    Depends, to me Tannehill was not running gimmicks in 2012, no Wildcat to bail him out in the RZ, no read option to inflate his numbers, a good part of the yr was THill in the pocket making decisions.

    I give him a few seasons unless he completely craps out. Also this is not the real question.

    Reggie Wayne was their best playmaker (outside of Luck himself), and he most certainly wasn't a rookie.

    I'm looking forward to watching him speed up the offense a lot more. More hurry up offense and less walking around. I'm keen to see how much faster he recognises the defensive line ups, blitz recognition, protection adjustment, coverage reads etc. The practice speed has to translate more into the games now. If he works a little harder on his deep ball he'll be a more complete QB.

    He wasn't that far off from Andrew Luck. I'm sure if Miami had a Reggie Wayne caliber type player RT numbers would have been better.

    It's a loaded statement though, Wilson, Luck and Griffin are all pretty much already at their ceilings and Tannehill was a two down from them last year, so being most improved also means he wasn't as good his rookie season.

    But calling him most improved is a lot nicer than saying he sucked less than he did previously, right?

    Well away from here
    I think since the majority of the offense is the same as what he ran in college, and that the same man is calling the plays it should negate that much of a slump. Typically the second year the OC gives a young QB more of the offense to handle. There are different throws to be made and in many cases its a case of sensory overload. That part of the 'slump' I think Tannehill handles well enough.

    What will be interesting is to see how Tannehill reacts to defensive coordinators having a year of tape on him and what the offense likes to do. To me that is the bigger question and the part that will pose the biggest challenge to Tannehill.

    What Tannehill did last year with arguably the worst receiving core in the NFL really impressed me. Now with a strong receiving core, I can't help but feel that big things are coming this kids way. This is our franchise quarterback and will be for the decade. If last year was any indication, we have a helluva future to look forward to!

    Pretty much a no-brainer as the competition is betweeen Weeden and Tannehill...Wilson, RG3 and Luck are already performing at such a high level there is not as much room for them to grow. If Tannehill gets to the big 3's rookie level at the peak of his career I would be happy.

    :up: I agree, although last year may not be the best film to study his tendencies considering many feel that last years receiving core was very weak. It will be fun to see how much his game changes with an upgraded receiving core.

    Considering RG3 is injury prone Tannehill should pass him before careers end.

  16. I am as jaded and skeptical as it gets when it comes to the Dolphins. They have broken my heart for far too long. I have to admit that RT was a pleasant surprise last year.

    I do not judge him based on what the rest of the rookie class of QBs did. I judge him on what he did against the defenses he faced. IMO he showed lots of moxy and poise. He lead his offense and he was calm cool collected while under pressure. He showed confidence in his abilities and courage when under fire. I was also impressed with his reads and the amount of time he made them in (room for improvement but good 1st year)

    Still not sold on him and not buying it was his surrounding cast that held him back.

    This year I want to see better accuracy. I want to see him place the ball where he is leading his reciever to make more yards. I want to see him stay one step ahead of what defenses are predicting him to do now that they got film on him to game plan around. I want to see him execute when the game and the season is on the line. I want RT to make me a believer in him. When he does these things I wil jump on the bandwagon with the rest of you and I will be louder than all of you combined cheering for him.

    I know he can be more accurate, what I don't know is if he can be a tru playmaking QB when protection breaks down, or the 1st and 2nd read are covered.

    I think we started to see that come out of Tannehill later in the year (IMO, probably after his knee was better). We saw him break off some nice runs and move around in the pocket a lot better against Seattle, New England - the 1st game, San Francisco, Jacksonville, and Buffalo. Hopefully that's a sign of things to come.

    Long ball accuracy. Once a defense has to respect him, RT is going to lead us into the post season for many moons to come.

    He was late seeing it last year, and his body was not quick enough to evade..I'm hoping exp and proper weight training expedite the process.

    Could be, but I do know that if Ireland was going to trade our slot receiver, he sure should have drafted one. Our top 3 wide receivers are all better on the outside.

    You should factor in his lack of experience, compared to the other 4 he was kind of behind in that area.
    I thought he improved alot thru the season and in terms of experience, number of games played 2013/2014 could be viewed as his first season

    I think a good deal of the sophomore slump depends on how much of your game is "smoke and mirrors" vs. how much of it is actually due to your proficiency as an all around QB. The more traits that you have that can be schemed or taken away from you by defenses now that you have all of this tape and research, the more likely you will have a slump. I'm not going to rank who will improve the most, but from my humble viewpoint the player most likely to have a slump would be RG3. And I don't think it's necessarily from a strictly talent point of view, but also from the point of view that he didn't even play 17 games last season and suffered 2 serious injuries. RG3 gets another concussion or another torn lig/broken bone and we are going to have to bring that into our evaluation.

