I understand giving Ireland a pass on the first few years in Miami, Parcells can take the bullet for that. However, Jeff is in his THIRD season running the show, which is enough time to rebuild a team into at least winning record shape (maybe playoffs depending on how things fall). Ireland needs to have a very good draft this year though to get this team close to playoff contention. I hope he does it, but won't feel bad when he gets fired if it doesn't happen. He will have had enough time and resources to suceed -the final team record this year is all on him.

Gronk is big and almost helped win a SB but I really wonder if he will have a very long career.

His 2011 season was the one I refer to with 90 receptions and 17 tds.
2010 with 42receptions and 2012 with 55 and only playing in 11 games isn't as dominating but TD's are tds.

You can't view this season as a "play it safe" year. We've invested... how much money this off-season... on playmakers? It's time we protected our line.

Even the Patriots invest in a Olinemen, ya know.

First of all where in my post did I say I hated him?Nobody gives a **** about pff ranking they care about winning!Like I said until he puts a winner on the field people will not give him the benefit of the doubt so you have no right to bash them so get off your high horse!!In saying this I liked what he has done this offseason and I hope it continues through the draft process and he succeeds which means playoffs not some stupid ranking that doesn't mean **** to anybody.

If it allows Tannehill an extra second per play, I'd be all for getting an Olineman. Huge part of Brady's success in NE has been the amount of time he is allowed in a clean pocket to pick apart secondaries in that system.

It is when you keep drafting offensive lineman and the line still needs them. You can't keep throwing pics at it and avoiding playmakers. Sometimes you have to pick a lineman later in draft so you can get a playmaker. I honestly think we need another WR and a TE. High rounds you draft BPA, later rounds you can draft for need.

I honestly think you need to re-evaluate your understanding of the draft, football strategy, etc. if you need to fill every position down to tight end and slot receiver with resource-intensive acquisitions before you can consider working on the offensive line.

You're also going to pretty much always need to draft new offensive linemen, or players at other positions. It isn't realistic to keep the same five for any length of time.

Your first sentence is contradicting your 2nd.

If Lane Johnson falls to #12 ,and it's between him and Eifert, Johnson is the pick then.

Actually, if you want to look at it that way, he's only in his second year rebuilding the team.... Obviously, the year that Quitcells finally left, Jeffy was acquiring for the Sparano regime...

The teams' success is not all on one person...it's not on the GM, although he gets the lion share of the blame from most Fin fans... Don't forget how terrible the coaching was under Sparano and his staff.... Now, you can say the jury is still out for Philbin and his staff, but it's still looking like there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Couple that with the things that Irish has done/will do and the signs are pointing up....but, as you said, we'll see....

If you continually blame Ireland for our lousy record the first few years he's been here, in the face of all the evidence to the contrary, then the only logical explanation is hate. You being self aware of that hate or not has no bearing on its existence.

I think you need to reread what I said, nowhere in there did I say draft down to tight end and slot reciever with top picks. I said you need playmakers, I think Mike Wallace might need more of a threat on the other side then Hartline. Our tight end is a one year fix. We need to mix up our drafts, you need oline and other spots also. Best playmakers usually go in top of draft, some gems are found later on, but that's with all positions. I never said do all this before working on oline, learn to read. What's with this place lately? I don't have high post count so you immediately degrade my football iq? Wow class act.

If Lane Johnson falls to #12 I would pick him. What I am trying to say is you need to mix it up, we need more then just lineman drafted high. Another playmaker at these following positions I would look at before oline, wr, te, cb, de, s. Since you didnt see that I said BPA, cause you didnt want to read it. If Eifert or Lane was there at 12, I take Lane, he would be the BPA and a need. The oline will always need players, you can't keep throwing high picks at one position all the time, ask the Lions. If said player is BPA, sure pick him. I will clarify my lineman stance for you, if you keep using high picks on the line, and it's not much better now then when you started, maybe you are wasting resources? Like Wake needs help rushing passer. There are no real sure fire great must have players this draft besides the top 3-4 oline man. Like I said BPA.

Last years draft shocked me honestly. Was happy to see us go qb. After Tannehill I liked Miller pick. I still think we need 2-3 more playmakers, one wr or te, a de and cb. That doesn't mean all in one draft. Still drafted Martin in 2nd was it? I hope he still pans out, only been one season. Only playmakers we drafted were the two I said in this post. Wake is getting older, I just feel lineman easier to hit on later in draft.

