What do you guys think? Did the Fish let Long walk with the intention of replacing him in the draft? Or with the intention of putting Martin on his more-natural left side and replacing RT? There's so much noise around the internet I figured the fans of the team would be the best place to check. Thanks!

IMO the plan was to move Martin to LT and find a vet RT. I still think they'll add a vet RT before the season starts. They'll still draft a T, but I don't think they'll trade up from #12 to get one. I also don't think one of the top three falls to 12 or that they'll take any other T at 12.

Best guess- Martin goes to LT and the Fins replace him in the draft (hopefully Menelik Watson), or maybe John Jerry goes to RT if his weight is under control with Lance Louis replacing him at RG.

Cool, thanks guys. that's what I thought too but I keep hearing this stuff about the Phins trading up to 3 for a LT... I think people just always want to talk about trade-ups and QBs... happens every year.

I believe if we trade up, it will be to get Star or Werner or Milner.

But I am a self described football idiot.

I'd rather we draft at our spot and then trade back into the lower part of the first.

I think the Raiders want to move down and have made the offer to Miami, but I don't think Miami would do it unless the Raider's gave #3 away for something ridiculous like #12, a 3rd rd pick and Bess. That Raider offer is where I believe the rumors initiated from, but it' s not likely to happen.

I don't think there is a lot of mystery, they picked a guy who could play both left and right tackle and reserved themselves flexibility in what they could do.

There is more than enough smoke at this point to assume that they are at least somewhat interested in drafting a left tackle at #12 or earlier.

    Yep. x3 on Raf.

I don't think Martin is a good RT but I think he has potential as a LT. I like him there. If he gets stronger and can hold up to the power rush, I think he can become a very good LT. He has the feet for that and is more finesse.

Assuming the 3 top tackles are gone, and Ireland still wants to address the OL as a whole, I'm thinking the best upgrade would be take Cooper at 12, and move Jerry to RT. Let him, Garner, Yeatman and possibly a later pick like Brennan Williams compete at that spot. Perhaps we end up with a decidedly Tar Heel flavor to our right side with Cooper and Williams (whom we reportedly have shown a lot of interest in)

I'm not a fan of picking up a tackle in the first round. Everyone says this is a deep draft for lineman. So why don't we take a good RT in the second round and use our first round on a potential game winner at TE, CB or DE. Someone who can score points or cause a turnover. OL is vastly important but we've spent high picks and picked up free agent after free agent. It's time to try something else.

I think if all it would take to move to 3, would be a 3rd and Davone Bess....we would've pulled the trigger as fast as possible.

Sorry, is that considered derogatory among Dolphins fans? It's such a common nickname all over... certainly didn't mean to offend.

Considering dolphins are mammals, yeah, it's probably not the best choice of words to use in a Miami fan forum, but if you didn't know any better it's ok. Calling us Fish is like us calling the Patriots the Patsies, the Jets the Jests, or the Bills the Jills. Only difference being in their cases it's appropriate. :shifty:
