Clark Judge of CBS Sports tweeted out that the deal would be "on hold" until after the first round so that the Dolphins could see how Thursday plays out. Since speculation is that Miami would give up no greater than a second-round pick, the Dolphins and Chiefs do not appear to be in a rush to get a deal done before Thursday's draft starts. Surely this is basically a which 2nd do we give. I like our chances for it to be the latter one. If not, hopefully the fact that we have parameters in place now would mean the guy would give Miami preference in FA.
I am not convinced they are fighting over which 2nd rounders but KC just getting a 2nd from us, Ireland could be playing stingy and saying a 3rd and no higher.
I don't get why this coaching staff wants to trade Bess. He is one of the best slot receivers in the entire league. I am not convinced that Gibson is as good as Bess, much less a better WR. I guess since Bess is a free agent after this coming season, the Dolphins don't have any interest in signing him to a new contract. I just hope it doesn't come back to bite them in the butt, like the trade of Wes Welker did after they traded him to the Patriots in 2007.
Im not saying I agree with signing Gibson but since they did, it makes Bess expendable. I do not think anyone would argue that signing Gibson to replace Bess seems like a lateral move in terms of the offense and is a step backward on special teams. With that being said if they do not make a move that bundles Bess in a trade for more picks or another player that fills a need then it makes no sense to of signed Gibson at all. There is no real decent reason to keep both of them on the roster. I'm very much so in favor of getting value out of Bess by trading him.
I'm not crazy about Gibson but I think a Bess trade has more to do with Gibson than it does Austin/Eifert/Swope/whatever slot wr you want to pencil in here. Lets not forget we have a promising young wr in Matthews. I'd love to have Austin or Eifert and I think in the long run its the best move but Ireland I believe will go for need areas. Line and secondary
If this is factual, I suspect Ireland will do whatever he can to move up and select one of the top three LT's in this draft. It also would not surprise me if he doesn't take one of the top rated RT's or one of the two top guards with the 12th pick in the first round. I have felt for weeks that Ireland would take an offensive lineman with this pick. I was hoping the trade for Albert would go through today so it would open up the possibility of drafting another position of need in the first round. As much as I would love to see the Dolphins draft, Eifert, or one of the top rated CB's or defensive linemen still on the board when the Dolphins are on the clock. I just expect them to draft an offensive lineman. So when it happens, I won't be surprised in the least.
No... In fact, I like it better. I think Martin has been unfairly labeled a bust. Albert costs a ton of money and RT is not suited for Martin. Let the kid get bigger and stronger (which a recent report is saying he did) and let him focus on his natural position.
probably a pipe dream but somehow i would like to get jamar taylor, jonthan banks or menelik watson with the 2nd rounder, than get bailey or swope in the 3rd and from there on its all for depth
Yes. Unless Martin improves dramatically over last season. Winston has been cut by what, two teams in two years now? He's also a very outspoken guy on the players rep side. There's alot of teams that simply don't want him in the locker room because of that. I'd assume we are one of them too with the way we rid Long, Bush, and Dansby out of town for their "leadership council" stuff.
Problem tho. Say we get Taylor and Bailey with the picks. We are left in the dark at left or right tackle.
Well there are still some free agents available like Winston and Clabo. Maybe Yeatman will develop more and become a viable option. As much as I hate the idea of having a patchwork line, it might be reasonable if taking those other guys bolsters the team.
Endgame tonight for Ireland. He walks out with Swope, Albert and a DB or TE, he played this offseason like a ****ing fiddle. Which is something I never thought I'd type at this time last year.
I think we can get a RT later in the draft or even after teams make more cuts in training camps.Who knows. Maybe Albert becomes an option for a pick in next years draft. He may go to camp and act like a monkey and they want him out.
If it happens, this i going to be quite impressive. the ball really is in our court at this point, as we clealry have shown we're not running around in a panic about the LT position. Irelands trying to get them to 'accept' (one of) our third and this is the best way to do it.
Simple negotiation technique. They say 2nd rounder we say 4th rounder. we settle for 3rd rounder. Get'r done u irish fuk
If this comes to pass, even a guy like PSG might have to soften his stance on Irish.... Just kidding, PSG....
Frankly, with the guy's contract demand, including wanting a long term deal in addition to an elite salary, I've thought all along a 4th was about right.
Plus a 7th this year a 5th next year just to confuse everyone to the point both teams say great lets celebrate and move on.
Hell, I'd package whatever the bottom 3-4 pics are, nothing higher than a 5th. You look at the roster, and what chance do 5th / 6th round guys have of sticking? Competition will be steep.
I still like whoever on here said the idea of trading maybe a 2nd for eugene monroe from jax being that they just drafted joeckel.
Mr. G @The305_Gryphon10m Before draft Fins were called by Jags informing them Joeckel was the pick and that Monroe was available.Fins ended talks with KC on the spot
