I have been told Jonathan Martin checks in at 318. Broad shoulders, bigger legs from pulling trucks in California. He's BIGGER.

Think of how much bigger they would be if he were pulling a Tundra instead of a Tacoma.

Nice to meet you Mr. President.

Omar Kelly ‏@OmarKelly 3h John Jerry told me he's under 340 at the start of the offseason program. "Its about being accountable to my teammates."

It doesn't seem to me that lying would be the best way to start out the season.

Maybe he moved up to a Tundra but no one took a pic. Then again think how big he would be if he were pulling a Peterbilt. :shifty:

Sounds like Baby J has been avoiding all those buffets then. No more going back for 3rds and 4ths.

 This is real big for the offensive line. I think people have been undervaluing what jerry brings to the table. Yes he has underachieved. But who didnt under the past regime. At the very least an in shape focused JJ is a serviceable starter. That quote says everything i need to know about the morale and direction of the locker room philbin is building. If the perennial couch potato is hustling to stay in shape that sends a clear message to the rest of the roster. Either come to work or be cut or traded/

His big problem coming out of college was always his conditioning. There were times at Ole Miss when he played at 360 lbs. He got himself down to 328 lbs at the 2010 combine, and he posted a 5.15 forty time along with a 27 inch vertical. He's actually a pretty good straight line athlete.

The long term fit for him in this offense isn't there though, IMO. In the long run, even at a healthier weight, I don't think he moves his feet well enough to play in a predominately zone scheme. He was a much better fit for Miami's power scheme of the previous coaching staff. Unfortunately, I think he is a victim of the previous coaching staff's inability to develop players. They didn't hold him accountable for his weight, and now he's swimming up stream for the new coaching staff who will probably end up getting the most out of him. The question is, whether that is enough long term for him to entrench himself into a right side position.

It is huge for the OL. Jerry is very athletic for a fat azz. If he could somehow get into the mid 320s I think he has a shot at one of the tackle spots.

If Lance Louis is healthy....he will flat out beat Jerry regardless of weight. Question though is how well he comes back.

Jerry coming in under 340 is huge win for this team. As scheme goes, Jerry has always been known to have fantastic feet for a big guy. If he can drop under 330 to about 322lbs he can play RT in our scheme, even at his current size he can. I think we should be looking at him at RT instead of RG. Let the new guy fill that, push jerry to RT and Martin to LT. Not saying we don't look for more olinemen but that is where I'd be starting with our current players.

I hope Jon Martin is filling out well and getting stronger. It would be nice for him to pull a turnaround.

    Ideally our line would be

    Martin-Incognito-Pouncey-Louis-Jerry

    backups: Samuda-Garner-Yeatman-rookie

Allow us to draft positions other than OL

God I love hearing the things he's saying. I truly hope he means it. If he came in at 338lbs hopefully the coaching staff sets him some new goals for his weight and drop down even more over the OTAs. This guys at 322-25 could be a beast of a RT for us.

thanks Dup, that is awesome to hear, big poppa took the wonderful wisdom that coach turner bestowed upon him..

338, he looks confident, I hope he knows how to lose weight correctly, says he knows what to do, man, if he can get down to 330 by training camp, 325 by the beginning of the season, we might have some potential to look forward to at guard..

    Good job BIg poppa.

That's what having a real HC does, it makes sure we have quality coordinators as well.

I cannot stress enough just how different this year is going to be. I don't think we fans are ready.

I'm telling you, with everyone (other than Starks) showing up plus Jerry losing weight and Martin gaining strength, it just seems to me everyone is buying in. Not just our players either, but just reading things from pundits and writers around the country. The winds are changing, Deej. Even the league is buying into Philbin by putting him on the competition sub-committee. Listen to the players talk, almost everyone of them has brought up coaching/culture in interviews. Even Ireland can't stop bringing up Philbin.

Anxious to see if one Michael Egnew has bought in yet. Wonder how much that MMA training is going to do him good in regard to his attitude about blocking.

Well, you told me from the get, that you had a feeling, I was the opposite in the beginning, but because I think I realize what your good at in your evaluations, I bought in too, I'm happy I did, people respect this dude..

You know, there was a comment about Sean smith last year where it confirmed to me that he would be let go, ( I didn't want his ***) some folks told me I was wrong and was over thinking it, but apparently Sean came out of the game because of an injury, Philbin met him as he came off the sideline, he asked Smith what was wrong, Smith said something about his foot, obviously Philbin watched the play go down and didnt think it was severe enough to take himself out of the game, so he looked at Smith, and called him a baby and to get back in the game, some said it was just Philbin joking, Ididnt and still don't..he might of been joking a bit, but there was irritation and questioning of the mans toughness goin on imo..

Where you at Sean?... Dude was soft...tried to tell everyone from the get.

He probably was joking with him at the time, but things like that add up over time and create an overall picture. I would kill to have them back on HardKnocks this year.

I am not good at evaluating anything, btw, I just had a teacher once whose demeanor was very similar to Philbin's. He ended up being my favorite teacher and I still think back to and learn stuff from.
