I'm hopeful Dion can become a star for us.

If he puts on about twenty pounds and is allowed to rush more than he drops this could be a very very fun D to watch.

My only regret is that by the time Dion peaks in a few years Wake will be declining.

Olivier Vernon is a few month younger than Jordan. Hopefully Wake can groom us a couple of studs.

I don't want Dion anywhere near 270lbs. It would negate his ability to be fast and athletic in coverage. 260lbs, ok. But 270lbs only if he way playing with his hand in the ground most of the time , and he won't in our system.

Some media are underestimating this kids strength, he plays with leverage and balance, with long arms..great stiff arm.

It's funny he made the Lawrence Taylor reference, I mentioned it in another thread, sometimes the way he moves I get a flash.

I think I'd bring JT to mentor him a bit. It took JT a few years to figure out how to rush the passer at his weight. While DJ is heavier than JT was it might shorten the process if DJ can pick up a few things from JT's experience.

jt's long reach led to him accumulating so many reach around sack+fumbles that dion should make every effort to emulate. In his prime it felt like jt did it every other game.

Mando tweeting that Dion Jordan is working out today, on a limited basis because of his injury, with his hands in the dirt DE-style.

I dislike the nickname "Praying Mantis".

Just "Mantis" would be better I think, has a better ring to it, but even that is kind of...blech.

Someone on FH named him "Avatar" because he's such a tall, sinewy, freaky athlete. That might fit better.

    Agreed on dropping "praying".

However, if you replace it with "The", then you get "The Mantis", and that sounds better.

I don't know, this guy was a risky pick but somehow its given me more faith in Ireland. I seriously doubt Parcells would have had the sack to even trade up, let alone for Dion. I was shaking my head when a trade was announced....I knew it was us and I thought we had just sold the farm this year and possibly next .....for an olinemen. After seeing who we picked and what we gave up I was impressed with the move. Somehow its fitting that he is so much like JT (my 2nd favorite Phin all time behind Marino). I saw JT talking about him before the draft and I thought how great it would be to get him but I didn't think we'd move up or if we did that it would be for Dion. I'm excited about seeing him play.

    SI..

"“Obviously, everybody can get better, but I don’t see any weaknesses,” Oregon defensive coordinator Nick Aliotti says of his former standout player. “Without a doubt, if Dion Jordan learns the scheme — and what they want it to do — he can play all three downs, whatever way shape or form you want to use him.”

"“For me, it doesn’t make any difference,” Jordan says. “I understand the game of football, whether 5-technique (defensive end) or standing up outside at linebacker. I feel like I have a great understanding whether it’s a 3-4 or 4-3 defense.

The Leo is what his dcoordinator thinks he would excel at.

“He’s got frightening athletic skills, and he’s a year away,” Mayock said at the combine. “He would be a situational pass-rusher Year One, and if he puts 20 pounds on, I think he’s going to be a perennial All-Pro.”

Says Aliotti: “The sky’s the limit, just because of his make-up. A lot of good athletes don’t have the right attitude, but he’s got it all.”

    For my Sensai..

"While the fairly recent move means that Jordan remains a bit raw as a prospect, his experience as an offensive player — not to mention 4.6 speed and height/weight measurements that are similar to Green Bay tight end Jermichael Finley or longtime great Tony Gonzalez — can play as a positive in scouts’ eyes."
