We're only speculating because the original OP has stated that he's heard that jerr is at 355, his target weight for the start of camp is 340, and if he's a little bit smart, he will get that weight to 325 by the time the season starts... It's really all BS because he should be down by now, his ridiculous weight relative to his frame will only slow down execution and timing during the OTA's and until he gets to an optimum playing weight..
I think Philbin expects - at the very minimum (based on his "I would hope so!" comment) - Jerry to be 340 by training camp in July. Again, at a minimum. So, if it is true he is at 355 currently, he could easily get to 340. If the guy really, truly committed himself, he could actually get to 335 or 330 by TC, imo. But, right now at 355, he needs to/should be down to 340 by July and then by the start of the season in September could go in the 330 range. If that is the case, he should be able to start at OG and be a solid player for us. Of course, it could be he works hard, gets down in the 340's the next couple of months and then shows up in July at 360. These guys can go up so easily. If he took a year off, I honestly think Jerry could get to 400 in six months. It's just about his mind and dedication.
Yep, what JJ should realize is the body has natural set points of weight, when you stay heavy all of the time that is the weight your body thinks it should stay at and that makes it harder and harder to lose weight as time rolls along
training camp starts july ???, just looked on the dolphins site and couldn't find a date anyone know the date?
If you were getting paid a couple million dollars to play ball, would you allow me to train you twice a day and cook gourmet low fat meals for three times a day, all I ask from you is effort in the gym? That's why I have no respect for the ones who don't commit to their craft, it's disrespectful on so many levels, employer, their families, their teammates, their bank accounts, themselves, and most importantly, kids who are born without chances in life..
if this number of 355 is true than this is a big disappointment imo, he had like 3 months to get going and this is all he could come up with ? weak stuff
Training camp started last year on July 27th. It should start a week to 10 days earlier this year as we have to play a game Aug. 4th in the Hall of Fame thingy. That means 5 pre season games for the team this year.
Dietary fat ain't necessarily the boogie man. I'd bet Baby J gets most of his weight from too many heavy carbs. He needs to cut the carbs to lose weight. Cut the grains and the taters. Things like that.
I'm sure it's both C..and worse he probably combines the two in the same meal, which is devastating, and something you just cannot do. Olive oil and the natural fat from proteins should be the only fat this dude is putting in his system, there is nothing wrong with eating wheat bread, potatoes, and pasta, as long as its at the right time of the day, and strategically placed in between workouts, at nite is when you have to ween the prospect, hi protein low carb/no starch at nite is the key to losing serious weight, only snack of fruit or yogurt during the nite... I'm just finishing a 1 month long training program in virginia, man was 267 lbs, incredibly balanced, genetic freak of nature, quick twitch everywhere, so much power and strength, I trained him 3 times a day, and prepared three meals a day for 1 month, were down to 253 as of today and have the weekend to go..he's got to get as light as possible by may 1st..all he did was committ, if a pro athlete cannot do this or have the intelligence to do it, then fu&$ them.
Well, as for wheat, and pasta, since most of it is made from wheat, many people are gluten intolerant, don't even realize it, and shouldn't be eating it at all. Wheat consumption, even whole grain, is the most common culprit for men having that layer of fat around the midsection. Some can get away with it, because they are not gluten intolerant, which basically means they are allergic to it. Grain isn't a natural food for humans, and has to be processed extensively to make it digestible. Natural human foods are those that can be digested absent of any form of technology. Some people are just more sensitive to grains and shouldn't eat them at all, and others apparently can get away with it. Among all grains, wheat is the worst as for percent of humans allergic to it. Whole oats can't be digested at all, and if you ate them they'd come out in your sh!t the same way they looked when you ate them. That's why they roll oats, a form of technology, to make them digestible. Corn isn't great either, but if you can get organic corn it maybe ok for some people. The biggest problem with corn is God damn good for nothing Monsanto and their GMO crap. That company is the most evil entity on the planet today. Anyone who thinks consuming GMO foods is good for them is a blind fool. The safest diet that most humans can follow is to eat only: meat, fish, chicken, eggs, fruits, vegetables, nuts, and berries. Most people are ok with dairy as long as it's raw. There are many people who are lactose intolerant, but only from cooked milk. Not intolerant to raw. Better though not to add dairy to the list. The govt though trying to tell people raw milk is bad, are full of crap. They cook it to extend shelf live. Not to make it better for you. I drank a lot of raw milk in the Philippines. I'd buy it fresh from the cow, at the farm of a local university. Not once did I have any gastrointestinal problem from it. Potatoes are sort of a gray area too. They are a tuber or nightshade, not a vegetable, and there are indigenous people in places like the Amazon who live mainly on Yams. They have a lot of micro nutrients, but also a lot of sugar, so not the best for losing weight. I have heard of people who had allergies to nightshades too. Other nightshades include tomatoes, eggplant, and peppers.
Asking a Mississippi guy to stop eating potatoes is like asking a dog not to bark. It's what we do here. Give me some potatoes with turnip greens, white beans, and a pan of cornbread, and I'm a happy guy.
Not happy to hear this. Not at all. Yet another annual struggle to reach fighting weight, rather than improve strength, refine technique, etc. I wouldn't be surprised to see him cut.
