That's the thing, I doubt Ireland wants to let that **** up his mojo. He has a plan. A year ago it was Tannehill, a year before Pouncey. As he said there's 3-4 guys he wants. I doubt he wants to let this change things for him, to have to bend over backwards to get rookie left tackle.
there is no way to spin that rb is more of a need than te. Clay and Thomas are a wash. Egnew and Gray are a wash They rated Miller in the 1st last year and only have Keller to a 1 year contract Coupled with the fact that its harder to find good TEs later than it is for rbs, I wpould be stunned if they went rb before the 5th round.
IMO, if Albert were the answer at left tackle, the Chiefs wouldn't be looking to draft a left tackle with the first overall pick. They'd simply pay Albert and draft Dion Jordan.
I think they still might. Everyone has Joeckel penciled in but I suspect we have the makings of another Mario Williams moment Coincidentally, PFT is reporting we (correctly imo) value Joeckel and Fisher "much more" than Johnson, wondering if he is really left tackle material. That might throw some cold water on him as a target, or it might be pure spin to influence his drop. THE target may really be Dee Milner, which I think makes the sense if cheap. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/04/11/report-dolphins-like-joeckel-and-fisher-much-more-than-johnson/
He should be pissed at himself for screwing so many of those picks up, not with the reporter for citing history. You left off "slow". Te'o doesn't make sense next to Wheeler and Ellerbe.
because there is some long term cap sense in letting a player walk and replacing him with a high level of talent and a smaller contract? I would draft Jordan number one..
There's really no chance those reporters in question have any real grasp of that history or understanding what it should look like.
I've been saying this since the acquisitions went down. I don't see them shoring up a position via FA, especially with the money they sank into it, just to spend high picks on that same positions, especially with glaring gaping holes elsewhere. For what it's worth, I like Eiffert, but honestly, IF Dustin Keller can return to where he was two and three years ago, that is one serious serious weapon. I forgot how lethal he was but after looking into his stats for 2010 and 2011, I think we are very well off there...if he returns healthy that is. 55 and 65 Receptions with 5 TD's is a nice luxury to have for our Sophmore QB. I never believed Austin as a target, not with the signings they made. Perhaps, if they are still at 12, and depending on who is there, but I think he is probably plan C or D....or not at all. Sorry, JMHO In regards to Te'o. I am in his camp whole-heartedly. I think, because of one silly incident, that happened to a naive islander, he is a possible top 10 guy that falls 15-25 spots. For me, that is SERIOUS value, and we could really use one more linebacker right now. CB is a no-brainer.....kind've. We need one, but there are lots available in the draft. Some should still be there at 2b, UNLESS, they really really covet one of 2-3 guys. THIS might even be the tradeup he was talking about. Have to see how the first 8 or so picks pans out.... IJS. O-Line is also a no-brainer. Damn do we still need help there. It is inching it's way to being better, but you can NOT put a Sophmore QB, who got hit lots last year, didn't show that he feels pressure, and in a pass happy offense without a quality LT. You just can't. Add in that we lost our two best guys at helping out in Pass-pro in Fasano and Bush. This will be addressed, and I also don't think Martin at LT is the situation. Perhaps down the road...but not now. RB. Another serious need. Like it or not, Miller can not carry the majority of the load. Thomas might not be on the roster in a few months if you ask me. It comes down to how Jonas Gray is looking right now IMHO. IF they think he can be back to where he was in College, then it might not be as big of a deal, but if not, we really need a nice RB to feature the load. Fortunately, I also think there are lots of backs in the 3rd and 4th here. Bernard certainly comes to mind, and I am warming on this kid more and more and more. He would be a very nice fit for this Offense I believe, and I don't think he has any injury history. Seems to be a good solid kid as well from some of the insight I have read in here anyways. This is going to a very interesting draft. I have to admit, I have never like the Tannehill pick. I am not going to bash him nor praise him at this juncture, but it is nice to know we aren't going to be targeting a QB high in the draft...especially this particular draft
If you say so. Uhhh...no. Maybe. It's a one year contract but according to Keller they offered him multiple years and he told them he preferred one year at that price. Prepare to be stunned. By the way you're not accounting for two things: 1. Position importance 2. Position durability characteristics
There are a number of assumptions being made about the number one pick right now that it's going to be a LT. The same goes for the 4th and 5th picks which could very well be other positions especially considering Philly and Detroit have other pressing needs (Geno Smith at 4 is another possibility as is a pass rusher at 5). All this talk about the tackles being gone in the top five is based on mock drafts not direct knowledge.