You said that sometimes you need to stop "throwing picks" at the offensive line and go for playmakers, alluded this was the case with the Dolphins, and highlighted tight end and another receiver as a need. If that's not what you meant, it's pretty well what you said. Also, Brian Hartline isn't likely to be upgraded on anytime soon, and a one year contract doesn't preclude longer term investment.

It's not about your post count, it's about what you post.

WADR, if you were shocked, its because you haven't been paying attention.

Ireland will get players based on the system the team is running.

    2008-2010
    - We were running a Parcells system, so Ireland got possession WRs, all around TEs, pedestrian immobile QBs and giant o & d linemen. (Plus some reactionary WildCat grabs like White)

    2011
    - We had no real system, Parcells was gone and Sparano would be soon, so Ireland was basically rudderless and pretty much went for speed & Pouncey. Brought in Bush (a player Parcells would never have considered) and Moore (a player Parcells would never have considered)

    2012-present
    - Not just a new system, but basically the opposite system to Parcells, so Ireland grabs a perfect QB for the new system (a player Parcells would never have considered), an OT for the system (a player Parcells would never have considered), a DE (a player Parcells would never have considered), a fast seam busting type TE (a player Parcells would never have considered), a small fast RB (a player Parcells would never have considered). So far has brought in Wallace (a player Parcells would never have considered) and Ellerbee, Grimes, Wheeler & Keller (all players Parcells would never have considered)

If people would just put down the pain and frustration of 30 years of heartache for a second, they'd see that up to this point, Ireland hasn't really been our problem.

Here's the funny thing about the Ireland debate:

It was inappropriate for some of us last year to get super heated at Ireland for failing to land the biggest free agent, that being Peyton Manning. Ireland and Miami never really had a shot.

    Flipside:

It is inappropriate for his supporters to act like Ireland is 100% validated because he signed a big free agent this year. That being Wallace. Yes, there were other good signings too, but until we see this roster Ireland has spent the better part of 5 years building (or helped build) have a winning season, the jury is still out.

    Not true at all.

Ireland had zero chance of landing Manning. It had nothing to do with Ireland as person or GM. My god, Tennessee offered Manning lifetime ownership and he turned it down, which shows there is literally nothing Ireland could have done. Nothing.

That's what is so frustrating about that whole thing. You guys acted as if the only reason Manning isn't here is because of Ireland. It was and is ridiculous.

Ireland hasn't spent the last 5 years putting THIS roster together. He started putting THIS roster together, THIS YEAR. Its a whole new system that requires a different type of player, so they are starting over. THIS is part of the reason I don't see his job being in jeopardy.

Throwing picks at the oline, yes I said that, do you even know what I meant by it? I meant if you keep drafting oline, and your oline like ours still remains in a state of crap. You have simply failed. I said wr and te as a need, did I mention everything this year? Did I mention both of those this year? Both those positions could have better players this next year. No a one year contract doesn't mean they won't be resigned, but it also doesn't mean they will be. Since you see to know exactly how I think, yet have just jumped to conclusions. Sometimes to be great, you can't play it safe. By throwing I meant high picks, or trading up to grab Lane. If Lane is there at 12 he will prob be BPA. Just don't avoid adding a playmaker if one is there just to play safe.

Wasn't paying attention? I know all about the systems changing, the coaches changing, parcells leaving. What shocked me was how late we waited to pick a WR when all we had was Hartline and Bess. This offseason didnt shock me at all, I had a feeling Bush, Dansby and Long were gone. I don't find Lamar Miller to be small for the position, 5'10" around 215-220. That is not small for a RB. I love what was done this offseason, hope it translates to wins. Until then it's nothing but ink on paper. I have zero issues with Ireland, since Parcells left Ireland grabbed the coach I wanted. He has been making some good moves, I understand he won't hit a homerun with every pick.

Regardless of the system, the players he brought in sucked. Turner, White, Hilliard, Parmele, etc. He did well on trades and UDFA's though.

Parcells would never consider Bush. I'm asking this in earnest since I was a bit young at the time, but did he ever like David Meggett? Sounds like a Bush clone.

Ireland absolutely has been our problem because his player evaluation sucked. No matter which version of the story you hear, it all has the 3 headed monster reporting to the Head Monster that Henne was just as good as Ryan and Flacco. That's a terrible mistake, when you're holding the #1 pick and one is a very good QB already and the other has won a SB with a well built team.

