    AMERICA!
Considering we traded down and then back up seems pretty close to a wash to me.

Trade chart wise it was a wash. But really we moved down 11 spots in the 3rd, a 5th and mr irrelevant to gain a high 4th. I can live with that.

How much Will Davis have you seen? He was a top 100 pick on an awful lot of boards. Getting a good player with upside is. Good use of picks.

This is a great example of the irritating thing about the draft. The casual college football fan only knows big names and ball watcher players who they probably only saw in a Bowl game. If team A drafts a player the casual fan hasn't heard of, that's it. Mutiny. It's hilarious.

That's because those fans had somebody else in mind they had heard of, who is a player who is no more or less likely to make the future contribution the selected player is, though in their minds the player they knew would've been a "much better" pick.

There is a precision in predicting the future going on here that is completely out of touch with reality.

Based on this particular draft chart: http://www.gbnreport.com/tradevaluetable.html

    Pick 93 = 128 pts

    Pick 109 = 76 pts
    Pick 146 = 33 pts
    Pick 224 = 2 pts
    Total: 111 pts

    Math: +17 pts

Another trade in which Ireland got positive value in a trade while moving up in the draft.

My preference would have been for them to move up and take Bailey before the Rams grabbed him but that is just my hindsight wishful thinking.

I prefer to use this site too because you can plug in the picks and get a percentage value for each team in any trade: http://www.calculatorsoup.com/calculators/games/draft-pick-value.php
They also have a customizable table where you can plug in your own values for each pick and it will calculate them.

Using the calculator we got nearly a +31% value out of the trade with the Raiders for #3 overall.

    Thank you!

We traded down 11 spots in the third round and consolidated our mid fifth round and mid seventh round for a high forth round pick. Good move by Ireland, IMO.

I understand the math but 1) why take a chance if the eventual player he traded back up for was there?

Answer: Because he thought he would drop and gain another pick in the process.

    OR

2)Was the eventual player picked, really his original target?

Answer:we most likely will never know.

Ireland addressed why we moved back up. I don't understand how you all seem incapable of seeing that. Ireland had three targets with the third round pick, he traded back when they were all there and he felt they could get better value. 2 of those targets left the board in a hurry and Jeff was afraid they would all be gone. Him trading up was very smart imo.

Tackling can be taught. Aggressiveness and ball hawking instincts cannot. Davis will be fine.

Sure it matters. Why would someone make a list to begin with? if it wasnt in order of skill level..etc...

AND AGAIN who told you he was on that list at all?

It is implied by the fact Ireland traded 3 picks to go up and get him. Ireland had played a pretty smart draft up to this point, and tried to get too fancy. List could be by skill level, it could be by position, it could be just on personal opinion, or it could be on their estimated fit within the organization.

That could imply he was in full panic mode and got what he thought he could.

Personally, I think he was lucky to find a trade partner.

So again just take the player you want when you get the chance and stop being "cute" 'fancy" about it.

It's puzzling how we traded out of the third round and then back into it...Like what the hell man?
As for the pick I like the Davis pick. I've read up on him and he seems like a hard worker and seems like a guy that wants to to be good in the NFL. Now if you have all the physical tools to be a good player in the NFL (which he has) and a work ethic to go with it, I think the chances are pretty good that he'll do some good things for us. I know the Steelers were interested in him as well from what i've read. Utah State has produced some decent looking NFL players the last few years. Bobby Wagner has been a good linebacker for the Seahawks. I like the Davis pick very much. We addressed a need at a skill position and that is always a plus for me. I like the Dallas Thomas pick too. I like all our picks so far. You guys are whining about this player or that player when in all reality none of us have a clue how any of these guys are going to turn out. This draft will be like every other draft. About 2/3 of the first round players will have long careers, about 1/2 of the second round, about 1/3 of the third round and so forth.
I can't say if Will Davis and Jamar Taylor are going to end up being shutdown corners but i'm a hell of a lot more excited about them than I was Richard Marshall and Nolan Carroll.

I agree with you on the bolded. The pick works for me though and I do not feel like Ireland was in full panic mode as much as he was worried he wouldn't get his guy. Like I said earlier, his deficiencies can be taught and corrected. His intangibles though make him a dangerous CB.

I don't understand what's puzzling about the trade. He had 3 players in the 3rd. All 3 is still on the board with our pick so he felt like at least one would be there early in the 4th. When 2 of the prospects went. He traded back into the 3rd for Davis. He picked up more value and still got one of his 3

I didn't know a ton about Davis. I had seen him, but he never really caught my eye. When we picked him, I went back and watched some film, and I was underwhelmed. Mostly because of the games I chose to look at.

Boomer, you've changed my mind. Davis wasn't a bad pick after all. I also appreciate you not acting like a tool when UCF FINatic simply questioned the pick, like some others here chose to do. We all love our Dolphins, and we're not all experts on every player. So, sometimes we are wont to have a knee-jerk reaction every now and again.

Anyone believing Davis was on the list to begin with has been riding a donkey far too long for their own good.

Like Ven pointed out, I watched the La Tech game in which he had poor tackling effort and looked awful. I'll have to throw in the other games you mentioned. I got home late from the bar last night and only watched that one game and just extrapolated from there. I know you aren't supposed to do that, but it was late. I did see him excel in coverage though, he can really stick to the WR. He has good ball skills too.

Thanks for your insight Boomer! I am more excited about this pick now.

Dolphins went to the Utah State pro day and worked him out there, then flew him out for another workout. Fair to say he was on the list in the third round.
