It's just something I take into account when I study players, I like my joints how I like my joints, nice and thick, not fragile..lol

Seriously, for me in such a violent game at this level, with so much inertia and mass involved, the joints and hips tell a lot, it's the closest to a predictor of injury, strength and work ethic that I can see just by looking..studying the genetics of the athletes body is an important part in projecting some movement, hitting impact, strength, and whether or not the player could possibly be more susceptible to injury.

Without looking at his reps, I can tell you that Jamar is a strong human being, I can tell you I don't trust Marcus lattimores lower body at the next level. cause i didn't trust them at the college level, I can speculate that Some teams may of dropped jordan poyer because of body related issues, that aaron maybin would bust, of course this is only my opinion, but it's part of how I evaluate players..

Dion Jordan's body has so much potential..

you'd think with as big a deal as they made out of the logo change they'd make sure everyone and their momma was wearing it.. though at the same time they probably had a lot of leftovers/hand-me-downs that they're just getting rid of on the try-out bodies. I suspect by training camp they'll all be uniform

He played 13 games in each 2011 and 2012. He had 230 carries in 2011, and the team used a rotation in 2012. I don't see where it is apparent he fought injuries and it appears you are jumping to conclusions. Also it seems rather illogical to me, being polite, to say the son of a strength coach would have abused his body weight lifting. If anyone would be doing it right, it's someone like this guy. He also majored in Exercise and Wellness. I'm surprised they have such a major but his bio says they do.

This is different from his run the ball effectively and control the line of scrimmage talk last season. I think it's an indication that he knows what's key to winning, but is very willing to tailor the gameplan to the team's strengths. Last season we had a rookie QB, two receivers, and an average receiving tight end coupled with Bush and Miller. Now we have three receivers, a new TE, and a second year QB along with backs that are good at catching passes.

Just to add to your point King, the other day I was listening to Sherman and he said something in a certain way that made me take notice, he said, "Ryan did very well for what we asked him to do"

Last year a fe w of us were speculating that Sherman was specifically training this kid from the pocket, which in theory goes against doing whatever it takes to win, but the way he said that statement made me feel last year was a training tool for a young Qb,mand the gameplan itself was catered towards his development..just a theory

It's why I chose you as my Sensai..

Seriously, all last year we kept speculating on that subject, I know I was pissed that he wasn't using the full skillset but maybe there were specific training methods involved, which absolutely blow me away..

Maybe there was. Maybe that's why the leadership council is gone.

I also wouldn't call it protecting Tannehill, more like training him.

Damn, yeah training is the right word, hmmm, yeah those leader boys got ousted in a big way..well, it bodes well for us this year, and lets remember, the dude was a thousand yard receiver 4 years ago..

I remember last year I kept asking the same exact question and noone ever touched the answer, and that was, someone tell me how these methods would look on paper,?.. It looked to me that he was being trained from the pocket, and I say that because we know how lethal the kid is on the run going to his left, and right, we also know that those plays were not used that much relative to the talents..

"It looks as though Sherman has strict orders for him to play from within the pocket" is a quote that I can remember saying.

*******I'm not saying the following theory happened. It is just a theory.***********

I believe from Day 1 of hiring Philbin, the plan was to get Tannehill. I also don't think the roster was evaluated to the necessary degree until training camp and that's why Philbin agreed to HardKnocks...all the extra footage would give them a better idea what they had. It soon became apparent that we weren't going to be playoff contenders based on the talent not being a good fit for Philbin's offense and defense. I think once that was decided, the #1 goal for the year was not to go to the Super Bowl, but to get Tannehill on the correct path of being a franchise QB and making moves to be able to stock up the team with players suited to the new systems. At this point, we traded Davis because he was good enough to get us a valuable pick and he was going to be up against a new deal that we had no interest of signing. Yes, it weakened the team last year, but again, I don't think the main goals were to win it all, because they knew they didn't have enough talent. I think they looked at this offseason as being the key. Ireland stockpiled picks and avoided early contract extensions to ensure we had the cash to be active. Once Garrard got hurt, they had to play Tannehill even earlier than they hoped, so they really limited his playbook. This is a fairly common practice for rookie QBs, but they did it a different way. Instead of limiting it to what Tanny could do well, they limited it to what he needed work on. They forced him to grow as a pocket passer, because he had all of 19 starts and was to be the future. For example, yes we lost the Houston game, but Tanny didn't have a lot of batted balls after that harsh lesson.

