Baseball is here. Pretty sure Clayton Kershaw won day one. Complete game 4 hit shut out, 7k's, no walks and a game winning homer in the 8th. Bryce Harper and Chris Iannetta of the Angels cleaned up well too.
Mariners offense off to a great start, first 4 batters to the plate strike out. I'm guessing Hernandez gets about 2 runs scored for him tonight, crazy thing is it may be enough.
I've seen this movie before especially when Hernandez is on the mound Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk 2
Well, after one day of play, here are my predictions for individual awards. AL: Cy Young- Felix Hernandez MVP- Mike Trout NL: Cy Young- Clayton Kershaw MVP- Bryce Harper World Series: Reds vs. Angels
Greinke was stellar in his Dodgers debut tonight. Two hits allowed and no one got past first base. Having him and Kershaw pitching back to back is going to make Don Mattingly look smarter than he is. I they can get get Ryu, Beckett or Billingsley to contribute once a week between the three of them, the Dodgers will be sitting pretty.
I saw both the Ryu game and the Beckett game. Granted it was just one game but Ryu's fastball isn't going to miss many bats, it looks like he'll need to pitch backwards and really count on his secondary pitches to keep hitters off balance. As for Beckett his decreased velocity makes him a totally different pitcher than he was, he looked ok but I'm not sure he's going to be anything more than a #4 pitcher moving forward especially if he keeps using that cutter that doesn't cut, moving to the NL will definitely help him but I'm not sure how much he has left in the tank. I think anything you get out of Billingsley is a plus but I think it's only a matter of time before he needs the TJ surgery, there's not a lot of success stories with guys rehabbing that injury instead of getting surgery. But hey like you said they got Kershaw and Grienke so they'll be ok.
Ryu wasn't bad. lots of hits given up but seems to manage to pitch out of it. Same thing in Spring Training. If the Dodgers had scored at all that game, he would have won (simple enough, I know) In other news, Dodgers trade Aaron Harang to the Rockies for catcher Ramon Hernandez. Kind of an odd trade as L.A. has been pleased with A.J. Ellis behind the plate. My guess is Hernandez takes up the backup role leaving Fedorwitz to go back to AAA. Next one to go is probably Capuano.
Kershaw goes for seven scoreless innings, striking out nine, walking one (that he then picked off) and giving up two hits as the Dodgers win 1-0. He gave up a hit on the very first pitch of the game and the retired the next 17 before the next hit (which was an out and a bad call by the first base ump). Loving the Kershaw-Greinke tandem...to be redundant. Also, L.A. has a major problem with batting with RISP to start the season. They need to fix that quickly.
He's been on borrowed time for awhile now, I think scouts were predicting surgery for him since college. But yeah that sucks for him and the Rays. Like every year, especially for this year, healthy is going to be the biggest factor in who wins the East.
I am pleading for robot umps....balls and strikes bottom of the 9th, TB 4 vs Tex 5 man on 1st 2 outs Hitter Zobrist Pitcher Nathan Mind you, Zobrist did not swing at any pitch, and once again the UMP makes it up as he goes along....horrible UMP....let PitchFX electronically call the game, it would be so much better. 3 balls were called, and 2 strikes were called (that in itself is a joke) in the first 5 pitches, and then low and behold pitch #6....LOL...are you kidding me. UMPs ruin the game.....horrible job. so would have been 1st and 2nd, with Longoria up....and he was 3 for 3 on the night.
Don't know why you guys are complaining it looked like a strike to me (says fan of a non-Rays AL East team)....
Nice little brawl in th Padres-Dodgers game. What isn't so nice is that it appears that Greinke injured his shoulder. In other news, Carlos Quentin is a *****.
And the second time Quentin has leaned into it. 2-1 ballgame on a 3-2 count. It wasn't intentional and Quentin is a douchebag for charging like it was. Greinke had balls to stand there and take the hit, but no brains as he is now out for a good long while. I guess Capuano and Lilly aren't getting traded now.
I didn't see it and I definitely wasn't trying to insinuate it was intentional. Just adding something interesting I heard. Charging because you're hit on full count is all kinds of dumb.
That was the funniest thing I've seen in a while. The two just collided and then bounced off each other. Also, I don't think Quentin is a *****. Obviously you blame him because you're a Dodgers fan but there is history there. He probably felt it was intentional.
"I never hit him on purpose. He always seem to think I'm hitting him on purpose, but that's not the case." -Zack Greinke
I think even if there's history common sense has to prevail here. It was a 1 run game and a full count, why would any pitcher try to hit a batter in that spot. I'm just shocked Quentin didn't hurt himself too, he's a starter on the "Mark Prior All Star Team". According to BR, Greinke has only hit Quentin 2 times (not clear if it counted last night's game in there or not) but the last time Quentin was hit by Greinke was 4 seasons ago.
Apparently there was a parking lot incident between Quentin and Matt Kemp and Kemp reported was heard saying "We'll see *****". Now I can't wait for the next Padres/Dodgers series. I get sticking up for a teammate and all but the Dodgers already lost a top pitcher, do you really want your top offensive player possibly getting into fights in the parking lot? Just beat the team on the field, that's the best revenge.
Nothing will happen next series while MLB is watching. Both teams will be warned before the games. Wait a few months when MLB focus is somewhere else and Quentin is going to get it. He deserves it. The guy gets hit by everyone for a reason. You cant stand over the plate. Brush back pitches happen all the time not that it was the case here. The "we have history" is a bull**** excuse he has been hit over 100 times. Back the **** up man!
I haven't even seen it, I am in a airport going to FLORIDA to get a bad guy right now.....did Grienke do it on purpose?
I think it was against the Braves once when Quentin got plunked and broke his hand (?) The pitch was almost a strike.
Apparently, Grienke shouted something at Quentin after he hit him. Or so I've read. Seems hard to believe.