For 30 days stay completely away anything that is made up of or contains, Wheat, Flour, Yeast or sugar and anyone on this board or anywhere else on the planet will lose 30 lbs, guaranteed. I have done it.
I appreciate your knowledge, but relatively speaking, And odds are, he just has no clue of nutrition, and doesn't know how to combine his protein and carbs, and when to eat a liquid diet instead of a meal..key is just to get the right amount of protein every four hours so that there is no conversion..space those meals, shrink that stomach a bit, without the body feeding off the proteins in the musculature.
I'd stay away from potatoes. Too much starch. I wouldn't necessarily stay away from carbs depending on how he's lifting.
Oh, I agree with you. We love potatoes in Oregon too. Next door to Idaho, the most famous potato state in the union and all. But you are likely not a 350 lb person with a very high bodyfat ratio. Baby J can keep scarfing down that sweet potato pie, but it is not conducive with losing weight like he needs to.
For boxers it is not uncommon for them to get fat before entering serious training and to burn away the body fat through intensive training. Whether that is an appropriate strategy for a 20 week season (regular season + post season) I don't know. I can see some similarities between boxing and football in that it tends to be short periods of explosive energy rather than extended periods of continuous movement like soccer. In any event you look at the great O-lines from Shula's day, and they weren't full of fatty bumbars waddling around the field, but guys built like bricks, full of hard muscle mass from their toes to the tips of their hair.
So, not to call anyone out, but I've asked someone who has been around the team and they haven't really weighed anyone officially. Do you know John Jerry personally? Someone who does? Because I don't think the team knows anything pointing to him weighing 355.
I hear they simply take the mass of the earth and minus it from what it was before Jerry was born, to get his official weight.
Giving someone a bunch of money doesn't change the fact that they have no discipline, willpower and are lazy. That's one of the things I like about Philbin, character counts. BTW, I agree 100% with your post but that's just me.
Your right it doesn't, but my main point is when your a rich pro athlete, and you make future monies stemming from your bodies performance level, all you have to do is have a smidgen of intelligence to hire people to help you take care of your lazy ***, I mean you still have to do the workouts but that's it.
You can have meals delivered to your home by Chefs these days. The dedicated/smart players usually take Jan and part of Feb off to relax and enjoy life. Then start working out on Mon, Tues, Thurs and Fridays, all the time watching what you put into your body. There are now workout facilities all over this nation so where they live in the off season really does not matter. Add to that they can add in Yoga, acupuncture etc to stay healthy. Sure its all to stay in shape but the smarter ones also realize they are staying healthy. Hey, you want a beer or a shot of vodka in the off season once in awhile, go for it but they have to be smart enough and dedicated enough to have some kind of self discipline. IMO, even the team does not know exactly what to do with John Jerry. Keep him at guard ? Try him at RT ? Put up with his weight issues ? I believe all of that is going to be resloved in the upcoming weeks as of right now, we have two starting Olineman playing the same position. LG Richie Incognito ( no, they are not switching him ) and center, Mike Pouncey. Martin ? not sure if he is a LT, a RT or a tackle for that matter. Jerry ? see above. I will tell you one thing. Philbin is not going to let the issue drag out for too long. It has to be resolved once the draft is over.
Yup, all valid points, just takes a little smarts and some discipline..for real though, we should know what type of preparation he's been doing since the end of the season, I really see no reason to committ to him if he hasn't made a serious effort to change his ways, and that would mean him not taking two months off.
We will hear something once they all report Monday. Personally, hope the kid woke up, being an NFL player is not half bad life to lead. LOL If he is cut I am sure someone will pick him up somewhere but why bounce around the league when you could have a nice home in a decent part of the world to work in. I can think of a hell of a lot more Sh(*tholes to live in then whats available for the Miami players.
I am not worried about Jerry, one way or the other. I have felt since the end of last season that the Dolphins were going to draft or sign a free agent guard to replace him. He can't be depended on to be in shape and I just don't see him sticking around very long under the Philbin regime. If Philbin had no need for Vontae Davis on the team, a player much better at his position than Jerry is at his position. I wouldn't be surprised to see Jerry gone from the roster before the regular season begins. If the Dolphins can't move up in the first round to select one of the top three LT's in this draft. I expect them to take Warmack or Moore with their first round pick to replace Jerry. Even if they do get one of the LT's in the first round, I still think they will draft a RG in the second or third round to replace Jerry. Signing a free agent RG after the draft if they can't find a starter in the draft also remains a possibility. One way or the other, I just don't see Jerry being a starter on the offensive line of the Dolphins this coming season.
I hope the kid shows up on Monday at 340 and shuts a lot of us up. That wouldn't require a miracle, and he could build on it. A guy that size can lose 15 pounds in a very short time.
I would hope that they apply a little science to this and look at percent body fat. There has to be some reasonable range for a guy his size playing OL. If he has put on more muscle and comes in at 340 that's one thing, but just a fat tub of goo 340 is alarming.
Just about to post the same tweet, Dupree....seems like some of us here owe the man an apology....looks like he's taken some care and learned somethings about professionalism after all...
I really hope he has turned the corner and what he's saying is true. He's always had the talent to be a good player, and the most infuriating thing about him was that we all knew he was the one holding himself back and no-one else.