Well, if KC is not taking a LT, why trade Albert? They are actively trying to convince Albert to move to RT or guard based on reports, so, IMO, this would be akin to paying Vernon Carey left tackle money to make a trade for him and give in to his contract demands.
I think that sounds like spin. They pretty well have to know at this point internal stuff is getting out, I think they're going to start trying to react to that. Salguero seems like a pretty convenient mouthpiece.
how are clay and Thomas not a wash, regardless of what you think of Thomas, their production is similar and both have injury pasts Egnew played in what 1-2 games, before that injury to clay he was right with Gray every Sunday. Position importance, this is where I think you are reading jeffy wrong, to me, the way he was jumping around the TE question screams that he values them highly in this new system. We drafted Egnew in the 3rd and went and paid Keller. We got outbid for Cook. Our actions show we value that position. I would bet my house we draft te b4 rb, I wouldnt be surprised if we went TE in the 1st, at 12 or trading back up. Position durability characteristics...I'm not sure what you're trying to insinuate. Are you saying bc rbs ate less durable they should be drafted higher than a position that doesn't get run down as much, Im not understanding this point
Marcus Lattimore has a good chance to be the new RB, round 4. He is supposed to be back up to speed and is criminally undervalued. Round 2 is about as high as you'll ever see Ireland draft a RB, WR or TE imo.
He'd be great in our offense but a good enough chance he doesnt fully recover to make it a big risk. With the amount of talent I expect to be on the board in the 4th, I dont see ireland taking him.
Yep, Lattimore is another nice RB we could score later on. Agreed. This is actually a pretty good year to pick up a solid RB later on rather than very high. Heck, is there a chance we don't even see a RB go first round? Maybe Lacey, but I honestly don't think so. When was the last time that happened. When was the last time that a minimum of 2 RB were NOT picked in the 1st round? Well, going back a long long ways that's for sure. 1984 was an odd one..but including the draft there was a supplemental regular draft for players that had already gone to either the Canadian League or the USFL. Between the two drafts, there was 4 first rounders, with three of them being of the latter special draft criteria 1963 is the last time that at least 2 RB's weren't chosen in the 1st round...... Linky to RB's including round and such http://www.drafthistory.com/index.php/positions/rb
We havent seen him play a down yet.I hope he comes back strong. His interview on grudens camp was pretty inspirational.
I love the enthusiasm and the differing viewpoints, but it is a bit much to profess the ability to know what Ireland is "really" saying because of his nasal flarings and lip pursings. You are basically using involuntary movements to validate your own opinions... seems that there is something wrong with that reasoning.
Quiet killjoy. We are kids in a candy store here. Let us enjoy our everlasting gobstoppers in peace please.
The RB stuff is interesting, the way they're valued now. I think Bernard will be the first picked because of his versatility, quickness, and the fact that he dominated in both pro (2011) and spread (2012) offenses at UNC. He did tear his ACL in 2010, but I prefer that to the nagging stuff Lacy seems to have regularly. I'd take Gio at 2a, personally. For the Phins, we need to draft a legit RB who can carry it 10-15 times alongside Miller who hasn't proven he can be productive with a consistent workload. Need more than a 3rd-down specialist who can block and catch. I think that'll mean us taking a guy with our first 4 picks.
I am skeptical that anything can really be taken out of his press conference. All smoke this time of year. I buy the notion they may trade back into a round because Ireland had done that before. Have no idea about positions that will not be addressed. It doesn't really tell me anything about tight end, offensive line, running back, or corner really. Can any of us really say we are generally on target with one of Jeff's drafts. He almost always throws a curve ball in there, like selecting a position of need late in the draft, or drafting a player no one realized they were really targeting. I fully expect to be surprised this year. I predict there will be at least one or two players not mentioned on this board that are targeted. I don't pretend to know all the angles of the Dolphin organization, and I am glad my job doesn't hinge on their choices lol. I will say this. In a year where the value is in the lower first to the top of the 4th round, it really doesn't make sense to lose the ground that 5 picks in the top 100 brings.
Curious but have we been rumored to be interested in Washington? I know he tore up the combine, but he didn't do much at all at Georgia... He worries me in that regard.
Please, no. Not saying this isn't the case. I am just not a huge fan of Te'o. Additionally, I don't really see how Te'o would fit in with Wheeler, Ellerbe, or Misi. I think Arthur Brown might be a better fit to be honest.
