Getting ready for Sunday AM and reading the PB Post on line whilst sipping some French Roast neat. I found a very interesting article on the Dolphins' capologist - Dawn Aponte. It bears reading. Included in it: That last bit caught my eye quickly. There are more people doing evaluations in this organization than one would expect - and not just on skills and medical conditions. Ross has managed to set up an interesting balance in the division of interests and responsibilities along with what seems to be an intriguing extension of authority. That could, I say again, could, help an organization not make as many obvious mistakes as, say, the Jests in their extension of The Sanchize. I hope!
Here you go Alex. And everyone thought Brian Gaine would be the next great GM. (hmm an IRISH GMing tree?)
She also has a rep as one of the toughest negotiators. That can be good and bad at times. If she is too tough it could lead us to losing some people that we need if she was just a little more flexable. But on the other hand she makes sure we don't make that huge "Sanchize" mistake. Hmmmm, comme si, comme sa.....
This is the typical Ben Volin article. He focuses only on the positive while ignoring all of the negatives about Aponte.
Great so now I need to get an accounting degree just to hang on her level. My word that's a lot of education.
Aponte is a journeyman (journeywoman?) capologist who has been on 3 teams in 5 years. She was fired in Cleveland after an embarrassing contract negotiation with Joshua Cribbs and I highly suspect that she was the one who set up the Eric Mangini interview after Tony Sparano was almost fired in January 2011.
Aponte was offering Cribbs less than he wanted and it upset the fan base and Cribbs. However, it's 2 years later and Cribbs is no longer with the Browns and not even on the team. Just maybe....she was right?
This is a typical Serpico Jones post. He focuses only on the negative while ignoring all the positives about anything.
Nice article, interesting read. Remember when we all flipped out after that HK episode when she said "I told his agent we are prepared to let Ryan re-enter the draft".
"Journeyman?" That's unwarranted it seems to me. Everyone needs experience to grow and mature and develop better instincts. She's been under some smart people is learning the league and is educated. And, I want my capologist to be tough - you don't need a "yes man" or "yes woman" as the capologist. If there is a tough call then the GM and her can negotiate.
Yeah.. Praise and credibility are not two words I associate with the Jets, not anyone who came from their organization. If anything it worries me that they let Dawn Aponte have 'convictions' of her own on player value. The dumb arsed handling of Tannehill didn't put her in a favorable light in my mind, so she's already in the hole with me. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
Can do worse than Tannenbaum's two AFC championships. That team's issues pretty start and end with Sanchez being a PoS. Fair enough to blame it on Tannenbaum, but he gave that franchise several very good shots, more than we have done recently.
I'll be honest: If her name was Dave Aponte, she'd get lauded for having big balls when she starred down tanne and hig representation. Since she doesn't, she's labelled a 'crazy *****'. I admire her a great deal.