    Luck is the most slump proof as his game is so versatile that I don't see anything you can take from him that he won't pick up somewhere else. His game isnt based on any one particular dimensions its based on his knowledge of the game and able to exploit a defense many different ways.

    Tanny, has the largest up arrow due to what has already been said, he has the most to improve on. He also has the most unknowns because he hasn't been playing the position for that long. Sometimes I watch the talking heads and they don't even identify THill as an athletic QB or that dude was on pace to become a physician so he's no dummy. But honestly that's the way I like it. I like the Eli Manningish trajectory that Thill is taking. Nobody is checking for him. Hell...most don't even identify him as being drafted last year. Its always RG3, Wilson, Luck. Givem hell Tanny!

    I don't think Weeden has a dog in this fight. I dont even think Cleveland is even dedicated enough to him to trust him to let it fly and improve. Chud might opt to play it safe. I dont know.

    I disagree that our top 3 are better on the outside. I think Hartline and Wallace can play the slot very well.

    Those are fair points on weapons and role. I just thought Weeden looked lost a lot more often out there. Tannehill certainly had some struggles, but seemed to understand what was going on on the field, just missed the open guy on some plays.

    I'm not going to pretend to have the football knowledge that you have - but I watched every game for both teams last year and it seemed like Weeden could get confused and throw it right into a DB's lap fairly often. I wasn't overly impressed with his decision making and ability to read the field. I'm not saying he's Henne, but there were times when I got a similar feel to when Henne would struggle to pick up what a defense was doing and make good decisions.

    One of the national writers Tweeted before the draft - Weeden and Tannehill had similar stats, yet no one in Miami is looking to get a new QB and everyone around Cleveland expected them to bring in legitimate competition to start this year (Haslam even promised they would do so before the options all dried up.)

    That being said - taking Weeden out of Shurmur's system and into a system that seems to fit him perfectly with Chud and Norv Turner - I would expect Weeden to have a significant jump this year as well.

    It was a great draft for QB's so far. Those five are all going to be good ones. I do think after all is said and done Luck and Tannehill will be the best of this group. RG3 is great no doubt but he's going to have to avoid injury to keep being great. Russell Wilson has a stacked team around him and he's definitely going to be good for a long time but I think he's Doug Flutie good (Bills,Chargers).
    Not placing comparisons because I hate to do that but here goes.

    Luck=The greatness of John Elway
    Tannehill=Reminds me of Matt Ryan
    Wilson=Reminds me of Doug Flutie during his Buffalo/SD days
    Griffin=Vick, Cunningham
    Weeden= Carson Palmer right now

    I think if we want to see a significant jump this year these are the things that he has to improve on that stood out to me the most last year.

    #1. Stop staring down the receivers.
    Countless games I watched RT stare down his target and not look off the safety. He has to improve upon this and learn to move through his progression and anticipate if the receiver will be open more. Also, stop patting the ball. This just allows the defense to react to where its going to be thrown.

    #2. Better pocket presence.
    I felt like for some reason last year he couldnt feel the pressure in the pocket. He needs to get a better sense of whats going on in the pocket.

    #3. Work on the deep ball.
    There were multiple games last year where he would have hartline/fasano/whoever streaking down the field and he would overthrow them by a few yards. You would automatically be able to add AT LEAST 3-4 touchdowns that were missed this way. I think that this will come with better timing but he needs to improve on this (however it will be hard to overthrow wallace.)

    That being said, this guy has under 40 starts at QB under his belt. I think he is going to get consistently better with more playing time and more time to study film to pick up defensive tendencies. I am being optimistic but i think we will see a huge a jump from RT this year. I think the sky is the limit for this guy and the dolphins have proven this offseason that they are committed to surrounding him with talent to take the next step.

    Thoughts??

    1. I disagree with this. Mostly because the average fan has no idea where the QB is actually looking while watching the game live. You'd need the all-22 footage or be a pro or amateur scout. The footage we get during a game is not sufficient for telling where the QB is looking. You can only tell what side of the field he looking at, and that is all really. But he could easily be looking towards Hartline on down the right sideline or Bess coming across the middle towards the right without moving his head and you'd never know. That perception of him "locking on" is only compounded by the fact that he only 2 viable receivers last year. There was literally no reason to look at the receiver opposite of Hartline all year.

    2. I think this is another fan myth. Basically its easy to see a QB that can sense the pressure, Marino was probably the greatest at that ever, but with a rookie its hard to tell if they can't sense it or just haven't gotten used to the speed of the game that our pass blocking was poor and Tannehill was trying to hit one of two receivers who are poor at getting separation.

    3. Deep ball accuracy is just as much about the receiver as it is the QB. I guarantee with a Mike Wallace, that "issue" will magically disappear from Tanny's con side of the checklist.
