Over at PowerMizzou.com we are having an online mock draft. I was given the Dolphins. Just curious of your opinions...

At 12 I drafted Xavier Rhodes

Then I dealt picks 54, 82 and 146 to New England in exchange for pick 29.

At 29 I drafted Tyler Eifert

Then at 42 I drafted Kyle Long.

    Pick 77 Giovanni Bernard

Pick 111 Going to look at best edge rusher or corner available

if you dealt 3 picks to New England, our division rival, then I'm glad you're not our GM.

How'd you end up drafting at 11? Or is that just a typo?

Yes, that was a typo. Definitely did not take into account who I was trading with (just a fellow Mizzou fan). Though, if the Dolphins could pull off this trade with NE, I still think they'd do it.

Moved up from 54 (second 2nd round pick) to 29 (second 1st rounder) for a late 3rd and a 6th. Draft Pick Value Chart (which I know some are not fond of) says it was a huge steal.

We shouldn't have had a 6th as it was part of the Lamar Miller trade last year.

That's a steal of a trade to get back into the first. Especially for a player at one of our biggest needs. Great pick.

Thanks. Finally some feedback! What do you think about targeting another G/T type in the 3rd? DE/S more pressing need?

Apart from trading three picks to NE, which I think we've covered, I like the picks. I'd be more tempted to go for a DE, or even S, in the 3rd now instead of a G/T type, although if all depends on who will be available when you pick.

Safety has a lot of 2nd/3rd round guys like Baccari Rambo, Shamarko Thomas.
Corner maybe with Robert Alford out of Southeastern Louisianna if he hasn't gone already, D.J Hayden, Wreh-Wilson. Probably all gone.
It'd be interesting to see the transcript of who's gone already :)

Ryan Swope still there? If not I'd grab the best DE or safety available.

Take Giovani Bernard, HB or Brian Schwenke (as a G) in rd 3. If you'd prefer defense I say Kiko Alonso, Kasheem Greene, or Sio Moore at LB or Darius Slay at CB.

I don't think you should go WR.

Bernard or Slay would be awesome.

Thanks boys. This draft takes forever (90 minutes allotted to each position), so it'll be a while. (Stops at 6pm CST each day also)

    Another corner over a safety?

I figured once I was able to get Eifert, I'd stay away from WRs. The reason I was thinking another OL was to solidify the right side of the line to allow all the offseason additions to take off with Tannehil. Wallace, Gibson, Eifert.

RB is another spot I was thinking (since I haven't like Daniel Thomas in years).

Shoulda taken Carradine instead of Long IMO. Good job on Eifert though.
I'd say Darius Slay or Baccari Rambo.

Our safeties are solid. Reshad Jones was a stud last year and Chris Clemons isnt flashy but hes solid. CB is a need not safety. Im be pretty happy with that draft....minor criticisms like the fact I like Trufant more then any CB in the draft so Id rather take him over Rhodes. At 42 Long was a fine pick and a player I have a high grade on but not a need...maybe I would have gone Carradine or Hopkins there.

At 77 it'd be killer if you went Stedman Bailey. Hines Ward Jr would look great in a Dolphins Uni. Could also look at a CB or a Gio Bernard (another local Florida kid...)

If we pass on Carradine for Long... phew. That's one upset Crazy685.

That's a tough go, they started a run on OTs fairly early, but I still stick to the my horizontal draft board there I think. Long is a bit of a stretch @ #42, while Carradine is great value at a position of need.

I like Nixon in the 4th + Carradine in the 2nd way more than I'd like Long in the 2nd and X in the 4th, I can pretty much promise you.

Also look at that WR talent available in the middle of the 2nd. Wow.

Tank Carradine was my other choice there. Just liked the idea of being able to use Long's 77 (disclaimer: I'm a Rams fan too) as part of the pick.

Sheldon has a motor that doesn't stop. Ran a 4.7 at his pro day. Used to return kicks in HS. Freak athlete. Raw, with a high upside. I think he will end up being the best DT out of this draft. I'm not someone to just prop up Mizzou picks (was expecting Egnew to be a 5th-6th rounder).

Agreed...also thnk he could flex out and play end, not something Floyd can do, also can see him rushing the passer from an upright position and drop in zone with effective athletic ability.

He could play end, but I wouldn't do it with regularity, I don't think. Definitely has the athleticism to drop into zone coverage (Mizzou used him as a spy from the linebacker spot against Johnny Football). Still has to work on holding his ground when working down the line. He tends to retreat to get space to run instead of fighting through the O-Line. Something he would have gotten had he gotten to Mizzou right out of high school instead of two years at JuCo.

I went with RB Gio Bernard. Was good too because the St. Louis GM who picks right after me was pissed (always nice when you can pull that in a group mock). Edited post above to show current draft board.

    Pretty good job so far.

As has been touched upon, that was entirely too early for Long. I really like the kid, but at this juncture, he doesn't even have a true position.

Rhodes, Eiffert and Gio easily makes up for that though. Nicely done so far.

I actually agree with you a lot, but Olinemen were going off the board quick at that point and I wanted to make sure I got one worth getting. After watching Hard Knocks I'm pretty much an expert on the Dolphins and I felt like they want to get Tannehill as many weapons as possible (which includes the lineman). So after going corner in round 1 I tried to be agressive to move up to get Eifert once he lasted past 25. Then I wanted to go O-Line in Rd 2 or 3. I had 4 OL on my board, Justin Pugh, Menelik Watson, Barrett Jones, Kyle Long, Dallas Thomas, and Travis Frederick. With that many left at the start of Rd2 I was certain I could wait to round 3 before making a call on an OL. Then 3 went down quick. After taking Long, Thomas went next and Frederick about 5 after that. Surprised how many OL were taken ahead of their "projections" in our draft.

I personally don't like John Simon, especially for us. I'd have taken (just looking at the names taken since that pick) Brennan Williams, Zaviar Gooden, Lavar Edwards, David Bakhtiari (he probably would have been my pick), Hugh Thornton, AJ Klein, Swope, Stills or Tharold Simon. Not listed is Brandon McGee and Jordan Hill, but I'd have considered them too.

So basically we get Tyler Eifert and give up potentially Robert Woods, Devin Taylor, and Nickell Robey? I like Eifert, but I'm not sure that is a good deal for us. I'd rather take Eifert at 12, keep the 3 picks and take those same players. IMO, 29th is too low to reasonably expect to get Eifert anyway.

I think it'll end up being simpler than we think. They have one dire need at tackle, they'll take care of it and then they'll address depth by picking talented players horizontally at each draft position. Something like:

    OT- Johnson

Then they take the most talented player they can at a relative position of need the rest of the way.
