Showing off your date reading skills?

One question Shou, what happens if Swope is ROTY? Does the premise become that GMs are overwhelmed by an abundance of data and should just listen to their fan base? It's not like the draft is a high success endeavor.

Yes, if Swope wins Rookie of the Year, then that most certainly becomes the premise. However, if he doesn't, then we'll stick with this one. ;)

Your premise is flawed then. The success or failure of a single mid to late round pick is not statistically relevant. The failure rate in general is too high. You need to show trends.

    Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

You know something....you're right, the team DOES know stuff we as fans don't and THAT is why we didn't draft Swope, you're a 100% correct. No argument from me on that.

Now that, that is settled let me ask you a question............

Why didn't this team draft another QB to replace the offensive speed bump that you believe is one Ryan Tannehill...but they did bring in new receivers and get rid of Bess?

Is it maybe this thread should have been titled The Ryan Tannehill Lesson and this thread is really you projecting?

    I eagerly await your answer.

My take away is that fans should realize GM's are surpemely cautious types who have exclude them lists.

Consider, Lattimore's knee was shredded, no problem, Swope had 4 concussion, teams stayed far away from him.

Food for thought moving forward, as was said on twitter, now college players will not expose themselves to this even if they have a concussion, it can ruin their careers.

I think the difference is that a surgically repaired knee or shoulder can be as good as new, concussion only gets worse and the NFL specialises in giving WRs and RBs head trauma.

I think with more emphasis and research into concussion that players with concussion risks are going to be avoided more and more. To paraphrase what Jason Taylor said about Trent Green - why bring in a guy who is one hit away from celery.

It appears to me his point is none of us should express any opinions in the form of posts on the forum about any of the draft prospects because we do not have access to all the info the teams do. So no more talking about the draft ahead of time, just shut down the forum from the end of the season till the end of the draft I guess. Shouright in his typical high-faluting style has just pointed out how none of us are qualified to discuss draft prospects before the draft.

Didn't shouright teach you a lesson that you or any of the rest of us are not qualified to know which players we want the Dolphins to draft and when?

What trend, exactly? That NFL teams do a better job of picking players than do fans? Is that something you feel is up for debate?

    I don't understand...

are professional likely better than not-pro in talent evaluation? of course they are

are they infallibles? of course they are not...

do they all see the same things in the players? of course not (I guess there is some discussion inside the scouting department about the different players and different evalutaions between different teams and so on...)

so, is there space for different opinions and guessing, about team needs and player's skill? of course there is....

Devils advocate: No-one here has a job riding on this. Slight character and injury concerns can be more freely discarded. No-one thinks they have all the information, but watching football like a drone with no opinion would be terrible.

I did. Unfortunately at that stage I wasn't privy to the knowledge that he had had at least four concussions at TAMU alone. In the modern NFL, that hurts him, hence the fall.

Tom Brady went to the 6th round... 32 GMs can get it wrong. Fans are allowed to make their own opinions. The draft is more of an art.

For all that Swope could potentially be, the concussion history is what doomed him. Sherman probably knows as much about him as anyone, so that should tell you...