There were 3 parts to our problem the past few years. Parcells, Ireland and Sparano. Let's not pretend his self-admitted mistakes at WR last year didn't hurt us. Let's not pretend he said on film our team is composed of 4s, 5s and 6s when he's the one who put it together. We had the sorriest WR corps in the league and had to try Chad Johnson, Jabar Gaffney and Anthony Armstrong to be our #2s. That's pathetic.

Keep in mind, I'm at peace with him being here. I'm hopeful for Tanny and Miller, and Wallace. I always liked Hartline, just not as our #1. Hope we knock it out of the park with the draft this year, and get back to winning ways. I'm very excited. I'm rooting for Ireland. But I won't white wash the past. It is what it is.

You simply don't understand the depth of the Parcells blueprint. Ireland was basically shackled by it. All we hear is stories about Ireland wanting a guy that was outside of the Parcells blueprint. You need to re-evaluate your entire take on this because it is absolutely backwards. You simply have to stop thinking that Ireland's evaluations happened in a vacuum, if you ever want to understand this situation.

Yes, there were bad picks, but every GM has just as many in the same amount of time and drafts.

WR was a problem last year. But you're implying it was negligence and that is simply not true. Trades fell through. CJ went full ******. Let's stop acting like remedies weren't attempted or that it just surprised Ireland. He admits he made mistakes in not realizing how high FA/trade WRs were going to get last year. He has already remedied that mistake.

And no, there was nothing similar between Meggett and Bush.

Actually not just negligence, incompetence. He undervalued the market and was caught holding his wang when it was all said and done. He's admitted this. It isn't breaking news.

I don't care if it's Parcells blueprint. Parcells Blueprint led us to 11-5 with a good QB with an admittedly easy schedule. Is Matt Ryan not a parcells style pocket passing big, 4 year starter QB? Parcells Blue Print said draft Matt Ryan and Ireland was on a team that said why, we can get Jake Long and Chad Henne.

Ireland had zero problem with Parcells Blueprint when it comes to UDFA and the draft. Is Davone Bess a parcellian WR? I think the Parcells Blueprint is overblown a bit. For 11 years Ireland was under Parcells. That's all he has basically known. If you're not good at what you do for 11 years why the hell did we give him a job on his own? Defenses of Ireland make no sense.

Jerry Jones, Parcells and Ireland produced a 13-3 playoff team in 2007. Don't tell me by 2009 this blueprint sucked. Unless someone makes the argument Jerry Jones was the piece that held them together?

Be at one with his past. It sucked.

EDIT: Sorry, Matt Ryan is a 3 year starter. I guess that's why he lost to chad henne in the Miami Dolphins sweepstakes.

Parcells blueprint didn't get us to 11-5, the WildCat did. And yes, the Parcells blueprint was outdated once teams started taking advantage of the more lax rules on the passing game. Look to the Indy game for proof where we had the ball for 45 minutes and still lost (or the NO game right after).

I'm promise, you're looking at this entirely wrong.

Are you even reading my posts? I wasn't be facetious when I said it was inappropriate for fans to blame Ireland for not landing Manning. I was making a comparison. Just as those fans on that side of the debate were off base, I believe his supporters are jumping the gun for acting like a big free agent signing vindicates Ireland's career as a GM.

And don't act like the supporters aren't doing this. There has been a very noticeable "told you so" vibe coming out of the Irish fan base this entire month.

Fin, I really enjoy debating things with you. Sometimes I agree with you and sometimes I don't, but lately I really don't even think you're reading what I write before you respond which makes me think I'm wasting my time.

This is more semantics than anything. Also, I don't see how you can possibly suggest the Dolphins have ended up with bad players given their offensive line investments, their problem has been their continued performance at that level for other issues than talent assessment.

Is it outdated? Did not the Ravens just win the superbowl with a traditional smash mouth style of football, traditional drop back passer? Not 100% Parcellian blue print but it's of the old style.I also understand Ckap had great success in SFO but they were winning with Alex Smith caretaking, Frank Gore running, and the defense smashing. 19-5-1 before being replaced.

I don't think I'm looking at this the wrong way. Ireland did not do a good job up to this point. Whether you decide Parcell's blue print is outdated or not, the fact still remains, his blue print might not get you to the promise land but it should get you to the playoffs if you stock the team up with solid to great players.

I'm fingers crossed this year. But it's really on the draft, not Free Agency. Paying Mike Wallace 100 million, I love it, I love Mike Wallace. But let's find our own Wallace in the draft consistently. That way we can get Mike Wallaces for $10 million or less total.
