You are assuming DJ. If you are reaching a conclusion with just assumptions, then are you not as guilty of ignorance as you suppose Wallace is?

The comment was insensitive, no doubt. Throwing that comment like that on twitter without the benefit of context a conversation affords you, was stupid too. But the reaction of people here suggest something more.

Everyone is bashing Wallace for his supposed homophobia and ignorance. His twit does not show that. People are assuming so. People are being guilty of the same ignorance they are reprimanding.

Down Syndrome is a genetic disease, a mutation. It might not be a disease like a cold, but it a disease.

even if it is a "choice" then it is the result of something firing in his head, which makes it chemical, which makes it what? Something genetic/physiological.
I really don't care what wallace does/doesn't say. But, I can see why people find it offensive.

My narrow viewpoint? Perhaps you can elaborate. Which of my views do you find narrow?

I just wanted to point out that comparing it to Down Syndrome was not right

I wish he didn't say it. I don't find what he said offensive but it's a **** storm.

The real problem isn't what he said or how he feels.

The REAL problem is that he put it out there for virtually millions of people to see it.

He's free to say and feel what he wants, but if he puts it out for EVERYBODY to see, he can't be surprised or,upset at what he has coming back his way.

Just keep your controversial opinions off tweeter or farcebook or whatever other public media. THAT is where he crossed the line.

Exactly, imo he was more of a punk by deleting the tweet, if you are going to say it, stand by it.

You said it, you own it.

If people at this point in their lives haven't seen enough physical evidence, their just lost in their beliefs or blind faith.

It's semantics really, but genetic disorders are diseases. But it matters not, my original point still stands.

It was a dumb thing to say. He's ignorant if he thinks being gay is a choice.

But, he apologized. He wasn't being hateful, just dumb.

It's a realistic one given there's no current scientific evidence that supports your theory.

Collin's announcement, clearly precarious, was in effect, a call for tolerance from both peers and fans. Wallace's ignorance is an embarrassment to himself, and all he represents.
He has since expressed an apology, which in effect is also a call, and one I believe equally worthy of tolerance.

People are coming to logical conclusions about Wallace's beliefs, based on an opinion he gave that is consistent with the opinions of homophobic people who've came before him. Mike Wallace wasn't being forced to comment, nor was he simply asking a question. He was giving a strong opinion about a headline of the day.

I wonder how often the "I know you are but what am I?" argument has worked for you in the past that you've resorted to your double standard argument so quickly here?

and that's the problem, he thinks it's a choice..and the prejudice will continue in this country, which all results in bullying and murders, folks who think like this are ignorant to the highest level and dangerous to society.

No. I cannot. And I probably should not have been so absolute in my post when I said they aren't.

Do you have any proof that shows it is, though?

The thing is, in his original tweet, he was knowingly expressing his ignorance. That people should choose to respond with hate and insults instead of education and knowledge, should also be something to note.

Trait would have been evolved out over time.

However, that is neither here nor there, Deej makes a good point about stuff like this can drive people who are not feeling good about themselves into drastic, and self destructive, acts.

lol How's that a problem if he thinks it's a choice?

The only problem would be if he thinks it's a choice and then goes on to degrade people's choice, which he didn't do, imo.

I'd much prefer someone to realize that they were wrong and change their tune after saying some dumb ****. I realize I am on thephins.com, where no one has ever said, "you're right, I'm wrong", but I like to think that people can overcome their prejudices after being faced with evidence to the contrary and we can all move on from our backwards ways rooted in superstition and ignorance.

Alot of gay people here not finding what he said offensive and I would suspect a large part of the gay community wouldn't it either. Some funny comments in here too, this is my favorite:

"Miami Dolphins number #1!!!! Gay people rule!"

I think that says it all for me.

Eh, for me, it would be more impressive if left the tweet up, then examined the entire issue deeply then drawn a conclusion that made sense to him.

What he did was, and it happens a lot, is allow himself to blown like a leaf in the wind instead of owning it but with a foundation not just whatever biases he was told to have.