I don't think everyone on the team was on board with this however. I think, many senior players responded poorly to a team that wasn't about winning it all. I think many of those senior players are gone now.

By all rights we shouldn't have been as good as we were last year, in retrospect. But I think because of the foresight from the coaching and personnel staff, we are about to ascend this year beyond what many may think. I think that training for Tanny is going to pay off and pay off big. I think handicapping him with 2 pedestrian receivers will be the equivalent of a weight on the bat during practice swings. I believe the playbook will be opened wide. I believe we jump this year on offense. I believe our offense and defense will among the fastest in the league. I also think we'll continue the hyper paced practices from last year and see a lot more no huddle.

Basically we bit the bullet last year, to go big this year.....and so far its worked on paper. Now it only remains to be seen what happens on the field.

Also backs that up when Ireland said they were targeting Austin. Would have been pumped if we had got him but im down with Jordan. Ireland has helped Tanny this season giving him a great chance to improve. The one player im actually really happy about is Dion Sims. He's like having an extra Tackle when he's needed. Play action has just got better having Sims blocking if Tannehill goes downfield to Wallace.

    I'm pumped..

The point I like the most and how it translates to this year is a rookie Qb working with such a limited cupboard and learning the game in that setting, trying to fit the balls into tight spaces that limited athletes can go, all with minimal rac yardage, it does seem to bode well that we came out 7 and 9 with what was going on, how he was being developed, and the weapons at his disposal.

Agree. The moves with players on Defense will also help Tannehill. Im expecting turnovers. We flunked on getting them last season. The players we have on Defense all point to getting the ball back. Grimes, Taylor, Jordan, Ellerbe, Wheeler. All players who come with speed, youth and a good CV. Im expecting top 10 Defense. Not too many holes. Our front 7 will stop the run. They may not stop a big pass play but our chances have suddenly increased to make plays on the ball. Smith, Burnett, Dansby did squat getting the ball back. This Defense has potential to make plays. Something that has gone missing last few yrs. Then of course its up to our 2nd yr QB.

yeah I believe we're much better on defense on paper, I did not like Burnett or smiths game at all and Dansby was hurt a lot of the year..if we can get all 6 of our new guys were are improved speed and athleticism ten fold.

Tannehill opened last season against the Texans for his 20th ever start at College and Pro. He got the crap kicked out of him physically and mentally, then played pretty damn well the next week against the Raiduhs when we put up 35 pts.

The next week he injured his knee against the stinking jets and from Sep on played in a brace until mid December, when he took the brace off at halftime of the Jaguars game. The difference in his play was night and day. Instantly, you saw a much more comfortable player.

Tannehill was instantly able to make the most of his mobility, passing for 220 yards - often on rollouts - and running for 52 yards to help beat the Jaguars 24-3.

If you watched Tannehill's footwork during the games with the brace, you saw a QB who wasn't able to effectively step into his throws, which affected his accuracy. He was also having to stand in the pocket and wait for slow receivers to come open. This is why our WR corp was overhauled in the off season.

Also, per PFF, with our less than stellar OLine play, Tannehill typically had 2.4 seconds on average before the ball had to be out. Contrast that with fellow rookie, Wilson, who averaged 4.4 seconds in the pocket and a had much better WR and TE corp, but was also healthy and able to help extend plays and pocket time.

For the over throws Tannehill was often critized for, he was putting the ball down the field to a spot that his receivers - and only his receivers - could run under it or make a play on it. Unfortunately, Bess has/d no speed and Hartline, while faster than Bess and possessing smarts and decent hands, isn't a burner either. That shouldn't be the case with Wallace at WR this season...

Whichever direction they will go on O, I just hope they take advantage of Ryan's running ability. The kid can MOVE. He is fairly fast, a 4.5 40 guys, and his experience gives him a unique perspective of running with the ball. Roll outs, designed draw plays, stuff that we usually see teams kill US with.

Yes. When Joe Philbin was an 18 year old tight end at Worcester, receivers coach Ken O'Keefe was the head coach, and both Mike Sherman and Kirk Ferentz were assistant coaches.
