Nice win by the Sox last night. Felix Doubront drives me crazy though. He's given a 7 run lead and can't pitch passed the 5th. Maybe it was a little rust from not pitched for awhile due to the rain outs but he really needs to be more efficient with his pitch count.

Also would be nice for the Sox bats to start to heat up.

It is the same with Nova, dont get me wrong I think FD is a better pitcher, but Nova has some stuff with alot of movement.....he drives me crazy why he just doesnt attack the plate....always 60 pitches in the 3rd inning with him....

Yeah I really get annoyed with pitchers that do that especially with a big lead, especially if they are walking guys because they can control that to a certain degree. The Sox were fortunate they didn't have to pitch Koji, Tazawa or Bailey last night.

FD is what he is. He will drives us nuts, try to not eat up innings, and get shelled sometimes, but for the most part he is a great 4-5 guy with a live arm.

Both Mortenson and Wilson did great for the most part, throw strikes, at least be mostly aggressive.

I love anytime Jimenez either does really good or bad. Looks to be much more bad in the future, will be Vanilla Ice at this rate.

Yesterday was the first time John Farrell had a bad managing game for the Sox. He absolutely left in Aceves too long. I understand he was trying to squeeze out another inning from him but he should have at least had guys up in the pen. The Sox were fortunate it didn't bite them. Hopefully he learned from the mistake moving forward.

Anyway another series win, now is time to get greedy and hope for a sweep tonight with Lester on the mound. I must say it must be tough for the Indians, after spending all that money on Swisher and Bourn only to draw a little over 9k for both Red Sox games must be a real blow to them. Sucks for the city and the fans that do care.

Also Craig Breslow and Franklin Morales started rehab assignments yesterday. Will be good to have Breslow back as the 2nd LHRP and role of Morales is up in the air right now but the Sox are having him start in the minors right now. Whatever role he ends up with he'll help the team.

6 in a row. The starting pitching and bullpen have been nothing short of great this year so far.

Ortiz is back in the line up tonight with JBJ being sent down.

Just a fantastic day from the pre game stuff to Ortiz's pre game live speech to the crowd (seriously youtube it) to the game. Ortiz's return to Buccholz pitching another gem to Daniel Nava's big HR. 7 in a row.

Double header tomorrow and Allen Webster will make his MLB debut starting Game 2.

Couple of tough losses, got good starting pitching in both but couldn't seal the deal. Andrew Miller has a big X on his back as guys get healthy.

Yup, the 2nd game hurt a lot, having the lead in the 8th and Koji picked a bad time to finally give up a run. Dempster has pitched very well so far and Webster was extremely impressive. Just 2 mistake pitches that he probably gets away with in the minors, he won't in the MLB. He really has an electric arm, and I wouldn't be shocked to see him up in the rotation and playing a big part in the 2nd half.

As far as Andrew Miller, yeah he's been bad all ST and all season. With both Breslow and Morales on rehab assignments this week and returning soon, his days might be numbered. Especially when you factor in that Tazawa and Koji can get LHH out, I don't see the need for 3 LHPs in the pen.

I am worried about the offense a bit. There are a lot of holes in some of those swings. It's great to finally have Big Papi back but guys like Middlebrooks, Drew, Saltalamacchia and Gomes need to step it up.

Haha, that's baseball for you Susan....

Another complaint that I do have for this team is it seems like in every single win either Bailey, Tazawa or Koji pitch. I'm worried they are going to be burned out by July at this rate. Last night is the perfect example, the Sox are up by 6 in the 8th and Mortinsen couldn't get out of the inning without giving up 3 runs and thus needing both Tazawa and Bailey to finish the game. At some point this team needs to win some blow outs.

Lackey pitched pretty well in Double A last night so he should be returning soon.

I knew Mike Napoli could hit, I was scared of his hip, but he is raking right now. I don't get to watch games as much but I have always loved Tazawa.

I hope Lackey can return and pitch great, but knowing Webster is pretty ready and flithy, I feel much better.

