So basically a non-denial and a non-correction. He failed a ton of tests and was honest to the NFL teams about it. He's pissed that somebody leaked what he said.
The marijuana thing is at least secondary for me as well. What bugs me is that he can't stop long enough to get paid. He had an obvious and huge payoff for staying clean for a short while and he couldn't do it. I can't fathom why anybody would think he's a good bet to stay clean after he gets a ton of cash and has more unsupervised time.
That's the whole thing really. I bet he's got some stupid rule in his head like he needs the weed to workout so he justifies it lol It's all indicative of a major character flaw.
To me, it is rather ironic that the playing the game of football itself is a bigger potential health hazard than the things the NFL bans because they are a supposed health hazard, like weed and PEDs.
I mean at least he is being 100% honest. And it seems like someone is trying to push his value down some. Will be interesting to see where he goes.
I doubt it's an effort to push his value down. That's just one of those statements that get repeated b/c you can't believe the kid could possibly be that stupid. I spend a lot of time interviewing people in prison and I would say the vast majority are 100% honest about what they did.
If you get kicked from a notoriously lax college program, in a town that you could (as of 9 years ago) literally get a Long Island iced Tea...to go....behind the wheel of a car in an effing drive-thru, then you are a Grade A, Deluxe, Super Grande fack up.
Well to be honest, it seems to me that at least some of the problem could be attributed to LSU as well. How do you let a kid fail 10+ tests without any severe consequences. It sounds like they knew how much he meant to the team and kept giving him slaps on the wrist and warning him to stop so that he could continue playing, before ultimately snapping and suspending him. You have to wonder if he faced serious consequences right off the bat if he would have continued to have problems.
If you're going to smoke it, smoke it! At least he was honest about it. It was a problem. I'm sure teams have investigated. And, I'm sure he's going to be way down the board for some times; for others completely off the board. The real question is has he been able quit legitimately and to substitute something in his life that gives him deeper fulfillment and he holds as greater value? If not, he'll return to it. All the Deion Winfrey [see what I did there ] interviews he does will not tell us anything legit about his current state of mind. Plus, being drafted is a big motivation to stay clean for a few months. That's not the real test.
Granted he is not tall, but tight hipped? He looks like the total opposite of tight hipped to me. If Mathieu is tight hipped, then I want all my corners equally tight hipped. I understand that people may not like him based on his off field problems, but if he was a squeaky clean boy scout, he has the on field talent to be a 1st rounder.
No, he doesn't. He struggles to turn and run with receivers, and he struggles to change direction quickly on double moves. What he is good at is aggressively jumping routes in front of him, but when he guesses wrong, he lacks the quick COD skills and catch up speed to make up for his mistake.
Weed just made RW more aloof then he already was imo. RW was by no means unintelligent, just dumb at times with his decision making.
lol Smokey Badger. I think the 10 tests show that LSU didn't really care that season, then in the offseasob they kick him out...they are cowards
Cowards? The football team tried bending over backwards for him. It was only when it was deemed that he broke an athletic department rule and it got out of the football team's hands that he was kicked out. If they were cowards they certainly wouldn't have kicked him off the team about two weeks before their opening game when they already had a young secondary.
If you think Williams is stupid I question your intelligence. Ricky didn't lime the structure of what we call life, and eescaped it, first through weed then through Australia. They need to just legalize it already so people can realize many aucessful people smoke weed. I don't doubt Obama takes a few hits at night to rest the mind.
From afar I see a program that let him fail test excessively while they were on a National Championship run that he was a MAJOR part of. Then they kick him out in the offseason. Im sure he failed another test and that was the final straw but I feel his final straw should have been on the 2-3 failed drug test. The team cowered to ethics/morals so they could win a championship.
They have championship aspirations every year, they opened last season as #3 in the country. If they were cowards toward ethics and morals before, they would have just done the same thing they had done the previous 10+ times. It was a huge blow to lose Mathieu when they did.
Then why didn't they kick him out after 5 drug test? Because they were in a Championship run. COWARDS
I tell you what, I think the whole "unless you look into the man's eyes and see into his soul" kind of thing is a little overrated. Unless you're a psychologist and you're equipped to evaluate and deal with various personality disorders, I don't trust coaches to look into a guy's eyes and tell that he's really changed. The guy who scares me isn't a Marquess Wilson. Marquess Wilson thought he was being picked on unnecessarily by the coaching staff and he was probably right, and he was too much of a d-bag to endure it for his own sake and the sake of his team, so he quit. You see bad body language on tape. I'm sure if you talk to him he's kind of a defensive guy, maybe even kind of a jerk. You know what he is and you're always going to know what he is. You're always going to keep a guy like that at arm's length and you'll probably never trust him, and he probably will know you don't trust him. You're always actively going to keep your arms firmly wrapped around the exact risk-reward for a guy like that. You don't want a locker room full of these guys but you can handle him and the locker room can help you do that. The guy who scares me is the guy who can fail 10+ drug tests at his school yet (somehow) keep convincing his team to give him another chance, and another chance, and another chance...a guy who can sit in a room with me and CONVINCE me this is indeed a "good kid" that is trying to change. That's a scary animal. That's the guy that's going to stab me in the heart during the worst time when I'm least expecting. That's the guy that's going to get the coaching staff to trust him somehow even if they know they shouldn't, and then he's going to let you down.
You can question my intelligence all you want… fact of the matter is that Ricky Williams couldnt stop smoking weed long enough to do his job. That to me is a dumb person. Am I am sure a lot of successful people smoke weed… do cocaine, do meth… abuse prescription medications… being successful doesnt make you smart.. just makes you successful. As a police officer I deal with people that use weed every day I go to work… trust me… it isnt making them any smarter.
I'll just agree to disagree with that opinion. IMO, his hip fluidity and COD are among his strengths. Probably a moot point to give him this much discussion anyway because the odds are very slim that Miami will take him.
???? Who doesn't have a user name on a forum? I know one person who uses his actual name on this forum, and it is such an uncommon name, no one realizes he's doing it. Mathieu doesn't go by the Honey Badger anymore. So why would I want to call him an insulting variation of that?
Oh, I think he has certainly earned it. Stopped counting at 10? Seriously? I was far from being a model citizen when I was his age, but cmon. Seriously? Of course Society has some part of this, but sooner or later, he has to be held accountable instead. Honest question. How many times would be too many for you? How many times of him getting popped smoking Honey-Pot would it take before you no longer had interest in him as a player?
Doesn't matter what I think. Also, we are not privy to all the inside info on players that the teams get on these guys. As many things as have been reported about him, I'm not even sure how much of it is true. Some probably, but perhaps not all. The bottom line as a Dolphins fan is even 2-3 times getting busted probably removed him from our board. So we are having all these endless discussions about a guy who will very likely never be a Dolphin.
