Posting this here because I'm curious to see what you all think about what happened to Matt Barkley and it is just going to get buried in the draft thread -

Lol @ Barkely. Proves 2 things - It's never a good idea for a guy projected to go in the top 5 to stay in school. I hope whoever talked him into staying feels real ****ty about themselves.

Reinforces how little some of these talking heads and even NFL GMs really know. Last year so many matter of fact statements about what a great prospect he was, almost as good as Luck, blah blah blah. Opinions that you wouldn't think one off year would change so drastically. This year he's being discussed so casually as if he's always been a mid round candidate. As if these same talking heads never made sweeping statements about how amazing he was.

Just hilarious and really sad at the same time. Anyone wanna crunch the numbers on how much it cost Barkely to be cool and stay in school?

To add, us fans are just as bad. We change our minds just as soon as we hear the talking heads change their mind. And some of us callously pretend we knew it all along that he was a "4th rounder".

Not that I know much, but I liked Barkley last year better than all but Luck. This past year I saw very little college ball outside of UNC so I don't really know what happened with USC and Barkley, that talent didn't just disappear though. He could end up not working out but I'm really glad with the Bills and the Jets taking a QB, that Barkley stayed out of the AFCE.

I didnt think he would fall like that, but Ive said all along that there isn't a single starting QB in this draft. Didnt like him last year either. He went where his talent and not hype would dictate IMO but I thought he'd go early second or maybe even be reached for in the first.

The difference in Barkley's season this year and last year was time to throw IMO....a lot of QBs shrink when the heat is on.

Also I can imagine he was pretty complacent in his desire to improve since he was already touted the Heisman winner and likely to play the championship game. Things went south. Sounds like he is pissed and will prove everyone wrong, but honestly you never know what's inside these Spoiled California QBs heart. We shall see.

You forgot the part about getting the living crap knocked out of him a couple of times.

Depending on the situation, I think he could still be a good NFL QB....but only time will tell.

I have a different take on it, #1 Lane Kiffin is a Saban like tool and Barkley never should have listened to him.

Kiffin convinced Barkley to stay at USC b/c they would compete for a national title this year.

Barkley should have seen the massive dump Kiffin took on UT and politely applied for the draft last yr.

Is that what you want in a QB? I would hope that isnt the case but who knows.

I do think he will be the most successful QB in this draft...but I see him as very solid backup and journeyman starter possibly like Matt Moore in a way.

In a QB I'm investing in to be a franchise guy?? No. But in the 4th round, I'm okay with taking the chance.

Perfect example of what I'm talking about. Maybe you really weren't high on him last year, but I sure didn't hear too many people saying he wasn't worth a 1st round pick then. Too many people in the media and fan base are pretending this kid was never viewed as a better prospect than RGIII before deciding to stay in school.

Me, I have no idea if he's good or will stink. I don't pretend to know. But the talking heads that get paid a good living are supposed to have a clue and prospects like Barkley prove most of them are throwing darts at the wall.

I'm not trying to say Im a genius or always right, I'm often very wrong just like everyone else. I just meant I never really liked his game, and was glad he stayed in school because I didn't want him in Miami with that pick. I did think he would go first, though I thought his talent dictated early second.

I just never saw a true franchise guy.

His stock dropped almost as bad as if Obama was his manager.