I truly feel Tazawa is the most underrated RP in baseball right now. The guy is flat out good. Yet non-Red Sox fans probably don't even know he exists. I would say he's probably the closer of the future but he might be too good as a set up man.

The Sox do have some rotation depth just in case. With Lackey coming back it pushes Aceves back to the pen. The Sox also have Morales for emergencies but Webster would probably be the guy to step in in case a SP has to be out for any extended period of time. Sox also have RDLR and Matt Barnes, although both have started the year off slow so both probably wouldn't be options until the 2nd half, if at all, this year.

And I do like how the Sox can seemingly go year to year with Napoli by just tendering him a contract each offseason, kind of like they did with Ortiz.

They wanted to start the games early this week so kids still in school would be able to see/watch more of the game before they have to go to bed. Just trying to be more fan friendly this April, also have a lot of give aways at the park like buy one hot dog get one free etc. Small stuff like that to try and win back fans after the past two seasons.

Through 10 home games this year, they have drawn 330k or an average of 33k per game which is 4th best in the AL (sorry I'm much too lazy to look up the NL stats right now) so that's not bad at all. I randomly went on StubHub this weekend and there are tons of good games/good seats available at very reasonable prices right now too. I suspect if the team continues to play this well once mid June rolls around they will start to fill up the park each night again.

Did the Sox have a game last night?

I think it's time to cut ties with Aceves. Rubber arm does have value but I just don't see him fitting in with this time. He got pounded last night, balked twice, walked everyone and then blames the home plate ump and the Sox hitters. What am I missing?

Also Sox sent down Steven Wright due to him throwing over 80 pitches last night and recall..... Daniel Bard! Bard's last 5 outings have been good but he's probably only getting the call due to him being on the 40 man with MLB experience.

Still throws hard and pounds the zone. It was a tough night to hit with the cold and rain too.

I think Colon went something like 23 or 30 pitches without throwing a ball, simply amazing. A pitcher like that is dangerous to a patient team like the Red Sox who take pitches and try to bleed the pitch counts, the hitter is always down 0-2.

The game was over in the 3rd when Aceves seemed to lose focus with 3 walks, two balks, forgetting to cover 1st, then his throwing error to home. Wright, who hadn't pitched since April 9th, was simply left out to dry and he was finishing that game no matter what, thankfully the rain helped shorten the game.

Gammons is reporting that the Sox have let the rest of the teams know Aceves is available. Farrell said that if Lackey can't pitch on Sunday Aceves isn't an automatic lock for that spot, it could go to Webster.

Aceves sent down to Triple A, he still had options, no word on who is getting called up to replace him. Not many pitching options on the 40 man roster. Maybe the team is going to call up another hitter due to a possible injury to Victorino. Either way I'd be pretty surprised if Aceves plays for the Sox again.

EDIT: Ryan Lavarnway is being called up.

Anyone else tired of Carl Crawford (and to a lesser extent Adrian Gonzalez) STILL whining about Boston? On the plus side, at least it's funny listening to Peter Gammons rip them for it.

The past two days there have been two articles (ESPN and USA Today) on Crawford talking about Boston and how he was never happy and how he had a rough time there and was treated poorly (which is completely false). It seems like all he does is talk about the Red Sox. He just really needs to get over it as he's sounded like he wants a pity party thrown for him, it's like he wants people to feel bad for him. Just stop talking about the Red Sox, especially if you're so happy in LA etc.

Yes both Crawford and Gonzalez have gotten off to good starts this year, on the flip side Beckett doesn't look very good. Like you said it's only April. Gonzalez is still hitting, just not for much power, but on another plus side he seems to be walking more. And Crawford has gotten off to a good start too, expect obvious regression as his numbers off of LHPers this year are no where close to his career numbers. I don't think Crawford is finished as a player but don't know if he'll ever be "Tampa Bay Ray Crawford".

Again even if Crawford and Gonzalez go back to being the superstar players they were in the past, if I'm Boston I still make that deal.
